Gilmerton House

Gilmerton House is an absolutely stunning place. We had it for our wedding. Firstly, the rooms all have their own character, but they’re all extremely comfortable, spacious, and luxurious, including the two cottages. There are a few different areas to the house, including living spaces inside and the lawn, the beautiful Laundry house, and the rest of the grounds, so you can have a large group of people around and it doesn’t feel crowded. In spring, the gardens are really lovely and peaceful.

In particular, I’d like to thank Graham, who manages the house, for being incredibly helpful and friendly throughout the build-up to the wedding, and on the weekend. He’s a fantastic person to deal with and was a really big part of what made our weekend such a success.

I was thrilled to be invited to a birthday celebration at Gilmerton and it totally lived up to expectations. The team do everything possible to tailor experiences to guests’ requirements. Our group did foraging, a cooking demonstration (which we later had for lunch), a falconry demonstration, a bit of golf on the driving range and plenty of time for local walks. The dinners were outstanding, including a bbq in the beautiful refurbished laundry and being piped into dinner in the Music room. Whiskey followed, of course! There are multiple sitting rooms and a gorgeous snug filled with old books to explore. Our bedroom had a very comfortable bed and gigantic bathroom. I must also mention the bedlinens which were so comfortable. Thanks to Graham and all the staff for whom nothing was too much trouble.

Beautiful and truly unique venue for any occasion. House has a lot of history and condition is still superb. Stunning garden behing the house and space for marquee for events. Fantastic and friendly staff.

We had the most incredible stay at Gilmerton House for my sister’s hen weekend and honestly couldn’t have asked for anything better! From the very start, Graham’s communication was next level, he was always available, helpful, and made everything so easy to organise, which took all the stress out of planning for us. Graham was also on hand throughout the weekend itself to make sure we had everything we needed, which made such a difference and really added to the experience. He even shared a lovely 5k running route for the runners in our group, such a thoughtful touch that didn’t go unnoticed.

The house itself is absolutely outstanding. We’ve stayed in several large group properties over the years, but Gilmerton House is on another level entirely. The standard throughout is exceptional, every room felt thoughtfully designed, comfortable, and versatile for a big group celebration. The attention to detail in the house is just beautiful. Everything is so stylish, and the interior design is exquisite. You can tell so much care has gone into every space. The new garden rooms were fabulous and such a perfect option for anyone who wanted a little step away from the hustle and bustle while still being part of the weekend.

Unlike many houses of this age and size, heating was absolutely not an issue. The house was warm and comfortable throughout, and the open fires being lit and tended to across the weekend made it feel extra special and welcoming.

As foodies, the kitchen is always an important factor. The beautiful kitchen was brilliantly equipped with plenty of glassware, crockery, and everything we needed, which made hosting meals and drinks together effortless. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. The whole place just oozes hospitality, warmth, and quality.

It was the perfect setting for such a special weekend and created memories we’ll all treasure. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Gilmerton House and are looking for an excuse to return!

Phenomenal property in the heart of East Lothian, offering a high end experience on an exclusive use basis. Gilmerton House is exceptional and will have particular appeal to high end golf groups who are looking for a unique experience. Given it’s central location with easy access to some of Scotland’s finest links courses, Gilmerton offers a great opportunity for golfing group’s of couples, men or women to enjoy a luxurious private residence, with superb dining, a private driving range and 12 very well appointed bedrooms to choose from. I personally stayed at Gilmerton a few weeks ago and I cannot say enough good things about the experience!

This place is absolutely amazing. Although I didn’t personally stay there, we used the property as a filming location for an American TV show, and our cast members stayed on site for a full week. From start to finish, the experience was incredible.

From management to the staff, everyone was professional, attentive, and genuinely helpful. A special thank you to Graham, the manager, who went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly for our production. The service was top tier. The food deserves a special mention—everything was excellent and consistently high quality. At one point, we needed a local Piper, and the staff made it happen without hesitation, which truly shows their level of care and professionalism.

The property itself is stunning. It’s officially a house, but it truly feels like a castle. The grounds are beautiful, with plenty of green outdoor spaces—perfect for filming, events, weddings, parties, or private stays.

I highly recommend Gilmerton House to anyone visiting or working in the area, especially for productions or special events. This place is truly one of a kind.

