Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“Assynt is a very special house, renovated from dereliction by its owners, Graham and Elizabeth. It really does make the perfect house-party – all the bedrooms are large and en-suite, and every detail has been carefully thought through. It’s one of my very favourites of the Scottish grand houses.”

A truly beautiful venue that we cannot recommend enough. From the first visit to our wedding day, both Elizabeth and Graham were welcoming, supportive and accommodating. A stunning building with well kept grounds, and an elegant interior right down to the small details truly showing the love and dedication established into this house. Our day ran seamlessly with no added pressure due to all the support and work by Elizabeth and her staff. Endless compliments were expressed from our guests regarding the catering provided by Graham for our wedding meal. A true hidden gem set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.

The Assynt House was just spectacular for our group. It was beautiful inside and out. The owners were wonderful people, and made our stay just unbelievable. While there take a drive up the road past the House entrance for some of the best scenery you have ever seen.

This house is perfect for a group holiday. The owners have thought of everything – and the little touches like flowers in the rooms speak volumes about their attention to detail. We have a group of 12 here. Everyone loves it. Graeme’s cooking is fabulous too.

A beautiful experience from start to finish. We were getting married in the nearby town of Dingwall and booked this beautiful house for our reception and to accommodate the bride’s family. There’s obviously been a lot of care put into restoration, creating a house with enormous character and elegance. Every room seems to have a few unique touches that make it special.

The grounds and the house are stunning, but Elizabeth and Graham provided so much more than a pretty backdrop. Elizabeth answered all of our questions from the first enquiry to checking out and was very helpful with decision-making and planning the reception. When we viewed the house in chilly February, Elizabeth and Graham’s warm welcome reassured us that we’d made the perfect choice.

Graham was helpful and flexible as we planned our wedding meal, which became the main event of the evening (instead of a dance). The meal was well-timed and perfectly delicious – several guests came up to say how impressive it was. It was truly great both in recipe design and technical execution. Graham even provided four courses instead of three when we couldn’t decide between his suggestions, plus canapés beforehand for us and our 32 guests. We particularly appreciated that guests with allergies and other dietary requirements were fully provided for, from canapés to final course, without any trouble at all.

Outwith the food, Graham and Elizabeth accommodated our suggestions for bar stock and passed on their supplier’s notes about what wine to pair with the meal. Elizabeth and her team were assiduous and friendly as they waited on everyone – from arriving to finishing the last course, nobody had an empty glass who didn’t want one.

Beyond the reception, my family was well looked after. We were especially impressed by the care taken by the housekeeping staff. On the morning of the wedding, my bridesmaids and I had a breakfast spread and at some point housekeeping cleaned up the area, including washing the special tea set I had brought and wrapping up leftovers to enjoy later. Everybody involved went above and beyond for us.

It was truly a 5-star experience; the wedding would never have been as we imagined had we stayed anywhere else. No detail was ignored at any point – we felt that they really cared. Huge thanks for making our day and stay perfect!

A wonderful and welcoming experience. Our hosts were excellent and the house is incredible. I highly recommend it

We had an absolutely wonderful and comfortable stay at Assynt House in Dingwall, Evanton. The home is a food-lover’s dream — a true chef’s kitchen stocked with everything you could possibly need to create beautiful dinners. One evening, we hired Graham to cook for us, and the result was nothing short of an absolute feast. The hosts could not have been more attentive. Elizabeth, Graham’s wife, went above and beyond — knowing I have celiac disease, she thoughtfully included gluten-free cookies in the welcome package, which was such a kind and personal touch.

Assynt House is warm, elegant, and perfectly set up for a relaxing stay, with every detail carefully considered. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special Highlands escape.

What a Wonderfull, fabulous place to visit. Such a warm welcome, beautiful country style home, in a breathtaking setting. So much history and the owners couldn’t’ be more friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend Assynt house to anyone planning a visit to the Highlands.

The whole experience was amazing, the house is beautiful, comfortable and warm. All the bedrooms are of equal standard, the kitchen is spotless and there’s always a blazing fire at the end of the day. Graham and Elizabeth are fantastic hosts, low key and helpful when you need anything. The house stands in a lovely big garden overlooking forests, mountains and the sea, the sunrises and sunsets were magical. There were so many places to visit and things to do that we ran out of time so it’s a good job we’ll be back next year. I think my highlights were cycling round Loch Ness with a view of the loch on one side and the forest, lit up by the sun in all its Autumn colours, on the other and the walk along Port Mahonach beach followed by a bowl of Cullen Skink in Tain.

