With one end built in the 16th century and the other in the early 18th century, The Long House got its name for a reason and offers plenty of charm and character for special event or bring family and friends together.
The house sleeps up to 21 guests in its 10 bedrooms with 7 bathrooms comprising eight king-size doubles (two of which can become twins), one twin and one triple (the house can also arrange extra beds to add to some of the double rooms on request). There is also a comfortable sofa bed in the private morning room on the ground floor.
Downstairs is a large, practical kitchen including a breakfast table that adjoins a light conservatory dining room that can comfortably seat 22 guests. There’s also a large room at the end of the house perfect for larger banquets and events.

House Facts
The famous 18th Century poet Percy Bysshe Shelley owned the house but perhaps of more interest, the garden boasts the tallest tree in the area, a 30m Wellingtonia planted in the 1850s alongside a Cedar tree.

12 of us stayed for a long weekend in this wonderful property. It is equipped to the highest standard with a magnificent kitchen (island / Aga etc.) super airy bedrooms, plenty of casual seating in several rooms, a fully equipped games room (darts, table tennis, karaoke, dancing) and a pool / snooker table. Outside is a large and beautiful garden with (warm!) heated swimming pool, a hard tennis court and extensive gardens with two croquet lawns and a (non-gas) BBQ. Further afield we had lovely long walks in the country near-by, seeing several deer and lots of bird life. The house had a big indoor dining table and also one outside for fine-weather dining. It was completely as advertised - perfect. The Long House is very peaceful, being set in a large area of countryside (mostly forestry and farmland), near Cowfold in Sussex, about a 10 minute drive away from a small supermarket. Horsham is not far away if a full shop is required. The staff were friendly, punctual, helpful, organised and efficient. We all had a great time and immediately decided to go back again next year. We are already looking forward to it.

We had a lovely long weekend celebrating 75th/80th birthdays and The Long House was the perfect location for both young and old guests. Lovely walks. Plenty of games to play and a great location for indoor or outdoor dinner parties. Local caterer, Laron Solomon, produced a wonderful 3 course meal for the Saturday night. Perfect whatever the weather. Thank you so much Jo and Pippa

The Longhouse is amazing. I unreservedly recommended it highly for large groups. The price is very reasonable and the communication with the owner, Pippa, administrator, Lorraine and the manager, Jo is second to none. Very swift responses to queries and generally very helpful indeed. As for the house and grounds - they are amazing, grand without being pretentious. The photos do not do it justice. I echo everything said in the previous glowing reviews. We were there as a family group of 20, 10 adults and 10 children ranging from 10months to 11 years. The accommodation is fabulous and we were able to give each couple their own bathroom and most of the children too. They all felt very special in their own space. The kitchen is very well equipped and the downstairs space is perfect. We had one catered meal from Clare at Party Pantries and that was superb. We were all spoilt for choice for activities - croquet, tennis, rounders and the swimming pool was fabulous - beautifully warm with some pool toys. Inside - plenty of board games, darts, table tennis, roulette plus the TV room with lots of CD Films. The kids playroom was fantastic - jigsaws, soft toys, colouring materials - the younger children and babies were in seventh heaven. What more did we need.? The location was peaceful just a few miles from Cowfold for extra provisions. We went on a lovely 4.5km walk from the house which was fun. We could have visited nearby sights but were more than happy with being all together at the house. We all kept fit looking for each other in the huge space but it was worth it for all it gave back to us. We were given a photo shoot for our birthday and the photos are stunning with the Longhouse as a backdrop. We all hope to return again one day and our huge thanks go to everyone concerned in offering the Longhouse for our pure enjoyment. We have made unparalleled memories

We had such a lovely stay at the Long House as a large family group plus groom’s party for a family wedding which was taking place close by. It is the most beautiful, comfortable and relaxed house and all the guests thoroughly enjoyed their stay. It was perfect to be able to offer all our guests their own bathroom to get ready for the wedding. We were a party of 13 plus two small children and the house didn’t feel crowded at all. The kitchen is situated right in the centre of the house and provided a great hub to get together. We had several large dinners and the house is so well equipped to do this easily. The gardens are lovely and we even managed to walk in between the showers!

