There’s been a house at Stainsborough since the 1700s. It’s undergone a number of changes since then, but we’ve got a comprehensive history of the house and the people that have lived there for anyone that is interested in history.
“This is a very light and happy house, it makes the most of the sun all year round, and is a lovely place to come back to, after a day exploring the lakes and hills.”

On the plus side there were some lovely touches with three cottage being decorated for Halloween. And the site is ideally situated for this party of the Peak District. However, it should be made clear that the beds are 2ft6 beds, not proper singles. We booked a cottage with two king beds, but got two twins instead. The cottages are tiny and the kitchens not at all well equipped. The detachable shower head didn’t work and the water pressure was poor with a single boiler servicing all cottages. The games room is simply a shed with a table tennis table in which is unheated and unlit so can’t be used after dark. The cottages are incredibly overpriced. We’ve stayed in loads of self catering properties across the UK, and stayed in much nicer places at the same time of the year for half the price in much more popular and expensive parts of the country. We won’t be staying again and wouldn’t recommend to others.

Great place in the beautiful area. They have a play room, tennis court. Big lake near by. Plenty routes if you like to hiking. Cottage fully equipped! Dogs friendly. We travel all the way from London and didn’t regret! Owner is a great and friendly person.

If you are looking for a beautiful country side getaway that’s the place. Peaceful and pure nature. Very close to many spots that the peak district has to offer. The cottages are very well equipped and it feels like home. The owners seem to put a lot of love into this place. Definitely yes for me I will be back.

We stayed in the main house for a get together before our son’s wedding and everything was amazing. If you need to book somewhere for a large gathering then you cannot beat this house. We would highly recommend this.

Lovely little get away, and a gem find for accommodation. It has everything you need to enjoy some time away. So close to Carsington water if you enjoy walking, running and taking beautiful pictures! Lots of walks, and activities close by! The hosts were always available if needed. Thankyou.

We had a wonderful stay for a family party and rented out all of the cottages. The new communal kitchen and large room was perfect for us all to gather and eat. Everyone loved their cottage, and everything you need is provided. Would highly recommended for a break away

We had the most amazing time here as a group of 20 people.
The house is perfectly suited for everyone to entertain themselves and also socialise.
The surroundings are dreamy, kitchen is perfectly stocked with everything you need.
Thanks a lot to the Stainsborough team for hosting us!!

Cannot recommend Stainsborough Hall enough! It’s a lovely house and fitted x17 of us very comfortably. I’ve been to a few large houses with big groups and this is by far my favourite, I will definitely come back again if I can in the future.
The setting is great. You can do a lovely country walk to Wirksworth and the hill/field views from the house are beautiful.
Joanne & Tim were really helpful, answering all my questions in the lead up to the booking and then checking in via WhatsApp during the stay. They have a very useful portal which was extremely detailed too, which helped me plan for the weekend as well

Absolutely faultless. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay there for a weekend in April. The rooms were beautifully presented (I always appreciate the nice touches like the complimentary coffee pods) Very welcoming and accommodating hosts. Was the perfect base for exploring the Peak District. Would very happily go back.

This was my first visit to Stainsborough Hall and it was organised a year ago with friends for my birthday. I thought it almost wouldn’t happen as we had a few drops out but we rallied and kept the Easter dates.
The place was far more beautiful than I imagined, the rooms spacious with stunning views. My friends and I enjoyed the tranquility of the hall and there was an adventure of the 12km walk. I felt I was in a modern stately home.
Tim and Joanne were communicative, friendly, accommodating; and kindly left some Easter eggs. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a long weekend or week away.
Thank you for one of the best birthday gatherings experienced!

Just home from a wonderful stay at Stainsborough Cottages. We were a family of 21 adults looking for a weekend to celebrate some birthdays within our group. The hiring of the cottages was ideal for us, particularly because that included use of a second room which could fit us all comfortably for dinner and socialising. The cottages themselves were modern and clean, and came fully equipped with everyone we needed. The location is great, with easy access to Carsington Water and pubs all within a short drive. The information supplied by Joanne and Tim before our stay was really useful, helping us to pick caterers and a pub for meals.