Aruna Utting

We had the pleasure of staying at Assynt House recently and were delighted and enchanted by it’s beauty and tranquility. The hosts were discreet and helpful. One of the many highlights was the wonderful cuisine prepared each evening by Graham. We would thoroughly recommend a stay. Aruna and Trevor.

Beautiful house in the most amazing setting, with stunning views from every window. Assynt House provides very comfortable, luxurious accommodation, with all the facilities and equipment to ensure your stay is one to remember. The food cooked by Graham was exceptional and the service exemplary.

This year again, we have spent a delightful time with family at Assynt House, a magnificent property with lovely gardens, looking out on the Cromarty Firth in Ross-shire (a great base for exploring the Scottish Highlands). Assynt House is so beautiful, with tastefully appointed rooms and spacious bedrooms with gorgeous en suite bathrooms. Fresh flowers abound and the housekeeping is impeccable. We all enjoyed the delicious meals Graham prepared for us and the first-class service throughout from the Assynt team.

Elizabeth and Graham, thank you for being such kind and wonderful hosts. We shall return!

Christina Potter

Amazing house, fantastic service and ideal for a family get together. Graham and Elizabeth are fabulous hosts. Graham’s culinary skills are outstanding and Elizabeth manages everything to provide a perfect stay. Five stars!

Rachel Jannetta

Can’t say enough good things about Assynt House. Elizabeth does an incredible job managing everything right to the last detail and Graham is a fabulous chef. The house is really elegant, very luxurious and the grounds add the final special touch. We’ve been visiting since 2007 and look forward to our next stay. A truly wonderful venue.

Spoiled Rotten in the Highlands Our family, all adult couples, recently spent four marvelous days at the Assynt House. The house is super comfortable, so nicely appointed and the bedrooms were large with ensuite bathrooms and wonderful products. We enjoyed every aspect of the house, the gardens, and the area where the house is situated.

The best part of our stay, however, was the incredible hospitality of our hosts, Elizabeth and Graham. We strongly recommend that you book the catering along with the house. We had a delicious and filling breakfast every day before we headed out and came home to a fire in the fireplace and Graham in the kitchen prepping dinner. I looked forward every day to chatting with him and sharing our exploration of the Highlands. Meanwhile, he prepared an scrumptious dinner every night we were at the Assynt House. We all felt so spoiled by Graham and Sarah (who helped with the dinner service). It allowed us to really relax as a family, we had deep conversations and several evenings with rousing, competitive games.

We all can’t wait to return!

We stayed at Assynt House for 4 nights and celebrated our wedding on the lawns in June 2024. From start to finish our stay and experience were absolutely incredible. Graham and Elizabeth were wonderful hosts who paid incredible attention to the smaller details. Elizabeth was a stable and experienced support in organising our wedding and a key part to the day being such a success. Graham, a fantastic chef who catered for the wedding. The food was delicious and I am already chasing for some of the recipes from the day!

The house itself is beautiful, warm and comfortable to stay in. To get married in such a lovely venue is something that we will treasure forever. We would highly recommend this as somewhere to spend some time and encourage you to spend more time than less to really experience the place.

I am from Inverness, which is a 30 minute drive away and we actually just stumbled across Assynt House. We had around 140 guests for our wedding, many local who were also unaware of the great job that Graham and Elizabeth have done with the house. We received so many positive comments about the venue and know that this is a gem.

The staff at Assynt House went above and beyond to make our stay special. They were always lovely to deal with, ready to support and happy to answer any questions we had. Their attention to detail and genuine care for our experience made a huge difference.

The grounds of Assynt House are just as impressive. We loved exploring the beautifully gardens and taking walks through the surrounding woodlands.

We honestly cannot recommend this highly enough.

Thank you both for your hospitality.

Nick BARNETT

My family and I recently stayed at Assynt House and we had a wonder time. The house is amazing – very spacious and beautiful. The owners, Elizabeth and Graham, were so friendly and helpful, both during our stay and before. Before our arrival, they sent us an email with really helpful information about the house, and subsequently responded to our multiple enquiries about local shops and delivery of ordered food. Thank you Elizabeth and Graham for helping to make our stay so wonderful!