We organised a family of 22, including 2 babies and a toddler, to stay for the weekend at the Long House. It was a truly amazing house which gave everyone from the range of ages, 6 months to 80, something to do, see or spend family time together, whether inside or out! Communication with those who own/manage the house was exceptional too. The quality of linen and towels was 5*. We can’t speak more highly of the experience the Long House gave us and hope to return one day.

We have had the most amazing stay at The Long House. There were 21 of us and a baby, yet we had so much space in the house we just lost each other! The weather was very rainy but we did some lovely walks from the house to the local pubs, There was plenty of wood for the lovely open fires and the owners had thought of everything. We all travelled so far from all over the world to be together as a family for the New Year and we all have so many good memories from our week stay at The Long House. Thank you so much to the whole team involved, very impressed.

We have just enjoyed a most wonderful weekend at The Long House. We were an intergenerational group of 17 adults and 9 children ranging from 8 years old to 9 months and there was something for everyone. The play room and outdoor playhouse were a huge bonus for the children and the pool table, games/party room were a big hit with the adults. We all said we must return in the summer so we can use the pool. There are chill out spaces for everyone from the formal lounge with its historical ambience and log fire, to the TV room with comfy chairs and 100s of DVDs to watch. The communication with Pippa, Lorraine and Jo was excellent and the house was set up just as we had requested with extra beds for the children. The kitchen is very well equipped and everything we needed was there. The gardens and surrounding areas are beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the local environment. We had a catered meal on the Saturday evening from Clare at Party Pantries which was wonderful and a delicious Sunday lunch at The Bolney Stage. I highly recommend The Long House as a perfect place for any large group. We will definitely be back!!

The house and grounds are beautiful. There is so much to do around the house, tennis, table tennis, a great quality pool table, croquet and swimming. Really can’t fault the place. And such great communication from Pippa, Jo and Lorraine made organising it a breeze.

WOW…. What an amazing house, we had a brilliant time. There was 17 of us aged from late 60’s to 7 years and there was plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing if they wanted too, and plenty of big tables to all gather round for family time together. The house has everything you could possibly need. All towels and bedding was lovely and clean and there was baskets of towels for the pool area also, which was a bonus. Weather was mostly good but the times we did have some rain there was plenty to keep everyone occupied in the house or out and about visiting local attractions. We had one minor problem and Jo was brilliant, she came out to us on a Sunday evening to sort the problem out…. Thank you. Communication with Pippa, Lorraine and Jo was excellent throughout the whole booking process. Would definitely recommend this lovely old house for anyone who wants to spend time with friends and family, you won’t be disappointed. We all loved our stay and was sad to leave ☺️ Thank you Pippa, Jo and Lorraine for making our family holiday perfect

A stunning Grade 2 Listed House that surpassed our expectations. Incredibly well equipped with sporting and leisure facilities. The house has a superbly equipped kitchen with an Aga and literally dozens of glasses and flatware. The staff are helpful and very welcoming. We had a wonderful weekend and our children and particularly grandchildren had an outstanding time. Long House was a tremendous success and we recommend it highly for larger get together.

What a fabulous historic house this is. Situated in lovely countryside with great walks from the house. A peaceful location which has large private gardens. Plenty of room for many guests. We had a party of 21 and the house felt very spacious for this number of guests. Excellent range of sporting / leisure facilities in the house and grounds for active members and scenic quiet locations also for some time out and relaxing! All well organised with helpful and friendly owner and manager.

Difficult to find fault with The Long House. Truly beautiful and historic house, set in extensive grounds. Very spacious and comfortable bedrooms, two dining tables, one inside and one out, each able to accommodate at least 20 people in comfort, and a fantastically well equipped kitchen. Excellent local caterers provide superb meals, and the well-maintained swimming pool is a huge hit with children.

