Hen weekends in houses work because they offer the space and facilities to do everything: get ready together without taking turns in front of one tiny mirror, enjoy a champagne breakfast without sideways glances from judgy hotel staff, blast your favourite music for the ultimate kitchen disco, or use the hot tub at 2 am. It’s your weekend, your space, your rules. No venue coordinators, no curfews, no other groups in adjacent rooms.
Our hen weekend houses sleep 16 to 30 or more guests with features that make hen weekends work: multiple bathrooms so everyone can get ready on time (ish), big kitchens for group cooking or catering, hot tubs for prosecco-fuelled soaking, outdoor spaces for garden parties, and enough comfortable bedrooms for everyone, no topping and tailing required.
Hen do accommodation ranges from contemporary barn conversions with sleek interiors to country houses with character, coastal properties near beaches to countryside estates with privacy. What they all have in common: picture-perfect settings for groups of women to celebrate, with practical layouts and facilities that make weekends flow smoothly.

When it comes to the setting for a hen weekend, there are a few non-negotiables according to our visitors. First thing’s first, space matters. Even when you’re 12 or more women, you need enough bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone to feel comfortable. You want shared social spaces: kitchens where eight people can cook together, dining tables big enough for everyone, cosy seating areas for wine-fuelled chats. You love the luxury extras like hot tubs, swimming pools, or being close to a spa. But as well as the function and location of the space, you care about the way it looks. Instagrammable locations, panoramic views, tasteful interiors.
Our most popular houses for hen parties are usually semi-rural properties near towns for restaurant and bar access. Our hens love having the option to walk or take a taxi to cocktail bars on Friday night, before retreating to the countryside on Saturday for recovery. Particularly sought after are our coastal locations (Devon, Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, Norfolk) for that timeless combination of beach walks paired with champagne brunches. As this group explained: “We had an incredible weekend for our hen do. The venue had multiple ovens should you wish to cook. There were plenty of fridges to stock beer and food, and the ice machine just topped it off – It was used constantly over the weekend! The venue was in a fantastic location and meant that our guests could take themselves off in the day for a walk around the area, before meeting back up to party in the pub Saturday night. The rooms were huge and modern, and everybody commented as they arrived at how amazing the place was. We will 100% be using this venue again.”
When the setting is this gorgeous, why not keep your activities at home? Many of our hens choose to hire private chefs who cook while you drink prosecco, cocktail-making classes, yoga or wellness sessions, spa days, wine tasting, afternoon tea, dance classes, and craft activities, all of which can take place from the comfort of your home for the weekend. The house becomes more than accommodation; it becomes a destination for the whole weekend of fun to unfold.
One group described their celebration perfectly: “A gorgeous venue with a stunning barn and beautiful gardens in a dreamy setting.” That combination makes hen weekends (and the photo montage) memorable. And with spaces this beautiful, why would you want to leave?

When I was faced with having to find a large house with a pool for a family celebration at relatively short notice, Edmund at Landed Houses came straight to my aid. He responded promptly to my email enquiries, even on a Sunday, putting me in direct contact with someone who managed a property that fitted my needs; the outcome being that a superb house, with everything I need, was secured within 24 hours of my first enquiry. Many thanks, Edmund, for making the task so straightforward. If you’re looking for that special house for a party or family gathering I can recommend Landed Houses as your first port of call.

At-house activities work beautifully, especially for larger hen parties. You save the trouble of carting everyone off in taxis or a minibus and save on the expense of transport as well.
Private chef experiences (costing £55 to £90 per person for three courses) are most popular in our booking requests. Basically, someone else cooks while you drink champagne and catch up, plus no restaurant coordination, travel, or bill splitting. Mobile spas bring therapists to the house for treatments including massages, facials, and manicures from around £40 to £80 per treatment.
Cocktail masterclasses with mobile bartenders (costing £45 to £65 per person for a two-hour session) are very popular and always start a night off with a bang. And the next morning, a yoga or wellness instructor could run a morning session for a very affordable £150 to £250 for the group to clear their heads.
If you’re a creative bunch, craft activities like flower crown workshops, pottery painting, or perfume making are always a hit, costing just £35 to £60 per person. We also see a lot of life drawing classes. To hire a model and an instructor you’re looking at around £400 to £600 for the group.
These at-house options avoid complicated logistics while creating memorable shared experiences. As one group celebrating noted about their catered meal: “We had a beautiful meal cooked and served for us. The team were really friendly but also very unobtrusive and the food was outstanding.”
No. Hen-specific pricing doesn’t exist. The same house costs the same whether hosting a hen party, family reunion, or milestone birthday.
It might feel like hen-friendly properties cost more because hen groups often self-select toward prettier properties that photograph well, which tend to cost more. A beautiful Cotswolds stone house or Norfolk coastal property commands premium pricing regardless of who books it.
Hen groups often have higher per-person budgets than other groups. This is because they are usually smaller groups and members fall within the 25 to 40 age range, who tend to be well-paid professionals without dependents. We’ve noticed over the years that hen groups tend to choose properties at the higher end of regional price ranges, looking for that little something special. If you’re working to a strict budget, you’ll find wonderful options in Shropshire, the Forest of Dean, rural Wales, and the East Midlands at around 30 to 40% less than in the Cotswolds or in coastal locations.
Almost all properties welcome decorations including balloons, bunting, table decorations, banners, LED fairy lights, candles (although do check and do follow safety advice), basically any temporary decorations that don’t require permanent fixings. Your hosts might have a problem with anything requiring nails, screws, or adhesive because of potential damage to walls. You also won’t be the most popular guest if your celebrations involve excessive glitter or confetti cannons as they’re near impossible to fully clear up. On the “no” list are smoke machines (they’ll set off the fire alarms), fireworks (obvious), and anything flammable near open fires.
Most properties simply ask that you remove decorations before you leave, although your cleaning team will handle reasonable leftovers.
Themed weekends (decades parties, festival theme, spa weekends, Great Gatsby, garden party, winter wonderland) work brilliantly. They give the event a real sense of occasion and break the ice if the group doesn’t know each other very well.
Our best advice when it comes to bringing decorations and having a theme is to talk to your property owners. Maybe they’ve got the best set of wooden kegs tucked away somewhere for your pirate theme. Or a brilliant banner left behind by another group. And you’ll be able to get on the same page in terms of expectations around what you want to bring and how you’ll leave the property.
For hens who want a big night out on the town, we recommend properties within a 15-minute taxi ride of towns to perfectly balance countryside charm with evening accessibility. Some of the best options for this are: Bath (surrounding villages, 10 to 15 min to city centre), Brighton/Lewes area (Sussex countryside, 20 to 30 min to Brighton’s nightlife), York (North Yorkshire properties), Exeter/Totnes area (Devon countryside), Cheltenham/Cirencester (Cotswolds properties near spa towns), Norwich (Norfolk countryside, 20 to 30 min to Norwich), and Edinburgh’s surrounds. Coastal properties often sit near seaside towns with nightlife too: Padstow, Salcombe, Whitstable, St Andrews.
We love a combination weekend because it gives everyone the opportunity to have a little adventure and let off some steam before retiring to the house to chill and chat. It always makes for great stories to share over the bacon butties the next morning as well. These locations let you combine countryside days (walks, at-house activities, cooking together) with the option to head to some proper bars and restaurants when night falls.