Gorgeous cottages and lovely host. A nice pub is a short 20 mins walk away and the surroundings a perfect for a large group with kids and dogs! Would definitely recommend

We (16 adults, 3 children and 3 dogs) had a great weekend staying in the cottages with use of the communal area. The cottages were lovely, location beautiful and owners were really helpful. We couldn’t recommend enough for large groups and the secure garden was fantastic for dogs. Thank you!

Cottage was beautiful inside & out very clean & had everything we needed for a lovely weekend away, the hosts couldn’t have been anymore friendly & helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
Huw Bostock
The cottage was excellent for me and my family, our two dogs were made very welcome too.
Everything was spotlessly clean.
The hosts were fantastic and couldn’t have been more accommodating.
We will definitely be staying again.

A fantastic stay for a long weekend. The cottage was immaculate and very modern. Set within the beautiful grounds of the hall. Excellent location for dog walking as a 2 minute (if that) walk away from carsington water. Great communication from host throughout, received a website link after booking with all the information you could possibly need. Some lovely pubs close by also some are a short drive away. Can’t wait to go back!!!
Hazel Wilkinson
Fantastic house, with brilliant facilities (tennis court, pool table, ping pong room), beautiful rooms and in a gorgeous rural location close to pretty walks and nice pubs. Have been twice and will definitely go again.
Deborah Walsh
We were a family group of 19 stopping in the Hall. The facilities were fabulous and all of the 10 bedrooms were perfect. We had great fun using the tennis courts, ping pong room along with the pool room, with many fun competitions taking place. We preordered use of the hot tub and this was ready and waiting for us to enjoy on our arrival. James was also on hand to help with anything we needed during our stay. The Hall is also a great spot to start, and enjoy a fabulous walk around Carsington Water. Although too cold to sit out this time of year, we all commented on how fabulous it would be to use the outdoor eating area in the summer, enjoying the fabulous views. We would all recommend a visit to this wonderful venue. Thank you Joanne and Tim for making such a fabulous holiday home.

I booked the Hall and two cottages for a family weekend at the end of October. There we 28 of us aged from 2 years old up to 71. The house and cottages were stunning in a beautiful location. All were well equipped with plenty of crockery (beautiful Denby), cutlery, glasses, pans, coffee machines, etc. Everything you could need for the weekend. The milk, eggs and tea/coffee was a lovely touch.
Plenty of bathrooms, showers and toilets all decorated beautifully. Properties were nice and warm. Loved the hot tub and would recommend having it. Games, jigsaws, gamed room and pool table were a great addition.
The on site staff were amazing. Nothing too much trouble and any issues were resolved quickly. We had an outside caterer and had absolutely no issues.
All in all a fabulous place for any large gathering, friends or family and would definitely recommend.

We needed a large venue for my extended family to stay whilst my daughter got married at Haarlem Mill. Stainsborough Hall was the perfect choice as was Haarlem Mill.

I stayed at Stainsbrough hall (the main house) for my hen do weekend and I wasn’t quite prepared for how amazing this house was going to be. Every room was spotless and the facilities that came with the house were brilliant too like the hot tub, the tennis courts and the amazing outside seating area where we spent most of our time. I can’t boast about this place enough it’s incredible, it was such a pleasurable stay. thankyou so much!!!

Six of us had a weekend mini-holiday for our parents’ birthday weekend and we loved our stay at in Dovedale cottage at Stainsborough Hall! The cottage was well-equipped and the team were on hand to welcome us and chat to us in person if we had any questions or needed anything. The surroundings are beautiful and a lot of helpful information and suggestions of things to do were provided.

