Northcourt is a Grade II-listed Jacobean manor house on the Isle of Wight, set within 15 acres of splendid gardens.
It is suitable for all sorts of parties and celebrations and corporate and business use.
The house can sleep 40 guests and can be rented separately or altogether in three parts: the North Wing (sleeps up to 18 adults with two children’s beds), Little Northcourt (the West Wing, sleeping 14 adults and 2 children), or Northcourt (the East Wing), which sleeps 12 for Bed and Breakfast.
The North Wing
The North Wing was originally the front of the house and has the grandest guest bedrooms and reception rooms.
There are nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms, and fold-up beds and cots can be supplied for children.
One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor and has an en-suite, which is great for guests who’d rather avoid stairs.
The reception rooms include a kitchen (with a table for 16), a living room and the music room, which has high-ceilinged and painted a glorious raspberry pink. It also has a grand piano and can be transformed to provide formal dining for over 50 guests.
Outside, there is a south-facing terrace and a three-acre Games Field, for raucous game-playing.
Or impromptu lacrosse, if you’re feeling Blyton, and have the sticks.
There’s also a grass tennis-court, with a net.
Little Northcourt (the East wing)
Little Northcourt was originally the servant’s wing, and has a more relaxed and home-like feel than the North wing.
The house sleeps 14 in 7 bedrooms with 7 bathrooms, and children’s beds and cots available.
One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor.
There’s also a playroom, upstairs.
Downstairs are a large kitchen and a breakfast room (seating 10), a living room, and a sun room, which leads onto the garden.
The garden is south-facing, enclosed and private.
Guests are welcome to share the games field.
Northcourt (East Wing)
The East Wing operates as a Bed and breakfast and has two bedrooms which are also available to hire.
Location and Things to Do
Northcourt is located on the south-west coast of the Isle of Wight, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s close to beaches and the Downs for scenic walks. The nearest village, Shorwell, has a shop and pub.

Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“Northcourt is charming in its entirety, or in each of its parts. The house is beautifully presented and the owners work hard to ensure their guests are well looked after. My favourite bit? That Music Room, with all of its potential for pretty much any type of evening you might desire.”

Northcourt House is a lovely place to stay. Our Art group has had 2 holidays there now with over 20 people. We hire 1 or 2 of the wings. If you don’t want to hire a whole wing, there are 2 guest rooms that can be individually booked as B&B. The bedrooms are very special with lots of space, views and lovely period furniture. The kitchen is very well fitted with everything you need to cater for larger groups. The Great Hall in one of the wings is wonderful for group meals together. The 15 acres of gardens are stunning with beautiful plants from all over the world. There is so much to see and paint, you can enjoy just being there all week, without going anywhere else. The Harrison family who run it are very diligent if you need any help. I’m sure we will be going back again either as a group or individually.

An absolutely beautiful house and garden. A fantastic place for a relaxing holiday or break. A big thank you to John and Christine, who run the bed and breakfast stays there. Their kindness and thoughtfulness made our stay there outstanding.

beautiful house in Shorwell with beautiful gardens .. peace and quiet .. Beautiful views …. I was in the garden itself, because I live on the Island .. But if you want there is an option of bed and breakfast .. look for details on the website . About 15 minutes by car and you can also visit Carisbrooke Castle and many others .. Overall the Island is magical .

Visited in November 2021 for an art retreat. This place had perfect facilities for the retreat, brilliantly appointed kitchens for our catering, and sitting rooms for the evening natters around the fire place. The sleeping quarters with their en suites were well laid out and comfortable. The surroundings also provided ample inspiration for our respective art works. Overall, an absolutely wonderful stay.

Recently stayed in Northcourt House and Little Northcourt combined with a group of 28 people and we all had a wonderful time. All the rooms are beautifully furnished and decorated and most have stunning views of the grounds and surroundings. There was plenty of space for our whole group to gather for meals and socializing, as well as areas for smaller groups to sit and chat.
Northcourt is run by a family who take great pride in their houses and grounds. They made us feel most welcome and we were able to relax in comfortable, clean and homely surroundings.
Everything is exactly as described on the website and detailed in the visitors advance information.
This was our second year and we have already booked for next year.
Highly recommended

We have just had a fabulous holiday with my family, there was 16 of us sharing the main part of the house . It was very well preserved in its English charm inside and out side , modern kitchen for your family to enjoy together . There is plenty of space so your not on top of each other. It would of been nice to use the swimming pool but it was for private use only We had a room over looking the garden to the front of the house we couldn’t fault it . Definitely recommend it for a family holiday.

The grounds are beautiful with many interesting trees, shrubs and plants, a there is a working kitchen garden and Apiary. On garden open days the cakes are amazing.

What a treat to be able to stay in such a grand house, stepping back in time to room of high ceiling and full height windows overlooking the well kept garden. Delightful.

We had a wonderful time at Northcourt last weekend. We came in 2009 for my 50th birthday so it was the obvious choice for my 60th this year. The gardens are as stunning as ever, and the house was magnificent – deliciously comfortable beds, great kitchen facilities and plenty of nooks and crannies for people who wanted to escape the crowd for a while. It was lovely to have so many walks straight from the door….and a tumble drier to deal with all the soggy clothing! Thank you so much for the warm welcome. We will be back.

A super place to recharge your batteries if you enjoy comfortable country living and peace and quiet. Space and elegance, a well cooked breakfast with home produce will wrap you up and leave you feeling relaxed and inspired. Charming hosts, John and Christine have created something special here, inside and out. They looked after us wonderfully well. (Barney the black labrador was a delight too.)

Such a beautiful house and gardens. We arrived on bicycles, were welcomed and shown to our rooms. We could then soak in a bath and walk into the village for supper. Breakfast the next day was full of delicious home made produce. A real gem.

