Barton Court is a private country estate on the western slopes of the Malvern Hills, available for exclusive stays for groups of up to 40 guests. At its heart is the Georgian Manor House, with further accommodation in the Coach House, Clock Tower, Hayloft and Loose Box, giving the estate 18 bedrooms in all.

The Manor House sleeps up to 26 in eleven bedrooms and provides the main gathering spaces for the group. There is a large Drawing Room with plenty of comfortable seating, an oak-panelled Library and a Dining Room where everyone can sit down together. The large kitchen makes self-catering for a crowd practical, or catering can be arranged if you would rather hand the cooking over to someone else.

The additional buildings give larger groups much more flexibility. The adjoining Coach House has three bedrooms and its own sitting room, while the Clock Tower, Hayloft and Loose Box provide separate accommodation around the estate. This works particularly well for multi-generational groups, giving everyone the opportunity to come together while still having their own space.

Outside, seven acres of private grounds surround the house, with lawns, mature trees, ponds and views towards the Malvern Hills. Two restored barns give groups additional space for celebrations, shared meals and activities during their stay.

Barton Court feels private without being isolated. Colwall station is about a mile from the gate, with direct trains from London and Birmingham, while the Malvern Hills are on the doorstep. Ledbury, Great Malvern, Hereford and Worcester are all within easy reach.

Meals can be as relaxed or as celebratory as you choose. The Manor House Dining Room brings everyone together around one table, while catering can be arranged with our chef if you would rather leave the cooking to someone else.

For larger celebrations, the restored Saw Mill and Dutch Barn give you space to make an evening your own. We have helped recent groups transform the barns for a casino night and a 1950s dance, while others have used them for large dinners and parties.

For smaller gatherings, the Manor House can also be booked on its own for up to 26 guests.

Location and Things to Do

Barton Court sits on the western slopes of the Malvern Hills, just outside the Herefordshire village of Colwall and close to the borders with Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. It is a wonderful base for exploring all three counties.

The Malvern Hills are on the doorstep, with miles of walking and spectacular views across the surrounding countryside. Colwall station is about a mile from the estate, with direct trains from Birmingham and London, making it surprisingly easy for a large group to arrive from different parts of the country without everyone having to drive.

The Three Counties Showground is just a few minutes away and hosts events throughout the year, including the RHS Malvern Spring Festival and the Royal Three Counties Show. Great Malvern, with its independent shops, cafés, theatre and famous Victorian heritage, is also close by.

In the other direction, Ledbury is a lovely market town to explore, while Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester are all within easy reach. There are historic houses and gardens, vineyards and cider producers, farm shops and excellent places to eat throughout the surrounding countryside.

For groups who want to stay closer to home, the estate’s seven acres of grounds give you plenty of room to enjoy being together without having to plan an outing every day. Walk the hills in the morning, head out for lunch, or simply come back and make the most of having Barton Court to yourselves.

Weddings

Venue capacity: 200

Seated indoors: 100

Venue capacity is the most the house can host in total, including outdoor space and a marquee where one is used. Marquee arrangements vary, so ask the owner.

Exclusive estate weddings for up to 200 guests, with accommodation for up to 40, restored barns, gardens and a choice of ceremony spaces.

Barton Court offers two ways to celebrate. Our midweek weddings are designed for smaller gatherings of up to 40 guests, using the Manor House, gardens and intimate ceremony spaces for a relaxed day with excellent food and plenty of time together.

For a larger celebration, couples can take over the estate, with accommodation for up to 40 guests across 18 bedrooms. Ceremonies can take place in the house, barns or grounds, with the restored Dutch Barn for the wedding breakfast and the Saw Mill for drinks and dancing.

For larger weddings, a marquee can be added in the Walled Garden, allowing celebrations of up to 200 guests.

Food is an important part of weddings at Barton Court. Our chef can create the wedding breakfast and other meals during your stay, so a wedding can become a weekend spent together rather than a single day.

The estate is private and exclusively yours for the celebration, with seven acres of grounds and the Malvern Hills as the backdrop. We host only a limited number of weddings, allowing each one to make full use of the house, barns and gardens.