Absolutely awesome. Clean, tidy, great facilities, wonderful view from the sitting area, games room is excellent and there are some great walks.
Ismayil J
Lovely and peaceful place, well maintained area, large kitchen, hot tub, beautiful walking paths around (with lake views). No complaints, electricity, hot water, everything was ok. Caretakers are always available to help, internet was down, they could fix it in no time bringing a starlink receiver!
Gabriella Chubb
We had the most gorgeous stay at stainsbrough hall and also rented one of the cottages. The location was beautiful and easily one of the best places we had ever stayed. We hosted a hen do there and it was perfect – the space gave us the ability to play games in the dining room, have a dance class in the garden and also pop over to carsington water which is close by for some water sports. The hosts were on hand if we had any questions or needed anything and overall it was just a perfect stay!
Chris Shone
Beautiful cottages in a lovely setting. Everything you need for a weekend away. Games room on the grounds was a big hit with all ages.
Nathan Jarrold
What a beautiful well thought out cottage. A home from home. Beautiful location with views of the surrounding countryside. A short walk from the back garden through the Fields to a beautiful pub/restaurant the Miners Arms a must stop for great food. Also a lovely treat as welcoming a delicious Bakewell pudding. We will definitely be returning.

This is a great location for a large group to share time together. We had a family reunion there in May 2022, We booked up all the cottages . The facilities are very good and the cottages are immaculately clean and well equipped for normal stuff as well as barbeques and outdoor living. Dogs are welcome and plenty of walks available. The games room is good as there is enough space to get a group in under cover if it rains. Tennis court on site and equipment provided for free. The location is great, right smack bang in the middle of England so easy for access to all. Highly recommended

Recently stayed here for my birthday weekend celebration and everything was immaculate. Joanne and Tim went all out with the decor and ensured that all guests had an enjoyable time. The Hall has everything you could ever need during your stay and it even snowed during our visit! The location, the hosts, and the range of local activities was amazing.
Perfect all around! Will definitely come again and cannot recommend it enough to anyone looking to stay here!!
Zoe Short
Had a wonderful stay in two of the cottages over Christmas (summer and the one next door). The cottages were, warm, clean and very cozy, a home away from home. The staff were very helpful and checked in Mitch us to ensure we had everything we needed. They were quick to respond to queries and there was a lovely welcome basket with wine when we arrived! The grounds were lovely, and the surrounding countryside were beautiful- despite the fog we had for all but one day! I’d definitely stay here again.
Emma Hirst
A perfect weekend break but you could spend much longer here. The kids loved table tennis the playpark and tennis. One of the most dog friendly places we have stayed our 4 dogs loved the fields to run in and plenty of space in the cottage. Very clean and high quality instead. Very warm log burner and under floor heating a real treat. Thank you Emma and Steve Mills
Sally cole
Had a lovely few days in summer cottage. Fantastic accommodation in a spectacular countryside, easy access to lots of beautiful walks. Tim and Joanne were very welcoming and gave us some great suggestions for local pubs. Dogs were made to feel welcome also

We held our wedding celebrations at Stainsborough Hall and had an absolute ball. Joanne, Tim and Dave couldn’t do more for us.
Communication with Joanne was really efficient beforehand and she supported us to ensure everything ran smoothly with our plans for the event, including our external mobile caterers (Pizza Pi in Chesterfield – 5*).
The house and grounds at Stainsborough Hall are just stunning. The kitchen has everything you need, the house is immaculate and beautifully finished. The sitting rooms and games room are a great addition with well-tuned piano and pool table and the hot tub is always ready for action!
We were lucky to have stunning weather in mid-September which only showed off the wonderful gardens and surrounding countryside. The outside dining area is the perfect spot to watch the sunset and enjoy drinks with family and friends.
Tim and Dave were on-hand throughout our stay and joined us for a glass to celebrate – you couldn’t wish for more supportive, generous and fun hosts.
So many wonderful memories were created at Stainsborough Hall, our family is still talking about what a fantastic time was had, we could not recommend it more highly. Thank you Joanne, Tim and Dave xxx

Stainsborough Hall is a fabulous place to stay. We were lucky enough to stay in the main house which is gorgeous. Well equipped kitchen, two sitting rooms, games room, masses of room even for a large party. The grounds are gorgeous and the views breathtaking. Tim and Joanne are great hosts, always ready to help. They really want you to have a good time! We loved our stay and are looking forward to returning. Thank you!