If you’re looking for a truly special venue, that combines traditional Scottish charm with modern, luxury touches – Gilmerton House is the one. As soon as we got engaged, it was top of our list, and the moment we visited the house, we knew it was our dream venue. The house itself is so beautiful, set in incredible, well-kept grounds, and it’s even more gorgeous in person. It has a real wow factor and we feel so lucky that it will forever be our special place.

The house has been decorated with such care and attention to detail, retaining original elements and artwork, while incorporating modern touches that give it more of a boutique hotel vibe. It’s an incredible, spacious house, yet still feels so relaxed and many of our guests remarked that they immediately felt at home – and didn’t want to leave! All of the bedrooms are so lovely, bright and spacious, each with its own dedicated bathroom. The upstairs drawing room is also the perfect Bridal Suite space with flattering, natural light and lots of room to breathe.

The team at Gilmerton House, particularly Graham, were a joy to work with from the get go. Graham was so helpful throughout the process – so relaxed, easygoing and patient with our many emails and questions! He was so helpful, professional and attentive throughout the wedding weekend, but in a very relaxed and unobtrusive way. He’s always working on improvements for the house, including the lovely new bathrooms adjacent to the Laundry House, and you can tell he truly cares about the house and its guests. He also made lots of great suggestions for our day – including having our piper play us into the Music Room for our ceremony, which was so atmospheric and our guests absolutely loved it. The team also have a great list of supplier recommendations, which was really helpful. We knew that they’d only recommend the best of the best, and we were so happy with all the recommended suppliers we worked with on the day – including the amazing band and piper.

We loved that there were so many options for ceremony spaces, both indoor and outdoor. We had planned to utilise as many areas as we could, and ended up holding our ceremony in the wood-panelled Music Room which was just magical. We then used the newly renovated Laundry House for our dinner and dancing. It’s a wonderful blank canvas space, but still very tastefully decorated, so it doesn’t need much to make it look beautiful. We loved that we could really make it our own – and, as Graham told us on our first visit, no two weddings at Gilmerton House are the same, which is something we were really drawn to. So many venues just host wedding after wedding, but we loved that Gilmerton House isn’t actually a wedding venue per se, they host so many different occasions all year round, so we could really do something special and unique.

It was so great to have the venue for the full weekend, so our guests could fully relax and explore – on the Sunday we had a delicious BBQ with tables on the lawn, then in the evening some guests just relaxed and chatted in the drawing room, others played billiards, then some of us headed to the driving range at sunset which was the perfect way to round out the weekend.

The venue is the most important decision in wedding planning, and we couldn’t have asked for more from Gilmerton House. Every time we visited, we loved it more than the last, and I can’t count how many guests were singing its praises. As soon as we left, we were discussing how and when we could go back! We would wholeheartedly recommend Gilmerton House for any special occasion – it’s nothing short of perfect.

We hosted friends and family for our wedding celebration at Gilmerton House in April. It genuinely could not have been a better experience. Not only is the house absolutely stunning (with so many beautiful spaces for photos, we only scratched the surface!), but it’s also functionally and comfortably furnished and fit with amenities.

We had around 80 guests, and were able to use the Laundry House for dinner and dancing. The venue is also dog-friendly, and our dogs loved all the walking trails through the property!

Gilmerton House also works with Edinburgh Catering Company, who kept us very well fed. Absolutely delicious food and wonderful staff.

We hosted our wedding at Gilmerton House during summer 2024. The entire experience from first contact through to the wedding weekend was without fault. Graham was a joy to communicate with and was always prompt and helpful in his responses. And Suzy was the perfect presence in the house whilst we were there. The house and grounds are kept in immaculate condition with the house an equal balance of warm and welcoming alongside its grandeur and historicity. Once we experienced the house on our first tour we couldn’t imagine hosting our wedding anywhere else. The gardens, dining room and drawing rooms were the perfect backdrop to our intimate family wedding. The house will always hold very special memories to us. We would wholeheartedly recommend Gilmerton House to anyone looking to host any event in the most luxurious but also warm and welcoming surroundings. I booked Gilmerton House for a weekend celebration with family and friends hoping it was going to be a fantastic venue and location. The property and its grounds passed all expectations, we had truly one of the best weekends. Everything you could possibly need is at the house and the various activities on offer were amazing. Throughout the process the estate manager, Graham, was incredibly helpful with recommendations and was always available if we needed him but, we were left to enjoy the venue as if it was our own home. Would highly recommend a stay there and I hope to return in the future! Thankyou.

