There’s a particular feeling when you walk into somewhere genuinely grand. The entrance hall that takes your breath away. The staircase that belongs in a music video. The sense that something important should happen here. Or already did. That’s what mansions do; they make occasions feel special.
Our mansion house rental collection spans stately homes with centuries of history, Georgian manors with formal gardens, and contemporary estates with pools and spa facilities. These aren’t just big houses; they’re properties with ballrooms, orangeries, libraries panelled in oak, and drawing rooms that open onto terraces with lush views.
Most luxury mansions for hire sleep 20 to 60 or more guests and can host 80 to 150 or more for events. You’ll find commercial kitchens where catering teams can get cracking, landscaped grounds for photos and outdoor celebrations, and multiple reception rooms so events flow naturally. The kind of scale and grandeur that hotels try to replicate but never quite manage.
Filter by dates, region, and group size to find available mansions.
Each mansion shows capacity, bedrooms, bathrooms, key features, and what makes it special.

Mansions sit somewhere between substantial country houses and stately homes. These properties attract groups wanting grandeur and luxury without heritage property formality, space without staff requirements, and impressive settings without Downton Abbey expectations. These are serious houses, most have 8 to 12 bedrooms, sleeping 16 to 24 or more guests, with decent-sized grounds. But crucially, and unlike most stately homes, they are built or renovated for modern luxury rather than historical preservation.
What marks out your typical mansion? Substantial square-footage (4,000 to 10,000 or more sq ft living space), high-quality contemporary or period-sympathetic finishes, extensive grounds with mature landscaping, multiple reception rooms, and facilities scaled for entertaining. Many are Victorian or Edwardian industrialists’ country seats, extensively renovated Georgian manor houses, or contemporary luxury builds in the style of regal period architecture.
Mansions are where modern amenities meet period grandeur. Expect updated kitchens with commercial-grade equipment, bathrooms with powerful showers and underfloor heating, entertainment systems, powerful Wi-Fi, and climate control. Grounds typically include manicured lawns and gardens, parking for 8 to 12 cars, outdoor entertaining areas, and features like tennis courts, pools, or hot tubs.
Unlike stately homes where you’re custodians of history, mansions let you actually live without worrying about smashing a priceless antique to smithereens. In other words, you can rent a mansion for a party. As one group noted about their experience: “It’s fair to say we had the best weekend away since the pandemic. The garden was amazing and scenic. We sat outside each day to have a few drinks and play a bit of football in the sunshine. We also made use of the big BBQ which was great!
All the rooms were very comfy and cosy and the kitchen gave us everything we needed to cook large meals for us all. Finally, we had great fun using the table tennis and football table that kept us occupied for much of the evenings.
Overall, I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a relaxing weekend away with friends or family.”

When I was faced with having to find a large house with a pool for a family celebration at relatively short notice, Edmund at Landed Houses came straight to my aid. He responded promptly to my email enquiries, even on a Sunday, putting me in direct contact with someone who managed a property that fitted my needs; the outcome being that a superb house, with everything I need, was secured within 24 hours of my first enquiry. Many thanks, Edmund, for making the task so straightforward. If you’re looking for that special house for a party or family gathering I can recommend Landed Houses as your first port of call.

Over 16 years of bookings, we’ve learnt that the main difference between mansion rentals and stately homes is expectations. Stately homes have historical significance and heritage status; they’re often Grade I/II listed buildings with original features and antiques throughout. This naturally calls for a more formal atmosphere and a level of decorum to preserve a precious slice of history. There are often staff and estate managers to keep things in check. With a mansion, you get all the grandeur, all the space, minus the constraints. It’s where modern luxury meets impressive facades, where original features are updated for today’s level of comfort. Gone is the formal atmosphere. Wave bye-bye to the fear of spilling coffee on an antique tablecloth once used by Queen Victoria.
Our practical advice? If your group values history and is comfortable with formality and taking great care of your surroundings, a stately home is a great choice. It can add a real sense of occasion to your milestone celebration or event, especially if you’re surprising the history buff in your life.
However, if you want space and grandeur with contemporary comfort, you’re a group with kids or clumsy people, or you just prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, a mansion might be a better fit. Mansions work brilliantly for bigger groups, families and those who want to let their hair down a bit as well as those who can’t live without a power shower and by-the-bed phone charging.
For mansion house rental, weekend rates come to between £6,000 to £12,000 for houses sleeping 16 to 20 guests. Luxury mansions reach £12,000 to £18,000 or more if they’re in premium locations. If you break that down, you’re looking at around £330 to £665 per person when sharing with 18 people in a mid-range mansion, going up to £1,000 or more for a weekend in a luxury property. Weekly rates are usually around four to five times the cost of a weekend.
If you’re flexible on location, you’ll notice regional variations. Scottish estates offer remarkable value (paying £5,000 to £9,000 for similar properties compared to £10,000 to £15,000 in the Cotswolds). When compared to stately homes, mansions charge around 20 to 40% less while offering superior modern facilities. There’s a real premium on that heritage feel.
Depending on your needs and budget, there’s a mansion house to suit your group’s requirements. If you aren’t bothered by stately homes, can remain flexible on location, and occupy every bed in the house, you’re likely to find the best possible deal.
Most luxury mansions offer the following as standard: cinema/media rooms with projection and premium sound, games rooms (pool, table tennis, often more), hot tubs or spa facilities, swimming pools (increasingly common), high-end kitchen equipment, premium entertainment systems, and fast Wi-Fi throughout the property. Head outdoors and you’ll likely find tennis courts, putting greens, outdoor kitchens/pizza ovens, fire pits, and landscaped gardens with multiple entertaining spaces. Some mansions include housekeeping, many can arrange private chefs or catering, and concierge services for activity booking.
Most mansion properties actively welcome events including milestone birthdays, anniversaries, small weddings (20 to 60 guests), hen or stag parties, and corporate retreats. Many will help you with event setup support, furniture/table provision, a list of approved caterers and suppliers, parking for event guests, and spaces suitable for marquees or outdoor events.
Make sure to have a chat with your host before you book. Some properties include the cost of hosting an event in your rental fee, others charge a £500 to £2,000 supplement depending on the scale of the event.
Mansions designed for modern luxury generally handle events more flexibly than heritage stately homes with preservation concerns. The best thing to do is get chatting to your host so that you can budget and plan accordingly.
