Stow Manor is a great vacation home carefully restored from its original use as the Estate Manager’s house. The property is on the famous Stowlangtoft Estate and has nine well-designed bedrooms that can sleep up to 18 people. Six sofa beds can accommodate six more people, for a total of 24 guests.

The main house has seven big bedrooms, three of which are twin rooms, three are king-size doubles, and one is a double. Every room has its own bathroom or shower. The Gardener’s Cottage next door has two more bedrooms, a twin and a double, each with its own bathroom.

There are great places to entertain on the property, such as a big, modern kitchen, a garden room with a beautiful lantern roof light, and a dining room that can fit up to 24 people. You can cook for more people in a second kitchen. The social areas have a big living room with a Sky TV, a cosy wood-burning stove, a separate games room with a snooker table, and a football pitch nearby.

The other outdoor spaces are just as nice, with a tennis court, a fancy hot tub on the terrace, and two acres of private gardens. Guests can also walk around the huge Stowlangtoft Estate, which has over 1,000 acres of woods and fields with paths. It’s a great place to explore and do things outside.

Location and Things to Do

The Stowlangtoft Estate is located just a ten-minute drive from Bury St Edmunds, a charming market town with a rich history and a main-line train station offering services that connect directly to London in just under two hours. The estate itself provides plenty of scenic walks and a selection of local pubs, perfect for those looking to relax and enjoy the countryside. For those seeking more to explore, Bury St Edmunds is a must-visit, known for its stunning cathedral and the ruins of a medieval abbey.

The town holds historical significance as the site of England’s original patron saint, St Edmund, and once served as one of Europe’s wealthiest pilgrimage destinations. Today, it’s a thriving food lover’s haven, hosting popular food festivals in the beautiful Abbey gardens. The East Coast is just over an hour’s drive away, and the area is also rich in National Trust properties and parks, including the nearby Ickworth House, providing visitors with numerous opportunities for further exploration.

Weddings

Stow Manor provides an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere for a memorable wedding celebration. The expansive grounds, including private gardens and the surrounding Stowlangtoft Estate, offer numerous possibilities for outdoor ceremonies and receptions. The manor’s spacious interiors, with ample dining areas and modern kitchen facilities, make it a perfect setting for hosting large wedding parties.

Guests can enjoy a variety of activities, from games on the tennis court to relaxing by the fire-pit, while the luxurious hot tub offers a perfect way to unwind after a long day. With its charming setting and capacity for up to 24 guests in the manor, or even more with additional estate accommodations, Stow Manor provides an unforgettable venue for a countryside wedding.

House Fact

Stow Manor dates back to the 18th Century when it was first used as the home and office for the Estate Manager for Stowlangtoft Estate. Latterly, Stow Manor was utilised as a dowager house to the central estate property, the magnificent 100 room Stowlangtoft Hall.

Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“The Stowlangtoft Estate itself is pretty special. The family who own it are determined to follow farming with conservation principles, so have created acres of new woodland and spaces for wildlife. All makes for a great environment in which to relax, recharge and have a bit of fun.”

We hired the manor for a hen party and it was the perfect venue! We had a large party of 24 in the end and it comfortably slept all of us. There was a lot of space, it was all really well kept, and they also have a list of recommended vendors. You felt really out the way and in the countryside. There are two kitchens if you need extra catering space. We all had an amazing time. My only critique is that it would have been good to have more info on where we could hang decorations eg locations of hooks and how many etc as we just had to take decorations and hope for the best. Luckily there are hooks in the dinning/snug area.

Just had a weekend break for a friends birthday and also stayed earlier in the year for our daughter’s hen party. Stow manor is absolutely beautiful and spotlessly clean. There were 20 of us on both occasions and there is so much space for every one. Also there is an abundance of cutlery, plates, glasses etc which have been lacking in many large holiday lets we have used before. There are many wonderful walks in the area and the hot tub is a big plus after a wet long walk !! Would not hesitate to book again. We are already talking about booking again for next year. Thank you to all the team that clean and maintain the house and grounds.

Had a exceptionally good long long stay in the cottages whilst our bungalow was being repaired after water damage. Everyone could not have been more helpful. Thanks Gill and Ken Chalk

I booked the coach house on behalf of some colleagues who were due to be working in the area. The price was reasonable and it was a very last minute booking, but Roger was very very helpful. Unfortunately a few days before my colleagues were due to arrive they got notified they had to self isolate. I told Roger this, and he tried to accommodate us later on in the month. Unfortunately we were unable to do the other dates, so Roger arranged a full refund (which arrived very soon after). This was a very kind gesture as it was very short notice before, but he was very understanding. The accommodation and area looks lovely, we hope to book it again in the future!