We just had our wedding at Long House and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Not only did the house and the grounds look completely idyllic on the day - but the house itself is so lovely and comfortable. It was completely the perfect mix between an incredible place to bring our guests and a lovely retreat for us both in the run up and after the wedding. Thank you so much for having us! Pippa, Jo and Lorraine went out of their way to help us and accommodate what we wanted on our day. I hope we can come back for our anniversary (every year?!). Thanks again, Tallulah & Nat

What a wonderful house. We stayed as a large family group for my parents 60th wedding anniversary and it was perfect. The grounds were beautiful in March and we spent the days playing tennis, snooker, croquet and table tennis. The kitchen was perfect with plenty of space and everything you could possibly need. The large tables for eating at were great for our large group and we ate both inside and out. We definitely hope to come again.

Wow! We have just returned from a fantastic weekend spent with extended family in this amazing house. It was a very comfortable stay with excellent amenities and an extremely well equipped kitchen. It is very spacious and has a beautiful room complete with log fire. The grounds are lovely and the tennis court was well used. Pippa and Jo communicated really well at every stage of the booking/checking in process and Pippa was really prompt at answering any questions. The catering company she recommended is worth every penny as we barely noticed they were there and when we left the table the kitchen was already immaculate. I would definitely recommend this house as a place to stay with a large group of people.

Fabulous stay for a friends 40th. Amazing grounds and the house incredible so much to do for adults and children. Tennis, croquet, table tennis a swimming pool to name a few. We had a fabulous stay could not have asked for more even a play room for the kids although my little boy was to busy exploring the house. Highly recommend
Laura
A big group of us stayed for birthday celebrations and the house worked amazingly well for both the adults and kids. The pool table, table tennis, croquet and tennis were all used a lot and it was great to have so much equipment available for us all to have a go. Bedrooms are lovely and we really enjoyed the big kitchen right at the heart of the house. Also great to have such a big dining table that could seat everyone - quite hard to find in big houses. The pool was a bit too cold to use but we were visiting in October.

I spent the weekend here celebrating my 40th with close friends. As soon as we arrived we were amazed at this beautiful big house, the grounds are stunning too with tennis court, croquet and gorgeous walks exploring the gardens. So much space for all 20 of us including children. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. We are already planning the next celebration to come back and stay!

I have just spent my 60th Birthday at the Long House with family and friends. It was magical and just an ideal location. The amenities were fantastic especially the heated pool. Plenty of room to spread out or be together. Pippa (the owner) and Jo ( the house manager) could not do enough to ensure our stay met our requirements and more, both before and during the weekend. The history of the house was interesting and I felt like lady of the manor for the weekend. Very sad to leave and hope to be able to return before too long.

I hired this house for a large group to stay for my 30th and wow what a wonderful and magical house it was! We were all in awe of the magnitude and grandeur of this wonderful house! The photos really do not do it justice. The original character of the house has been kept whilst also modernising the key elements. It had everything we needed to entertain 24 guests for the weekend; from tennis courts, to the heated pool to a large selection of DVDs to watch whilst snuggled up in the TV room. All the rooms were very comfortable and had lots of space for people to stay. Not to mention the kitchen was a dream to cook for a large group In. Pippa and Jo were super helpful in making sure our stay was comfortable and organised. I hope to return to this special house again one day.

Unbelievable house and perfect for large groups and gatherings. The house itself is amazing and the area surrounding it is even better. There is plenty of things to do to keep guests entertained such as the pool table, table tennis, darts, tennis & swimming in the pool. On top of this great value for money and Pippa / Jo maintained excellent communication before and throughout our stay to ensure that any queries were answered swiftly.
Emma
What a fabulous place! The house is in a wonderfully peaceful countryside setting. Pippa and Jo couldn't have been more helpful leading up to and during our stay. The flexibility of the accommodation (in particular the dinning areas, pool, and pool room) are stand-out features of this brilliant property. We all had an incredible stay and hopefully will be back!

Staying at the Long House is like having a beautiful country hotel all to yourself. The house is amazing, full of character but with all modern conveniences. The setting is idyllic, the gardens are so peaceful and relaxing. It was the perfect start to the day having breakfast in the walled garden and a bbq in the evening with so much space to all socialise together. We were celebrating my husband’s 50th Birthday and there were 4 families, 14 of us all together (8 adults, 6 teenagers) and there was something for everyone. There was loads do - a beautifully warm swimming pool, darts, table tennis, pool, gorgeous walks in the grounds and beyond, and so much room for people to either all be together or do their own thing. Jo (manager) and Pippa (owner) are lovely, they were available beforehand and during our stay to answer any queries and the house is beautifully clean and well maintained. The photos cannot do justice to how amazing this estate is, we loved everything about it!