I just wrapped up a week long stay here at the Assynt House. This place is incredible. A loving restored old country manor house. Updated with modern amenities with out sacrificing any of the country feel. Surrounded by gardens, this the perfect place for the fairy tail dream wedding. Or just a great place to stay while exploring the Scottish Highlands on a vacation with family or friends.

Only 20-30 minutes to Historic down town Inverness and Loch Ness.

The hosts and staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic.

Tyler M

Faultless. Loved our stay here. The owners and staff were great as well the building having both a luxury but also homely feel.

Trevor Bryant

Assynt House is the Balmoral Castle for those who aren’t royalty. It is a spectacular home lovingly restored and maintained by the owners. Elizabeth & Graham are gracious hosts who are welcoming, attentive and were fabulous at making dinner on our arrival. Our vacation there was incredible and won’t be forgotten. It is simply a fantastic and beautiful home.

Jessica O'Brien

I cannot say enough about the fantastic stay we had at the Assynt House this past long weekend for a friends reunion. The house and location were gorgeous and every last detail was considered by the hardworking, friendly and all around incredible owners, Elizabeth and Graham. The house is even more amazing in person than the pictures could do justice. Each beautifully furnished and decorated bedroom has a separate bathroom (well equip with everything you could possibly need), the living spaces were perfect to accommodate our group of friends for the weekend and the catered dinners were incredibly delicious (and specially crafted to account for numerous preferences and allergies). We enjoyed the beautiful house and grounds, a close drive to numerous local attractions (including Loch Ness). A highlight for us was the bagpiper playing on the night of our arrival (which Elizabeth kindly coordinated for us!) Every single member of our group of 14 had a fabulous weekend and we are so grateful to Elizabeth and Graham for an incredible stay at the Assynt House. Hope to return soon!

We had a wonderful stay at Assynt House. Beautiful rooms and fantastic service. We will definitely be back!

Emily Robinson

Assynt House was truly the most perfect venue we could ever have imagined for our wedding, but also for the days running up to it, and days afterwards. All of the staff were so friendly and professional, including Elizabeth and Graham themselves who have thought of absolutely everything, and added the most wonderful little touches. We are in awe of what they’ve created and can’t thank them enough. We are really hoping to return to this very special house in the future.

I truly cannot recommend Elizabeth, Graeme and their incredible team highly enough. It is the most perfect of perfect venues and the quality of produce, comfort level and exquisite location are beyond expectation. Our wedding was held here and it’s not anything of an exaggeration to say Assynt House was the reason it was the most wonderful day. Your guests will love the relaxed and luxurious setting and as a couple you will be taken care from the first enquiry to the packing up of leftover cake. There is no other venue that could rival the level of personal care, attention and thoughtfulness that goes into every detail. Elizabeth is simply a dream to liaise with, you will not find a more patient or understanding person to help you with your day. There’s nothing she can’t do or source or sort for you; she’s nothing short of super woman. Graeme’s catering will be the talk of your guests, this is not your standard wedding food by any means. Everything is made with quality produce and is expertly curated and he’s definitely the heart of the kitchen. I am beyond grateful to them both for the sheer amount of hard work and care that went into our day, they made us feel so special and looked after every step of the way.

Matthew Grant

Fantastic venue for a wedding, was there at the weekend for my brother’s wedding. Fantastic food on the evenings as well, I stayed at Redburn Steading which also is a fantastic accommodation.

Assynt House is the perfect place to take a recharging and idillic break. Everything from the food to the cleaning is of the highest quality. Graham and Elizabeth are brilliant hosts.

Another beautiful and invigorating stay at the clean and enchanting Assynt. Your hospitality and attention to detail perfectly underscored an emotional post-lockdown family reunion, heartfelt thank you!

Rowley Taylor

Lovely house, lovely people and lovely landscape with delicious food too!

Kurt B

A truly stunning venue in the most beautiful location, Assynt House is a unique gem of a place. The well kept historic venue is spacious and has all creature comforts, amazing views, peace and quiet and not last deliciously prepared local food. Which makes for four stars. Unfortunately google only allows five in total, including the rating for the amazing and exceptional hosts this should be six!