We were lucky enough to stay at Gilmerton House for three nights for our son and daughter in law’s wedding reception. The elegant house is tastefully decorated/furnished whilst managing to be equally homely and relaxing. Both the house and reception areas were perfect venues for the smaller and larger celebrations. The perfect venue to celebrate such a special occasion.

A couple of weeks back, I arranged for a group of 25 people to go to Gilmerton House and play the BBC gameshow “the Traitors” and it certainly did not disappoint. The estate was beyond perfect. From the stunning lawn to the woodlands, we had plenty of space to get creative for games/challenges throughout the day. Th house itself was faultless. A roaring fire on entrance, luxurious bedrooms and a dining room full of character. The team at Gilmerton were so helpful and welcoming, nothing was a problem.

I can’t speak highly enough of this place. Can’t wait to return!

We had the most amazing stay! The house is absolutely beautiful and full of historical character. Staying there is extremely comfortable with great heating for the cold Scottish weather and all the mod cons you would need whilst maintaining the feel of a period house. Food was outstanding by the Edinburgh Catering Company and very plentiful! The organised activities we did were excellent, especially the clay shooting and foraging. We also really enjoyed the visit to the National Flight Museum next door as well as many local walks. Overall, a very memorable family holiday, managed perfectly by Graham and his team and we will definitely be back again.

My family and friends have just spent the most amazing few days at Gilmerton House. The house is steeped in history and just oozes decadence with its tasteful decor and touches of luxury throughout. We were celebrating my 60th Birthday so with the organisational skills of my niece and meticulous attention to detail of The Edinburgh Catering Company I was treated like a Queen at every turn.

From being piped in through the beautiful oak doors to being greeted with a glass of fizz, I felt the weight of my years melt away with the warmth of love from friends and family as warm as the roaring fire directly in front of the main door. I have to say that the cosiness of this massive house cannot be underestimated. I lost count of the number of bedrooms but suffice to say that each guest had a uniqueness to their bed chamber that ensured there were no family squabbles.

I know that the house will probably be used for many different occasions but I really got the sense that with the team behind it, anything is possible. For example, there was and apres ski party in the music room the night before my birthday with the most delicious alpine treats – who knew that tartiflette with a side of cote de boeuf would be my new favourite combination. The next morning we had a relaxed family breakfast followed by yoga with Louisa from Humming Tree Yoga which was so special, however, no birthday is complete without cake which was served alongside afternoon tea in the beautiful lounge with the grand piano. The exquisite, formal Birthday Dinner was served later that evening with everyone ooing and ahhing at the delicious flavours throughout meal. At some point there may have been balls struck on the driving range or in the billiard room, I was too busy quaffing birthday champagne to notice.

Post Gilmerton blues have definitely set in but I have the fabulous memories created in such a memorable location to last me a lifetime……. or until my next visit. To everyone at Gilmerton………Thank You x

Attending for a 60th birthday party we were immediately blown away by the grandeur of the house and its surroundings. Add to this the beautiful food and drinks excellently provided and served by the wonderful Edinburgh Catering Company which all combined resulted in such a fantastic time had by all.

We have just celebrated my auntie’s 60th birthday at Gilmerton and it was the perfect spot. A truly stunning venue and we all felt like royalty calling it our own for a few days.

If you are looking for a wedding venue, Gilmerton House is your answer. Everything about Gilmerton is beyond perfection. We held a four day wedding extravaganza at Gilmerton in July 2024 for 25 of our closest family and friends and we had the best time of our lives. The home and grounds are immaculate and the accommodations are the most luxurious we have ever been in. Beyond the space, Gilmerton has the best team in the business. Graham and Suzy were there for everything we needed and went above and beyond making our time so special. We recently held my daughter’s wedding at Gilmerton House and had 22 guests stay at this magnificent facility for three nights. As beautiful and grand as Gilmerton appears online, it does not compare to the exceptional experience of staying there. Each room has its own personality and charm. The house is expertly managed by Graham and Susie, who are beyond accommodating. Whether it was the firewood stacked and ready in the patio fire pit or golf balls arranged on the front lawn driving range, everything was ready for our guests to enjoy. Susie was always on site and even made eggs to order for our guests. When it became too windy for some outdoor events, the Laundry House provided a perfect setting for meals and dancing. Excellent accommodation. Truly I would have to say one of the best places I have stayed. Very close to some of the worlds best golf courses; added to the catering at the House – meant for a memorable stay.