Delicious food and friendly staff. I had a pot of tea, and my only suggestion would be please serve the milk in something with a lip or spout so it's easier to pour. Other than that, absolutely fantastic! I had the scrambled tofu, and portion sizes were big.

This cafe is great for vegan/veggies and the breakfast is simply delicious ! Staff are lovely and the coffee and tea is divine. Highly recommended.

Update: Oat milk Latè £2.90 (2nd highest price in Brighton) small cup with no handle, saucer or spoon, so when I asked for brown sugar I have to use the tiny spoon in the jar and place it on the lid or table making a mess, if there was a saucer with it's own spoon it would be ok, so it was a bit hot to hold from the edges so consider frail people with disabilities. The coffee was very nice. Vegan Breakfast was very good apart from the tasteless tomatoes I didn't eat. Pricing was a tad unclear and a bit misleading (not staffs fault im sure) it was £7.90 but looking at the board it looks like £7.0 as they don't put the 0 after the 9 and the 9 was right next to a line on the board £7.9 when £7.90p makes it clear, nice staff, great cheff, Tofu never tasted so good, Mushrooms, Avocado with seeds n spices was nice, sour dough was a bit tough to cut but was a nice change.

Went in for a tasty vegan brunch on a Friday. The staff was lovely and the vibe was welcoming and laid back. The full breakfast scrambled tofu and garlic mushrooms were great. And the smokey beans on toast were hearty and delicious. Finally - the mango turmeric smoothie was excellent - definitely recommend. Well worth a visit!

My friend and I got the tomato and pesto on sourdough and avocado on gluten free toast respectively and they were both really on point and delicious! The kombucha tasted really natural and gut friendly too! So impressed! Staff were really friendly and lovely too. Definitely hope to be back :)

We cannot thank Pippa, Lorraine and Jo enough for a seemless and helpful booking and checking in/out process. Every question answered and everything you could possibly ask for was provided. 19 of us have just spent the most amazing weekend at the Long House for a family 60th birthday celebration. There was plenty for everyone of ... every age to do, pool, darts, table tennis, tennis, swimming plus ample and beautiful gardens for additional games. The house catered for everyone, with large rooms to all get together in where we hosted musicians to entertain our guests. Smaller little snugs and lounges meant everyone could have there own space and time out when they wanted to and the playroom was great for my niece's to chill out in. The bedrooms had everything you needed, comfortable beds, towels and toiletries were an unexpected but appreciated addition. Pool towels were provided and a laundry room meant we had somewhere to dry wet swimming kit. The kitchen really does have everything you can think of including those essentials like washing up liquid, foil and clingfilm, salt and pepper etc. Ample crockery, cutlery and glassware, and fortunately two dishwashers! It is safe to say that we had an amazing weekend and would not hesitate to book the Long House in the future.

As a large family of 16 adults, 4 children and a baby we have just had a wonderful week's holiday and would love to revisit. From the moment we set foot inside, we were very excited to be staying in this lovely, spacious and beautiful house. The kitchen is very well- equipped, the ... beds are comfy and there are indoor and outdoor dining tables with plenty of room for all of us. The tap room is a super space, tons of room for games and dancing. The outdoor areas are well-kept, plenty of lawns for all the sporting activities we had planned and lovely walks possible through fields and woods. The swimming pool is warm, and was very well used daily. We enjoyed the pool table room, the sunny, peaceful morning room and the 8 year old and baby loved the playroom. Although the lounge was hardly used, I can imagine it would be lovely on cold days with the fire burning. The 10 bedrooms gave us all plenty of privacy and are so lovely, everyone was delighted. We only had 2 minor problems and each time Jo came straight away. You would certainly not be disappointed if you stayed at the Long House.