Sharon Burchett

We stayed at Assynt house with friends and family for a big birthday celebration and it was exceptional! From the moment we booked, every query was handled quickly and efficiently. Whether it was finding us a ceilidh band or recommending great walks – nothing was too much trouble. We did some self-catering and Graham did some of the catering, including a 4 course dinner. The food was superb and the staff who came in to help were a credit to Graham and Elizabeth. We can’t wait to visit again.

Amanda Smith

Perfect weekend at a wedding ceremony, staff were out of this world, nothing too much bother, beds so comfy, stunning gardens, food amazing A+++++

Oscar Giles

I love this place, I try to come back as often as I can. The owners are lovely and very accommodating, the house and gardens are spectacular. I had my wedding here and it was perfect.

Highly recommended.

A group of us stayed at Assynt House in September this year and we had the most wonderful time. The rooms were huge, clean & cosy; the sitting & dining room were perfect for relaxing & eating in; and Elizabeth & Graham were beyond exceptional! We've already booked for September 2020!!

Sandra Ferguson

We stayed here for my niece 40th birthday celebrations. We had a fabulous weekend in fantastic surroundings. We were cooked food by Graham which was fantastic and the service was outstanding . This place is just out of this world

Carole McCartney

Such a gorgeous place. You could not fault anything. Nothing is too much trouble for the hosts Elizabeth and Graham. So clean! The catered food is terrific. Very peaceful and relaxing. Come and stay – you won’t regret it!!!

From the moment we visited Assynt house we knew that was the venue of our dreams. Not only is the house amazing but both Elizabeth and Graham are the most welcoming people who made our very special day possible. A very attentive couple who went out of their way to ensure not only our day went smoothly but also our stay was memorable. Their attention to detail is second to none and their calming influences kept us grounded and reassured throughout the planning process. All our guest were blown away at the house, surroundings and professionalism of all the staff at Assynt House!! We have stayed at many places and been charmed by hosts however we felt this experience was entirely unique as both Elizabeth and Graham warmed our hearts and the hearts of our family and friends!! Every anniversary we will remember not only the venue but the staff at Assynt house, to us this was more than just a venue. Thank you Elizabeth and Graham, we will pop up for coffee and tablet very soon xxx

James Snee

Eight of us from the USA stayed at Assynt House while on a golfing trip in early July of this year. I can hardly find words to describe the experience. Our arrival was feted by a wonderful dinner prepared and served, respectively, by Graham and Elizabeth, the owners. That meal was amazing as were the accommodations and the loving touch these two gracious hosts apply to the guest experience. The rooms are spacious, beautifully appointed, and oh, so, comfortable! Daily breakfast at Assynt House is not to be missed and will leave you wanting for nothing; we seldom ate much out and about during the day before coming home to one of the incredible “one pot” dinners that we enjoyed most evenings. The bucolic setting of the house captures the beauty of The Highlands and it is as peaceful and relaxing a place as I’ve ever experienced. The grounds are also lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed spending evenings (does it EVER get dark in July?) out on the grounds, enjoying local beverages. I truly hope to get back there again one day and would encourage anyone contemplating a visit to do so!

Rachel Jannetta

We've been going to Assynt House for over 10 years now but I've only just caught up with Facebook! Assynt House is a very special place for our family as we lived there from 1960 to 1962 during a difficult time for my mother and sisters, and so the history is deep. Elizabeth and Graham make our visits wonderful every time, with the attention to detail in keeping the house immaculate, the gardens beautiful and Graham's cooking truly delicious. There should be a 6 star rating as the Waughs deserve it for the unique and special home away from home they have created. Can't wait to return.

Peter Taylor

Another magical New Year break in a very special house. 5 stars all the way!

Daniel Falconer

Excellent venue for a wedding and the house is stunning for a relaxed getaway. Elizabeth and Graham are lovely hosts – the food is excellent.

I stayed in assynt house over a weekend at my niece Leanne and Andrews wedding in september, WOW what a beautiful setting, they got married in the grounds of assynt house and it was just Perfect, the house itself is beautifully decorated to a very high standard and just so comfortable, very clean and although its a big house with lovely high ceilings it was so cosy, two big open log fires helped im sure. I would highly recommend assynt house, I hope one day i get the opportunity to stay here again, lastly…… in my opinion its better than 5starsxxxxxxx

Emma Semple

Couldn't recommend this place enough, Elizabeth and Graham are so welcoming and have such a high standard with attention to detail and couldn't be more helpful or accomodating. All the staff are lovely and the food is amazing. Such a beautiful place x

Morabelle Macnab

Fantastic time at Leanne and Andrews wedding .Everything was perfect at Assynt House .Food was amazing .Elizabeth and her team certainly know how to take care of everyone and everything ,and make it a very special day .

