Holly Tree House was built overlooking the River Wye as a hotel in the late 1700s to take advantage of the new interest in ‘tourism’. As the Wye Valley was the birthplace of British tourism it could justifiably be described as Britain’s first tourist hotel.

A beautiful big house in Symonds Yat. Getting to it is a bit of a challenge for the last mile or so but absolutely worth the effort and once you’re there you don’t want to budge. Close to the river, an easy walk to the pub and more challenging hill walks around for those who want them. It has everything for a peaceful holiday. Needs more cutlery but otherwise smashing.

Nice place to stay for a weekend

Doug

This is a delightful place to stay. Overlooking the River Wye with the wooded Yat on the opposite bank the location could hardly be bettered. Driving from London is easy, and the house has a period charm and a modern and well appointed kitchen. Altogether, this is a great venue for a family group, or old chums. You will have a great time here, whether you want to go hiking, canoeing, pub crawling, or just do nothing at all!!

Stayed here for a long weekend a couple of weeks ago and had the absolute best time! There were 18 of us for my partner’s birthday celebrations – Oli was the perfect host and the house was an amazing and idyllic setting for the festivities. Thank you Oli for being brilliant and letting us stay at Holly Tree House 🙂

We had an absolutely incredible stay in Holly Tree House. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome and it has everything you need for a relaxing stay catching up with family and friends. Comfortable beds, clean and tidy rooms and set in the most perfect location. Waking up and hearing nothing but the river and the birds was simply sublime and we left feeling rejuvenated and totally relaxed. Can’t wait to come back again next year – we have done lots of research and it doesn’t get much better than this for the price. Excellent value. stunning location. Thanks again.

Incredible location – lots of great walks and pubs nearby, not to mention the scenery. Everything well-equipped and clean. Definitely won’t be our last visit!

Great place in a fabulous setting..!!

Jane Mary

Fabulous rental property, slightly dated interior, however it is having a refurbishment during the winter.

Great big house, perfect for a large family gathering. Beautiful location.

Being truthful the building is a bit tired but it’s around 2k cheaper than similarly sized accommodation in the area, so perfectly acceptable.

Kitchen was well equipped, house was clean. Plenty of room in the bins for rubbish. Access is down a single track road, but it’s fine can easily get a LWB transit or Transporter down there.

Usefully came with dish cloths, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and bog roll.

Lovely walking along the river and in the woods behind the house.

No mobile signal, which isn’t a surprise due to the location and internet is a bit slow but fine for streaming Netflix. Would rather spend time having fun with the people there, than be on the internet all weekend so not a problem.

Fab few days away shame WiFi was slow and no signal

Lovely and beautiful setting. So peaceful. Walks all over the place. The house itself is fully equipped, rooms are basic but clean. Few en suites and 2 x family bathrooms. Big outside seating area which is nice for big groups.

Large space for our large family, could do with some TLC , all of the down stairs needs a lick of paint . Quite a bit of damp in some of the rooms so much so it affected a couple of us who have asthma, but it is a great location and a very large house , access not great for anyone with larger vehicles. Expected a bit better for the money

Phil Parker

Lovely place, had everything we needed including a nice view and dog friendly, fairly good amount of parking available. Downside being no mobile phone signal and when we stayed the phone line was dead. Plenty in the area to keep you busy.