Came here with the family for a week for our daughters birthday and stayed in little Northcourt house ( west wing). Absolutely fantastic, a beautiful retreat. Peaceful and tranquil. We all had a wonderful time. James the owner was brilliant and the couple of small problems we had he rectified straight away. Dogs are welcome and some super walks around. The kitchen was fully equipped and a fantastic lounge to sit in, spot on. The gardens are beautiful and we were fortunate to have our own private secure garden space for the grandchildren and dog.

NorthCourt Manor is the most beautiful private home and it is such a privilege to stay there. The hosts, John and Christine Harrson, have created a stunning and peaceful haven, and they are very welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are large and comfortable with views of the gorgeous grounds and gardens. Breakfast is home made and often from the garden and it’s always delicious. It is wonderful to share such a beautiful place, and coming from the town, there is such a sense of space. The gardens are outstanding, full of birds and butterflies. We have stayed there many times since we discovered NorthCourt 11 years ago and we hope to come back ever year – forever!

We had an amazing weekend. Christine and John were wonderful hosts, the room was lovely, the gardens were beautiful. Our daughter loved the jungle part of the garden with the Tarzan swings and the local pub was very family friendly. An ideal location to explore the beautiful west coast of the Isle of Wight. We can’t wait to return!

We (a group of friends – 30 persons) have had two wonderful New Year celebrations 2017-2018 and 2018-2019, each for 10 days, renting both Northcourt and Little Northcourt. James (owner) was very attentive, helpful and kind! We had everything we needed. Very convenient food delivery, enough space for all of us, and it was really like our own home. Highly recommended! Hopefully we too will come again.

We chose Northcourt House for our wedding reception, and couldn’t have been happier. Our family and friends took up residence in the house for the weekend, and everyone was extolling the virtues of the comfortable bedrooms and sitting rooms, the well-stocked kitchens, and the gorgeous grounds. As far as our wedding went the venue couldn’t have been more perfect, but we would also recommend Northcourt wholeheartedly to large groups wanting to take a trip away together.

Rooms were beautifully decorated with en-suite for both wings, plenty of space for lounging, dining, playing outside in the grand gardens. Tennis court, table tennis, fireplaces, 3 kitchens, etc – perfect stay, quintessentially English

To call this a B&B really doesn’t do it justice. It’s an old manor house, restored with care and attention to detail. The welcome was warm and friendly, the rooms are superb and the wonderful breakfasts included food from the garden. The grounds were huge, and very attractively laid out, with a good pub at the end of the garden! It’s ideally located for anywhere in the Isle of Wight. I’d recommend Northcourt without hesitation.

We have recently stayed at the B & B part of Northcourt for 3 nights and really enjoyed our break. The property is amazing and a very grand place to stay. The grounds are immaculate. We wanted peace and quiet and we certainly got that. Our room was large and the bed was SO comfortable (we slept extremely well) but the shower was an issue for us (it’s in a wardrobe). Others may find that this doesn’t detract from the overall splendour of the room but we found it did. The breakfast was very fresh & tasty but a bit limited.

We had seven families staying in the 2 main houses. Everything was fantastic with a great welcome pack and amazing rooms. The gardens are truly special and the owners were very tolerant of our rabble. The walking and cycling from the house is brilliant and you’re very central so everywhere is less than 30 mins. Highly recommended from a group for whom this is their 24th year of big house stays.

We stayed at Little Northcourt over Easter with family. The house is very well suited for families with children looking for a comfortable base from which to explore the island. The owners were great throughout the booking process helping with our journey and organising rooms to suit our group. The kitchen was very well equipped and catering for a large group was no problem. Set in lovely grounds, there’s plenty to do nearby and a good local pub in the village that was happy to cater for large parties. All in all a very relaxing place to be.

Relaxing, peaceful and beautiful place. If you want to relax, you can. If your outgoing there are so many things to do. Lovely walks, long and short depending on your fitness. The hosts are always available to give you ideas of things to do to make your stay more enjoyable. The gardens of Northcourt are just as beautiful and inviting as the wonderful manor. I have stayed several times and i nevet get tired of the place. I am looking forward to going again.

Fourteen of us spent Christmas week in Little Northcourt. It was fabulous. The spacious rooms were perfect for our get together and the beautiful log fire made it really cosy. The house was ready for Christmas when we arrived, with a decorated tree and other seasonal touches. Even in the depth of winter we were able to enjoy walking through the lovely gardens and we were able to take a short cut to and from the midnight service in the church. James and Katherine went to so much trouble to make our stay memorable and happy and we really enjoyed the welcome basket of goodies, Thank you both very much and thank you also for finding and returning my lost glove.

We had our wedding at Northcourt in September and it was simply wonderful. The house is a perfect venue for a relaxed and intimate wedding; so many of our guests commented that it felt like a great house party, and that's exactly what we wanted! James was incredibly helpful throughout and put up with my incessant questions. From ladder availability to dimensions of windows, James was happy to come back to anything I put to him! Thank you for a perfect day

We had our wedding reception at Northcourt, John, Christine, James and Katherine were all so helpful, understaning, flexible and kind it made the whole organisation really easy. The house itself was a stunning background. We filled it with guests, all of which were delighted by the genuine elegance of the house, the beauty of the grounds and the incredible gardens! Thank you!

We had a brilliant holiday, the house was perfect for a large group with small children, loads of rooms meant that the children had space to play whilst the adults could have a toy free lounge. The bedrooms were lovely with so many en suites, gorgeous kitchen with amazing welcome basket. The games room was a hit with all ages and the paddock out front was lovely to play on too. Thank you, we'll be back! x