Anne Marie Fraser

Arrived home from an amazing weekend at Assynt House celebrating Leanne and Andrew's wedding. Elizabeth and Graham are the perfect hosts, friendly, professional, unintrusive but there when you need them. Nothing was too much bother – you get a wedding coordinator, first class catering, excellent service, everything required to make the day run smoothly. It's such a beautiful house, equipped with everything you could need and maintained to the highest standard. The whole weekend was relaxed, largely due to the most chilled out bride and groom I've known, but also down to the ever calm Elizabeth. Everything and more that you would expect in a hotel. Lastly I would like to thank all the staff at Assynt House for their friendly, professional, helpful service – nothing was too much bother. Now just to find another occasion to stay there.

Lornagh Siegel

Had a super time at Assynt House for a wedding. Food was amazing, staff were so helpful and friendly . Beautiful setting

Kat Hervo

A special family new year spent in this incredible county home, they have though of everything! Loved it!

Laura Lawson

It is difficult to put into words just how perfect our stay, including our wedding, at Assynt House was. From start to finish, including the organisation and communication with Elizabeth and Graham we could not have asked for anything more. The house and grounds are absolutely stunning, with the little extras and attention to detail making it that bit extra special. The rooms are all incredibly well appointed, comfortable and have fantastic en-suites. The public areas are also spacious but homely and welcoming. We had an amazing wedding ceremony in the beautiful garden followed by the most delicious meal cooked by Graham. Every part of the day surpassed our expectations, and this was largely due to the local recommneded links (band, string quartet, florist, photographer, humanist, cake maker) provided by Elizabeth and Graham, and also the highly organised (but never stressful) attitude taken by them, and their wonderful staff. The following day we had another gathering and a BBQ catered by Graham – the same high standards prevailed and we, and our guests, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We cannot thank Assynt House and its owners Elizabeth and Graham enough for making our wedding better than we could have ever imagined. However, it was more than that, and we can't wait to find an excuse to come back. We would have no hesitation recommending Assynt House to anyone considering it for either a holiday, gathering or indeed if you are looking for an exceptional wedding!

Abigail Jessica Wheeler

Had one of the best holidays here! Can't fault the place at all, stunning everything. The views, the rooms, simply beautiful.

Greg Black

What a glorious venue for a wedding or any other friends and family gather. The house is grand, gracious, and cozy. The grounds are filled with beautiful flowers and planting a, and the view of the countryside is brilliant! Finally , the staff is most friendly, warm, and welcoming.

Leigh-Ann Little

Assynt House has to be seen to be believed…it is absolutely stunning. Just enjoyed a family wedding at Assynt House and it was every inch the fairytale venue any couple could dream of. Owners Liz and Graham have created a masterpiece in their renovation of the home, their attention to detail and ensuring their guests' every need is met made our weekend so special. Professionalism incarnate x

Robyn Risbridger

Assynt house is a fantastic venue with many wonderful friendly staff!

Amazing venue, couldn't be more perfect!

Stunning, stunning venue and the owners are lovely!!!

Landed Houses

We stayed in Assynt House in the summer of 2012. Assnyt House is a great challenger for the ‘best appointed’ of all Landed Houses properties – the bedrooms are all en-suite and very comfortable, the baths are large, the hot water and heating work well, there were fresh flowers on arrival and the bathrooms even have those little bottles of bubble bath. We were also treated to a housekeeper daily and she did a sterling job of tidying and re-laying the working fireplaces.

The house was entirely renovated about five years ago and the owners, Elizabeth and Graham, started from scratch and did a fine job. They live in a bothy/cottage a stone’s throw from the back of the house but keep a low profile, unless you need a hand, have questions or need some advice. Graham is an excellent chef too and some parties put his services to use.

Assynt House really is every bit as comfortable as it is portrayed, but with owners that understand you are there to enjoy the house (within reason!) and will add to your stay. A throughly recommended property.
