Gunthorpe Hall stands out as a beautiful, inviting country house in North Norfolk, carefully planned to host large gatherings and celebrations all under one roof.

The Main Hall and Wing House can be enjoyed separately or together, depending on the size of your gathering. Together, they create a wonderfully sociable retreat with space to gather, dine, celebrate and disappear for a moment of peace when needed.

The Main Hall can hold up to forty-one people in twelve large bedrooms. There are two en-suite rooms and four other bathrooms or showers that everyone else can comfortably use.

The Wing House is connected to the Georgian wing of the main house, but it has its own entrance and can sleep eleven people in four bedrooms. There is a bedroom on the ground floor with a shower room and toilet nearby, as well as a shared bathroom and two extra toilets.

The Wing House is dog-friendly and is a great place for extra guests or for some of the group to stay in a quieter area.

Gunthorpe Hall was made for entertaining. From relaxed breakfasts around the kitchen table to long, laughter-filled dinners, the house works beautifully for both self-catering stays and catered occasions, whether that means grazing feasts, celebratory suppers or something a little more formal – the Dining Room can seat up to a maximum of 68.

Birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, weddings, house parties, or simply an excuse to gather, this is a house that rises beautifully to the occasion. Outside, a purpose-built brick barbecue and generous seating for 50+ guests invite long lunches and golden-hour suppers, while the lake offers wild swims, fishing, and quiet moments beside the water. Twenty-five acres of Norfolk countryside unfold around you, inviting unhurried walks and fresh-air wandering.

There are lawns for croquet and badminton, peaceful corners for reading beneath big skies, and cosy fireside spaces to retreat to indoors. A full-size billiards table awaits friendly competition, while for those wanting a little extra theatre to their stay, we can connect you with trusted local providers offering everything from mobile hot tubs and saunas to piano music with cocktails, archery, axe throwing, clay shooting, and treasure hunts.

House Fact

In 1789, Sir John Soane designed a Palladian-inspired gentleman’s residence to replace a Tudor Mansion. See History Page of our website to read more.

Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“I’ve a soft spot for any house that comes with a Sir John Soane connection, and Gunthorpe has one – he had a hand in the 1789 rebuild. The Library/Billiard Room with its full-size table is the room I’d head for first, and there’s a private lake for fishing or a brave swim. Marie and Jeremy run it for proper Edwardian-style house party weekends.”

We recently hired out the picturesque Gunthorpe Hall for our offices corporate retreat / summer party for an entire weekend. Having not been able to visit the property first, Marie & Toni were a godsend in helping us navigate how to make the best use of the space and reccommending local vendors / suppliers for our weekend. Such a beautiful location and can’t recommend enough. Thank you Toni & Marie ! Hope to be back soon 🙂

I had an absolutely WONDERFUL stay at Gunthorpe Hall – the house and grounds is absolutely stunning, and the team who run the home are lovely. They were so accommodating to our needs while not being too hands on, allowing us to feel like we had the entire home to ourselves. We were there to celebrate my 40th birthday, and we had the perfect time. I would highly recommend!

We recently held our wedding at Gunthorpe Hall. I cannot recommend this venue enough for weddings, family get togethers or just a good old party. The house is stunning, the grounds are beautiful and the team of staff are amazing. They made our weekend. We hired the house for the whole weekend and chose to do most of the wedding prep and wedding day ourselves however the team are on hand to help as much or as little as you want them to. They offer lots of different services and can recommend and organise different vendors for you. I am so glad I chose Gunthorpe Hall to get married at and it will forever hold a special day in my heart and I really hope we return one day to visit and spend another fabulous weekend there. This is a 10/10 venue
