An Edwardian country house on the edge of the National Trust village of Bossington, where Exmoor meets the sea. From almost every window, views sweep across Porlock Bay to Hurlstone Point and up onto open moorland.

This is a house built for bringing people together. The vast dining hall seats up to 75, so every generation fits round one table. A large main kitchen and a second kitchen make catering for a crowd easy. Eighteen guests sleep in the main house, with eight more in the simpler Bossington Bunkhouse in the grounds.

Outside, eight acres of gardens hold a pond and a waterfall, with space for children to explore and dogs welcome too.

Stay self-catering, choose our B&B option, or let us recommend a private chef. Then step onto the South West Coast Path, climb Selworthy Beacon, or simply watch the light change over the bay

Location and Things to Do

Bossington Hall sits inside Exmoor National Park, between the moor and the sea. It’s a superb base for walkers, with the South West Coast Path and Selworthy Beacon right on the doorstep. Explore ancient woodland and unspoilt valleys, fly fish for trout on the lakes and the River Exe, or wander into Porlock and medieval Dunster for lunch. After dark, Exmoor’s International Dark Sky Reserve status makes for spectacular stargazing.

Back at the house, the tennis and squash courts on site keep every generation busy.

Edmund's Favourite Feature

“I love a house with Exmoor on one side and Porlock Bay on the other, and you see both from almost every window. The dining hall seats 75, so a big family can eat at a single table.”

WOW! Honestly, our heads are spinning. We truly believe we have found the most beautiful spot in the country! (Maybe the whole world?) Don’t know where to begin… okay we shall being with Guy, UH-mazing! So kind and friendly lovely! And funny! Just a wonderful welcome! And what a miracle of an experience he has cultivated here! The estate itself is perched upon a hill with a pristine view over the beautiful Exmoor hills and coastline! Absolutly breathtaking! Lol, I in fact have officially decided that I would just like to be a ghost now and haunt Bossington Hall forever! Lol, I have found my happy place! My husband and I are on our second night here, and felt compelled to share how MAGICALthis has been so far. We don’t even want to leave to do all the walks we had planned! The view from the Greenaleigh room is absolutely breath-taking, and we find ourselves just sitting and staring, mouths agape, out the window! Lol, like for hours! The hall is relatively freshly renovated, the furnishings are beautiful, the food is all freshly prepared and local. Even though they don’t have a restaurant for dinner onsite, my husband and I have felt compelled (since we absolutely cannot pull ourselves away from this place!) to enjoy their chef-made frozen meals which are DEEELICIOUS!! Like, next-level amazing!! I don’t know how they have done all of this… but this place feels like a dream. I’m an interior designer and I’m the most picky so-n-so you can imagine, a real princess-and-the-pea… and my goodness, I just cannot say enough good things about this place! We’re floating on clouds. Unfortunately we’ve only booked four nights this trip, but are already working in how to come back here and experience every season we are able to:) Just truly MAGICAL. I wish that everyone had the chance to experience the majesty of this place:) THANK YOU to the owners for creating this place for us to come and experience:) Truly, you have made it the vacation of a lifetime already:)

Absolutely the best B&B we have ever had the pleasure of visiting. We had 3 nights in their largest room, Heddon, which had views of the sea and surrounding hills. Bathroom is huge with shower and soaking tub. Furnishings, linen, robes and towels are of high quality. The proprietor has made sure everything is exceptional from cleanliness to a well stocked honesty bar. Don’t pass up the chance of staying at Bossington Hall.

We stayed here recently for one night and have already booked a return trip. It is just wonderful here. The rooms are spacious, beautifully furnished, and very comfortable. Our view was stunning and you could practically “hear” the quiet. There are lovely choices for simple suppers if you choose to stay in (which we did) and breakfast was superb. Just by walking out the door we were able to access the SW Coast Path and explore the landscape. Bossington Hall, we thought, is a perfect location for being in nature and clearing your mind. Couldn’t recommend more highly!
