Landed Houses guests have exchanged over 150 messages with Moscar Lodge in the last 12 months.

The Peak District has a lovely Victorian shooting lodge called Moscar Lodge. It has been carefully planned to fit up to 20 guests in style. The main house has six beautifully decorated bedrooms, each with a king-size bed and its own bathroom. There is even a romantic four-poster bed in one room. A bedroom on the ground floor makes it easy for guests to get to their room without having to use the stairs.

The annexe provides four more bedrooms, each with a king-size bed and its own bathroom, making things more flexible. The property’s downstairs areas are great for both relaxing and having fun. There is a long living room with a cosy wood-burning stove, a modern kitchen, and a formal dining room that can comfortably seat 16 people.

The cellar, which has been turned into a living space, is a real highlight. It has a nice bar, a snooker room, and a cosy movie theatre, all great places to hang out at night. The outside areas are just as impressive. They have a terrace with great views of the moors, a swimming pool that is open from mid-April to September, a sauna, a summer house, and a tennis court that can be used in any weather.

The property was carefully planned to balance Victorian style with modern comfort, making it a great place for family get-togethers or other special occasions.

Location and Things to Do

Moscar Lodge is situated about four miles from Bamford, a small village with a train station, and 20 minutes from Sheffield city centre. Sheffield’s main-line train station offers services from London in about two hours and less than an hour from Manchester. The Peak District offers numerous footpaths and cycle paths, with nearby attractions including the Lady Bower, Derwent, and Howden reservoirs and dams.

The villages of Castleton, known for its caves, and Hathersage, home to the grave of Robin Hood’s Little John, are within easy reach. The charming towns of Bakewell and Buxton, as well as Chatsworth House with its many events, are also nearby.

Weddings

Moscar Lodge provides an idyllic setting for a memorable wedding celebration, with its stunning Victorian architecture, extensive grounds, and comfortable accommodations. The lodge offers spacious indoor and outdoor areas perfect for hosting a wedding reception, including a large dining room and terrace with breathtaking views of the surrounding moors. The lodge’s private location ensures an intimate atmosphere for ceremonies and celebrations, while the converted cellar with its bar, snooker room, and cinema space adds an extra touch of fun for guests.

With ample space for up to 20 guests, Moscar Lodge is ideal for those seeking a cosy yet luxurious venue for their special day.

House Fact

The house is owned by the Duchess of Rutland, and is her own personal renovation project. Much of the textiles and furniture comes from other houses on her estates. The Duchess of Rutland’s favourite room at Moscar is the Bamford Room, the windows of which look towards the Coach and Horses, a lofty gritstone Tor, high up on Derwent Edge.

Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“The house is presented in a great modern take on Victorian tradition, but it’s the bar that I really love. It’s decked out in a gloriously tongue-in-cheek, Del-Boy style, complete with hide-covered bar stools and glass-eyed Victorian trophies. The sort of room in which to hold extraordinary late-night conversations.”
