The Barns – The Stables & Wainhouse & Granary

Set on our family farm in the village of Lyonshall in Herefordshire, The Stables, Wainhouse & Granary is part of The Barns at Upper House sleeping up to 20 guests. We also offer exclusive hire for stays of up to 48 guests, with another configuration for up to 28 guests. (See our other listings).

Our barns are beautifully and considerately furnished, with thoughtfully curated pieces to enjoy as you walk around the spaces.

The Stables, Wainhouse & Granary are internally-connected barns sleeping up to 20 guests. With 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms, and plenty of space to dine together, it’s a great place to gather together. Our Stables Arch room opens out onto the patio, and is perfect for indoor/outdoor dining. There’s a huge amount of space in the garden for playing games, or a BBQ, with the hot tub under a covered area.

We offer flexibility in our bedrooms, with options to arrange the beds in superking/twin configurations and a daybed available in certain spaces. All options can be sent over upon enquiry.

We are ideal for families, and have an outdoor play area for children, large garden areas for games, and fun bedrooms for the children including one accessible only by footbridge(!) You can bring all of the family along as we are also dog friendly.

As well as recommending our favourite local spots to visit, we can help organise your stay – whether that’s arranging for caterers to come and cook up a feast, or to arrange some activities for you to enjoy at The Barns. We can arrange for spa treatments, yoga classes, and we can offer on-site services such as additional cleaning services throughout your stay. We can also arrange for our local suppliers to deliver some produce for your arrival, including flowers from our local florist.

We are located in Lyonshall in Herefordshire, sitting aside the Welsh border in an area known as The Marches. It is an area of incredible natural beauty and local history with many lovely historic towns to visit and activities to enjoy the outdoors.

The village is sat on a historic ‘Black & White Trail’, a 40 mile circular route going through Herefordshire’s towns and villages that have the characteristic black and white timber buildings infamous in the area. We have the local cathedral city of Hereford, home of the Mappa Mundi, as well as the antiques havens of Leominster and Ludlow nearby. Hay-on-Wye, the renowned book town is around 30 minutes away and is well worth a visit.

It’d be easy to think that being rural there isn’t much to do, but we are surrounded by fun experiences for all. We have historic homes and gardens, great villages and towns, walks in every directions, festivals, and food suppliers – many of whom offer tours and tastings.

The Barns were used originally for cattle, chickens and horses were housed for many years, and many architectural details remain within the space.
