Situated at the end of a private driveway and encircled by lovely parkland, Lorton House is a stunning property with plenty of space. With its spacious, light-filled rooms with fantastic sea views, the house has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate up to 18 guests. The property is ideal for special events and family vacations because it balances comfort and grandeur.
Formal and informal gathering and unwinding areas have been thoughtfully incorporated into the interior spaces. The tastefully decorated dining room has sixteen seats. A roaring hearth adds cosiness and warmth to the space. The centre of the house is the large breakfast area in the farmhouse-style kitchen. With the option to hire a professional chef, it is fully equipped to host large groups and features a gorgeous four-oven Aga that keeps it warm.
The property has plenty of spots to unwind and enjoy yourself, including a large drawing room with views of the sea and an open fire that’s perfect for evening gatherings. The cellars’ vaulted billiard room features a full-sized table for entertainment, and the snug is a comfortable spot for board games or peaceful relaxation. The separate wine cellar, where they can store their favourite bottles, will be a hit with wine lovers.
Eight bedrooms are available, most of which have views of the surrounding countryside and private bathrooms. There is a handy bedroom downstairs for visitors who would rather remain on the ground floor. An additional room for two people is available for an additional £100 per night.
The outdoor area is equally stunning with 11 acres of lovely grounds with various spots for lounging and activities. You can play games outside, go on treasure hunts, read quietly, or play hide-and-seek in the gardens. Several outdoor dining spaces have been thoughtfully positioned to capitalise on the breathtaking views of Weymouth Bay. On hot summer evenings, these are the ideal spots to eat and drink al fresco.
Location and Things to Do
Weymouth, with its award-winning beach and mainline train station, is just 15 minutes away, and travel from London takes around 2.5 hours by car. Coastal walks abound nearby, with Dorset’s famous Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door just a 25-minute walk from the house, and wildlife lovers will adore exploring the adjoining Lorton Meadows Nature Reserve, home to acres of ancient meadows and woodland.
The only challenge during your stay will be deciding what to do first!

House Fact
Thomas Hardy was likely involved in the design of the house whilst he was apprenticed to a local firm of architects. Many original features including servants’ bells and an internal window still taped up from WW2 to prevent the glass shattering. House has been in the same family for 70 years.
Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“Lorton is a welcoming, history-packed home, and the views from the house and grounds are what really make it stand out.”

AMAZING week over Easter at the gorgeous and very, very special Lorton House, just outside Weymouth. 3 generations celebrating my husband’s 70th birthday (plus 2 nieces’ birthdays the same week). We booked the annexe in addition to the house, for 18 of us. Every single room was stunning, beautifully decorated and furnished and spotlessly clean, high quality bed linen and towels, and more than enough toilets and bathrooms. SO much space for us all inside and out, from the huge kitchen diner (there is a dining room too), 2 lounges, massive cellar with billiard and football tables and 11 acres of garden (which was the scene for the best Easter Egg Hunt ever). We self catered all week and found the kitchen extremely well equipped with huge amounts of crockery, glasses, cutlery and cooking items plus extra of everything needed for a large group – 2 fridges, freezer, 2 dishwashers, 2 kettles and toasters. We used the Aga but there is an electric cooker as well. The children were outside playing a lot and the weather was so good we were able to eat outside a couple of evenings. We had walks from the door through Lorton Meadows Nature Reserve plus visits to Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Charmouth, Weymouth and Portland. None of us will forget our big family holiday here, lots of lovely memories made. I don’t think anywhere else could top our stay at Lorton House. Thank you so much to the owners for sharing this lovely place and especially to Fiona for seamlessly managing my booking and the odd question (the scales and cake tins were put to good use by my young granddaughter!)

We recently stayed at Lorton House in Weymouth for a special birthday celebration, and it truly made the occasion unforgettable. The house itself is absolutely beautiful—spacious, full of character, and impeccably presented. From the moment we arrived, it felt warm, welcoming, and perfectly suited for a family gathering.
Every room was thoughtfully designed and exceptionally comfortable, giving us plenty of space to relax and enjoy time together. The surroundings were peaceful and idyllic, adding to the whole experience. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there, and we couldn’t have chosen a better place for such a meaningful celebration.
We would highly recommend Lorton House to anyone looking for a stunning property and a memorable stay. We hope to return again in the future

my god is this place still going I remember when I was a kid I belive this was a privite house and the guy didn’t like people crossing the land even though it had public footpath/bridal ways we used to walk to wey valley school he used to take pot shots at us with his gun never ever hit anyone don’t think he would do that. but he knew the local lads of Littlemoor as we used to ask if we could collect conkers. very nice guy really to speak to. but great memories of growing up in Littlemoor and never bored

Our three generational 14 strong family group stayed at Lorton House over an extended bank holiday weekend and enjoyed a tremendous time. The house is in a wonderful position surrounded by countryside but close to the centre of Weymouth (with nearby amenities and supermarkets). We self catered for the whole time and found the house and wonderful kitchen tremendously well equipped and very user friendly as long as you know your way around an Aga which we found a great boon. The rooms and common areas are very spacious so the house never seemed crowded. Inevitably, we had the odd question which Fiona answered promptly and fully. We cannot recommed Lorton House too highly.

We had a wonderful family Christmas at Lorton House.
In advance of our arrival Fiona was super helpful and during the stay itself the family responded speedily to all our questions.
There is a definite “wow” factor as you turn in to the lovely long drive and see the house for the first time. It was perfect for our family of 3 generations with beautiful rooms throughout. That said we spent most of our time together cooking, eating and playing games in the kitchen/dining room by the Aga.
We have stayed as a family in many houses throughout the UK for Christmas but this is our favourite so far. We will be back!

Fabulous house set in beautiful grounds with easy access to Weymouth. There is lots of space in the house. The beds are very comfortable and there are ensuite bathrooms for most of the bedrooms. There is a large formal dining room for special occasions but you can also sit a large group in the kitchen if you want casual dining. The sitting room is also spacious & has lovely log fire. We went in January & the house was warm. We’d love to go back in the summer to take advantage of the grounds and out door dining.

Fabulous holiday home in easy reach of Weymouth. Lots of space both inside and out. We loved cycling to Sea Life, parks, the beach, Portland. Superb bedrooms, lots of bathrooms, snooker table in the cellar. Highly recommend

Thanks again for a wonderful stay. This is our 2nd big family get together at Lorton House. It’s the most beautiful spot, gorgeous rooms and plenty of space for everyone to spend time together or go off into different areas if they want and it’s just perfectly suited for everyone in our family and extended family. The garden is amazing and tranquil and the house always clean and beautifully maintained. I can’t wait for another excuse to have a get together there again!

Lorton House provided a wonderfully luxurious accommodation for 18 members of our family, plus visiting guests who joined us for meals. The house is elegantly furnished, extremely well equipped and all bedding is of high quality. Everyone ( 3 generations) felt catered for, happy and relaxed. This house lends itself to a sense of freedom and enjoyment as well as accommodating our fabulously ‘posh’ dinner in the elegant dining room. Breakfasts and lunches were enjoyed in the comfortable farm house kitchen and adjoining dining area. We cannot speak too highly of Fiona our friendly and helpful host- thoughtful touches, such as a welcome hamper and birthday card, were much appreciated.