Gilmerton House is an excellent choice for whatever the occasion. Nice and friendly staff (including the owner’s dog), great facilities and rooms. Can highly recommend.

The location is excellent for those partaking in Scotland’s Golf Coast road experience. Numerous high quality courses within 15 minutes drive. Within the grounds there is a driving range for those sneaky players who can’t wait to get some practice in before heading to the course.

Edinburgh University, Centre for Medical Informatics, held a 2 day meeting/conference with overnight stay at Gilmerton House. The house and grounds are magnificent. With beautiful rooms and bedrooms, decorated to the very highest of standards, with in keeping to this wonderful old historic building. The staff are very welcoming and professional. Our requests were handled without any problem. Our thanks to Graham and Suzy who made sure our event ran smoothly. Outside catering was sourced on the recommendation of Graham, we used The Edinburgh Catering Company, who were superb. The house is situated in East Lothian, just outside Edinburgh, so you do have to travel but definitely well worth it! This would be a fantastic venue for entertaining clients or get away meetings!

Gilmerton House is an absolutely beautiful venue for any event. The house is stunning, each bedroom carefully curated for a luxurious stay. It feels like a family home rather than a hotel, giving guests the ability to use all the shared areas as their own. It’s definitely a step above a classic Scottish country home, it has been renovated to be incredibly comfortable and warm (with a group of Italians, this was a must!). We were lucky enough to be there for a sunny weekend in June and were able to make the most of the gorgeous grounds, use the golf driving range and outdoor games.

The Laundry House space is perfect for a celebration – it gave us everything we needed. Thank you to everyone at Gilmerton House for making it an incredible weekend.

In October 2023 I had the pleasure of hosting my closest family and friends for 1 full week at Gilmerton and it was nothing short of outstanding. The whole experience was filled of a lifetime of memories. The lead up, the planning with Graham was a joy. Over the course of the months leading up to it Graham was on hand to answer questions and give advice along the way. For that reason alone I would recommend Gilmerton.

During the week itself we were supported with the housekeeper Karen, who is so welcoming and lovely and the wonderful Ali who was there for all our various needs and questions. We also met some of the extended family who were very welcoming too.

As a family we love to cook, sing, play games, go for walks and in general just be together and laugh and Gilmerton allowed us all to do that and also have our own space when needed. There are so many spaces from lounges, billiards room, mini dance hall and corridors and rooms for miles! Every bedroom is unique and you just feel like home it is so comfortable. The outside space is just one big playground from golf, playing ball games, stunning walks and runs and glorious nature all around. Also not forgetting the surrounding areas. So many beautiful places to visit from Gullane, North Berwick to some little beaches which are stunning in all sorts of weather.

The Reception halls allow for dining and the ability to have evenings round the fires and piano. We had many days & nights of just enjoying the surroundings and relaxing and then 2 of the nights we hosted a couple of parties to celebrate my 50th birthday. The first night being a murder mystery, which was amazing. The setting, the plot line and all the guests loved it and the backdrop of Gilmerton was PERFECT!! I would recommend this type of party/activity.

Then on the 2nd night we hosted a black tie dinner, again the facilities are incredible for these types of parties. We began our evening with canapés in the reception room and lounge with the piano. It was catered and staffed by Edinburgh Catering company , which I would highly recommend. Douglas and team were so helpful and thoughtful while planning the evening and they did not disappoint on the evening. The food was sublime and all the guests were raving about it.

That evening we set up in the Laundry and again another outstanding space at Gilmerton for a party. We truly enjoyed decorating it and it was the perfect place to dine, chat, laugh , dance and celebrate a milestone moment in my life. We also used the space to host some sound baths for all our guests and it was perfect.

I would highly recommend Gilmerton to anyone who is looking for an intimate, stunning escape from the day to day in a place that is drenched in history and beauty. It was the perfect way to reign in the next decade. I am now figuring out when we can all go back for another adventure & special time together.

