About The Long House
With one end built in the 16th century and the other in the early 18th century, The Long House got its name for a reason and offers plenty of charm and character for special event or bring family and friends together.
The house sleeps up to 21 guests in its 10 bedrooms with 7 bathrooms comprising seven king-size doubles, two twins and one triple (the house can also arrange extra beds to add to some of the double rooms on request). There is also a comfortable sofa bed in the private morning room on the ground floor.
Downstairs is a large, practical kitchen including a breakfast table that adjoins a light conservatory dining room that can comfortably seat 22 guests. There’s also a large room at the end of the house (available from May) perfect for larger banquets and events.
The house also has a formal drawing room plus a more relaxed sitting room, both of which have beautiful open fires along with a “playroom” perfect for the children. The house has Wi-Fi, but it’s not a high-speed connection, so would recommend downloading your chosen films in advance.
Outside are 5 acres of grounds, with two walled gardens (complete with croquet), a swimming pool, a large lawn overlooking a pond and a tennis court. There’s even a Wendy House tucked in a corner of the garden for the children.
The house is currently accepting bookings for smaller groups of one household bubble in line with the current Government Covid guidance until 17th May.
From May 22nd onwards, full bookings are being accepted in anticipation of a relaxation of the rules and will adhere to the Landed Houses COVID refund policies if necessary.
Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“One of my favourite features at The Long House has to be the swimming pool. With its large stone pillars covered with foliage, it offers some privacy to the pool whilst adding some real architectural detail and flare.”

Things to do
The Long House has some beautiful local attractions such as Leonardslee Gardens and National Trust properties to take a gentle walk through.
Alternatively, you can head over to Brighton for the ultimate day out with its famous sea front and Pavilion.
There are plenty of children-friendly options too, like the Bluebell Railway and the Wealden Down museum. Sussex boasts some of the UK’s finest vineyards, and Bolney Wine Estate is just 3 miles from the house. For those who don’t wish to move at all, bbq by the pool, or take a picnic into the woods (private access on request).
The Long House is an ideal setting for weddings, and the flat lawns in the walled gardens lend themselves to marquees. The house can provide a list of recommended suppliers who have worked in the house and grounds before, and the house itself has a large indoor room that can comfortably dine 60 guests.
