Sparkford Hall is an impressive Georgian mansion in Somerset that was carefully restored from bedsits into a comfortable home in 2012 to combine the elegance of the past with the practicality of modern celebrations.

The main house has 12 large bedrooms and can sleep up to 28 people. Six of the bedrooms have their own bathrooms and some rooms can be split into twins if required. The adjacent Gardeners Cottage has room for eight more guests, giving larger groups more options.

The house has big reception rooms that are great for relaxing and having fun. These include a beautiful salon, a library, and a huge kitchen with a breakfast table. The dining area is large enough for all the house’s occupants to sit together. The estate has 18 acres of gardens, parkland, and farmland, including terraces, lawns, and a walled garden. The outdoor swimming pool is a big draw, and the basement can become a custom club night space for parties.

For larger events the rustic function barn can be utilised and is often takes the place of a marquee.

Great care has been taken throughout the estate to preserve original features while ensuring that the house can be used confidently as a venue.

House Fact

Sparkford Hall is Georgian and was finished around 1840, but incorporates elements of an earlier building. It was built by Henry Bennett, who was the Rector of Sparkford for 38 years. The house is large and elegant, designed with the typical generosity of the era, and the reception rooms and bedrooms alike are large and light-filled.

Edmund's Favourite Feature

“Perhaps one of the best things about Sparkford Hall is its privacy. The village is quite some distance away, and there are very few neighbours within party-earshot. Anyone wishing to set-to with a whistle and neon tutu, can do so in complete secret.”

I was fortunate enough to have photographed a wedding here recently and I can say I loved this venue, the staff were friendly and very accommodating. The grounds are perfect for a country backdrop, great bars for a party and nice clean rooms. Plenty of parking also. WHOISBENJAMIN PHOTOGRAPHER – 35mm film & digital.

We had our May wedding here and it was everything we wanted. We were allowed to plan the day to be exactly as we envisioned. Vince the house manager was so helpful in bringing everything together and kept us reassured through the whole process. It was just fab to be able to have the house and grounds to ourselves for the whole weekend. The bar staff were lovely and kept our day running smoothly. If you want to take control of your day down to the food, alcohol and your style then this is a perfect place for you. Also if you want a good party this can cater for all options! Would highly recommend, thanks for making our day so epic! Lis and Jay

We booked Sparkford Hall for our son’s 21st in January 2025 and we had the most fantastic time (everything we could have wished for and more). Everyone we liaised with prior to the night were so welcoming and helpful. There were 52 of us and there was plenty of room for pre-dinner drinks in the Hallway before all sitting down for dinner in the dining room/drawing room. We then danced the night away in their nightclub. A night to remember. Thank you.

An amazing experience for my sister’s hen weekend, the staff were incredibly helpful and the house stunning! It was the perfect mix between being a relaxed country weekend away with the ability to party in the basement in the evening. Would recommend to all, thanks to all the team 🙂

We stayed for three days—a fab place. James & Vince were so friendly and highly recommended.

Stayed here with some friends to celebrate my 40th in December. The house is even better than I was imagining from the photos. It has a really homely, spacious, warm feel and is full of character. Everyone had huge smiles on their faces from the moment they arrived!

I didn’t get a chance to meet James in person unfortunately, but I did speak to him on the phone and he was super friendly and helpful.

Kyle was wonderful – professional and helpful throughout, he somehow managed to find a caterer at a week’s notice for one of our meals! Had a good chat with him at the event – super lovely guy!

Last but not least – the basement club. As an electronic music lover I wanted music to be a focus of my celebrations – and this place is incredible. James kindly liaised with the engineer providing the sound system and allowed it to be set up before I arrived and collected after we had left. Calling it a cellar doesn’t do it justice – it has its own unique vibe which is very cool!

Had one of the best weekends of my life, and I don’t think there would have been another venue where it would have been possible! Huge thanks to James, Kyle and crew

Took the Hall and Barn for join birthday celebrations, mine and my son’s 18th. Plenty of rooms for all family and my son’s friends to stay. The house is a good party house, comfortable and ‘lived in’ so you don’t feel you have to ultra careful. Well equipped with cutlery, plates etc. The barn is large and takes a lot to decorate well, would take a bit to heat, we were lucky with the weather as mild October! Overall a good place for a family and party!

Amazing property, would definitely return! Held a 20 person event at Sparkford Hall for 2 nights, all participants enjoyed their stay! The amenities were perfect and the staff were absolutely first class! Special thank you to the wonderful property manager Vincent, who exceeded our expectations during our time at Sparkford Hall.

Have visited this venue numerous times for a variety of different events—the house and its grounds are absolutely beautiful, with comfortable and quiet, bedrooms and luxurious ensuites (multiple freestanding bathtubs!).

We’ve always had a great experience partying here—making liberal use of the sauna, pool and basement for loud DJ sets with no issue. Where we’ve caused damage, the owner communicated well with us to resolve and charged us fairly for repairs (including repainting, replacing glassware, etc.)

Simon Edwards

An absolutely incredible venue that we’ve used for a variety of different events. The house itself is beautiful and spacious; with many different rooms we’ve repurposed into accommodation and entertainment spaces. The location is good; with good train access from London, and an easy drive from Bristol. The staff though are particularly great; assisting with our extensive varied requests and negotiating sensibly about our particularly ambitious ideas.

The bathroom to bedroom ratio is good, and some bedrooms include their own en suite. There is also a smaller cottage which is good accommodation for those who may like to retire early.

All in all, a great venue for events, getting together with friends, and weddings.

Theo Saville

Phenomenal and beautiful venue, I’ve been running retreats and events here for years and will for many more.

House layout and grounds are ideal for a retreat, wedding or overnight event. Can comfortably sleep >30.

Well equipped kitchen with aga, professional range, and many fridge-freezers, can comfortably feed >60.

Large events spaces, we’ve seated 60 for dinner in the great hall with half the room spare.

Very thick walls with great noise insulation, and basement club is good for DJ sets. Sound does not penetrate to the bedrooms.

The owner and groundskeeper are an absolute pleasure to work with. We’ve broken a lot of stuff over the years, from glasses to sauna benches, and have never been over-charged. We’ve always had our deposit back quickly.

Pool and sauna are a great bonus. Very large and very pleasant grounds with a massive array of walks and things to do in the local area. Great museums

Kelly Christie

We got married here in December and it was absolutely magic – the house is beautiful and the rooms and kitchen are well equipped. There was a myriad of different options given to suit our budget and tailor the weekend to how we wanted it. The sauna and the pool were great and fun addition in the winter. The gardens are beautiful and lovely to have the animals roaming around on site. James was very helpful and Vince lives on site and nothing is too small for him to help with. They made the whole weekend a pleasure and we hope to visit again one day.