We held our wedding ceremony and reception at Gilmerton House, and also spent the entire weekend there with our closest family members. The place is breathtakingly beautiful! We felt like we were in a different world! Many of our guests complemented the beautiful grounds and the house itself.

We always knew we wanted somewhere secluded, peaceful and private for our wedding day – and we couldn’t have found a more perfect place.

The staff were amazing, especially Graham. Excellent communication from the minute we enquired about visiting the place as a potential wedding venue. Someone was always on site should we need any help over the weekend but they were also never in our way, again just what we wanted for the pre & post wedding celebrations. On the wedding day itself they even help my wedding planner set up the ceremony area!

Gilmerton is a hidden delight nestled in the heart of beautiful East Lothian, yet highly accessible to historic Edinburgh and its associated national and international travel hubs with Edinburgh Airport under 45 mins away by road. To stay at Gilmerton is to step inside history itself, yet lose nothing in the way of modern convenience or luxury, with beautifully fitted accommodation, reception and lounge spaces. Outdoors, the grounds offer an immaculately maintained curated expanse to rest and unwind in – complete with croquet, golf and winding trails. We had a wonderful restful week at the house as a group of friends, exploring and enjoying the surrounds, warmly hosted by Graham and his team. A stunning house in an ideal location just a short idyllic drive out of the bustle of Edinburgh. Only 10 minutes from Derm station and not far from local beaches, café and eateries if you fancy popping out. If you don’t, you’ve got everything you need on site including golf, croquet, pool table, ping pong table, places to run and walk, fire pit and outside seating area, BBQ, several rooms to dine in and a grand piano to boot. Enjoyed a fantastic nights sleep in a very comfy four poster bed as well as a luxurious soak in a roll top bathtub. What’s more the staff are incredibly kind. Memorable five star stay. A wonderful location for our friend’s Golden Wedding party. We were warmly welcomed and looked after by an efficient, organised and mostly unseen staff. The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious, with everything we needed to hand. There wasn’t much time to explore the grounds but they were beautiful too, and well maintained. My remaining impression is that of feeling at home!

Well what can I say other than absolutely fantastic experience at Gilmerton . We had the house for long weekend whilst daughter was getting married . Graham and staff at Gilmerton were first class and couldn’t speak highly enough of them and how welcome they made everybody feel . The best experience. We felt completely immersed in Scotland and it’s heritage whilst staying at Gilmerton House. A fabulous destination for a wedding, function, work or family gathering.

Went on a CEO retreat here with a group of about 20. The grounds fit us all and gave us a very memorable experience. The staff was amazing and cooked us some amazing meals. The grounds were great for a walk, some golf and just a great time to be outside. If you have a big group I would definitely recommend staying here.

We had the pleasure of having our destination wedding at The Gilmerton House in September of 2022. I cannot express enough how ecstatic we are with how things went. Stephen and Graham were the most excellent hosts that anyone could ask for. We felt like kings and queens for a week, and that’s without even getting into how lovely the grounds and the house were.

We were treated with amazing hospitality from start-to-finish, and even though there weren’t any difficulties, if there would have been I am positive they would’ve been resolved without any issue whatsoever.

The rooms were immaculate, the bathrooms were divine, and the staff on site couldn’t have been more pleasant. I would run out of accolades to give if I were to keep describing our time there. I know that we will look back fondly at our week at The Gilmerton House forever, and I couldn’t be more thankful that everyone there helped make our week, and especially our wedding day, so special.

Everyone was incredibly accommodating, even for a group of rambunctious Americans who stormed the castle for a week. If you’re looking for a Scottish getaway at a historic estate, look no further, you won’t be disappointed.

Booked Gilmerton House for our wedding in late September and it couldn’t have gone any better! Graham and his team were exceptional, providing genuine hospitality and making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. It was the perfect venue for our wedding and the venue was made all the more special by the staff.

I’ve done a catering here with my Private chef company in summer 2018, and this place is beautiful. A vast park with a fantastic view from the rooms. I also met the owners who are very kind and pleasant people. The kitchen is well equipped, and the staff is friendly and very professional At the time I served my catering the famous Butler Simeon Rosset was serving the house as well. Highly recommended.
