Crogen Hall is a beautiful old country house that dates back to the 13th century. It is located on the banks of the River Dee in the 2,500-acre Crogen Estate. The estate has its own woods, moors, and mountainside, which are both beautiful and private. The two properties that make up the accommodation are well thought out. The Coach House sleeps 17 people, and the Crogen Wing/Hall sleeps 14 people. A large lawn separates them.

There are nine bedrooms and six bathrooms in the Coach House. There are also several reception rooms, such as a big kitchen with an Aga, a drawing room with open fires, and a games room for entertaining. Crogen Wing/Hall has seven bedrooms and six bathrooms in a more private setting, which gives you more privacy when you need it.

The estate is very flexible and has a lot of space for both business and personal use, including weddings. The inside spaces mix old-world charm with modern comfort, and the grounds offer many chances for outdoor activities and events.

Great care has been taken throughout the property to preserve original features while also providing all modern comforts. The two separate properties work well together to offer many options for different group sizes and setups while maintaining the estate’s historic charm.

Location and Things to Do

The estate is situated about 4 hours’ drive from Central London and 2 hours from Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool. The nearest train station is Ruabon/Chirk, approximately 40 minutes away, or Chester station, about an hour’s drive. The estate offers easy access to a variety of local attractions, including Portmeirion Village and Snowdonia National Park, and is known for being a hub for outdoor activities such as white-water rafting and hiking.

House Fact

There has been a house at Crogen since the 1300s and the estate was bought by Henry Robertson in 1864. Henry was a civil engineer, entrepreneur, industrialist and politician, who also built Palé Hall nearby. In 1889, Queen Victoria came to stay with the Robertsons, who still own the estate, and she said “We have arrived in paradise.”

Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“Crogen (pronounced Crog to rhyme with Frog – Crog-‘n) really was built for country sport, and the shoot is famous for its high-quality. The hospitality of the estate is top-notch, with every comfort thought of.”

Exceptional events venue, also gorgeous with the nicest of hosts.

Had a lovely relaxing 3 night stay in the Lodge. It was really well equipped and very comfortable. The owner went out of her way to come down and greet us on arrival. The location is ideal if you want a nice serene setting with access to all the lovely North Wales countryside on your doorstep. Dog friendly although there isnt a secure garden as such so need to be kept on a lead outside the Lodge.

Fab stay is a beautiful location for our group that stayed in the Coach House, the Annex and the Lodge. Lovely and warm, comfy beds and plenty of space. Enjoyed climbing Snowdon, canoeing on the Llangollen Canal, swimming in Lake Bala and tennis at the house.
