Landed Houses guests have exchanged over 410 messages with Old Rectory and Coach House in the last 12 months.

There is a ten-acre site with buildings surrounded by lawns, ponds, ancient woodland, and a unique ecology with beautiful gardens, 8 miles from the sea. We have had writing/reading retreats at the rectory, yoga weekends, and music and singing workshops. Many musicians and choirs have come to rehearse and perform, and walking groups have come for holidays, too. We would be delighted to show you around.

There is full high-speed satellite WiFi throughout the entire site. The Old Rectory sleeps up to a maximum of 18 people in 8 generous bedrooms, two of which are en-suite. There is also a family bathroom and a shower room downstairs. On the ground floor, there is a large and well-equipped kitchen with an Aga, a second kitchen with an electric cooker, a large living room with a grand piano, another large reception room, a library, and a billiards/snooker room.

The kitchens are huge and fully equipped with a dishwasher, two fridge freezers, full central heating, and a washing machine.

The Coach House sleeps 12 people in 5 bedrooms, with 2 bathrooms. Downstairs, there are two living rooms, one with a wood burner, and a kitchen with an Aga, electric hob and oven, dishwasher, and fridge-freezer. It has a small stage and brilliant acoustics.

Over the years the owners have put on plays and live music events.

The Conservatory

This is a new and very popular addition to the rectory buildings: a glass-covered area suitable for up to 40 people to sit down and eat together or have a barbeque.

Ancient woodlands surround the Rectory, making it a great place to get back to nature. Two cabins are available, and there is plenty of room for camping, with separate showers and toilet facilities.

The buildings are situated in 10 acres of gardens, lawns and woodlands ’82 ‘c4 ‘ec perfect for exploring, evening walks. There is an old walled kitchen garden and extensive lawns and flowerbeds round the house, with plenty of room for a marquee. The position of the house lawns and woodlands guarantees privacy and glorious peace.

Location and Things to Do

Located in a tranquil and picturesque setting, The Old Rectory and Coach House are surrounded by natural beauty, with expansive woodlands and well-maintained gardens offering a peaceful retreat. The site is only 8 miles from the sea, allowing for easy access to coastal attractions. The property’s secluded location provides a perfect balance of privacy and serenity while still being accessible for various events, from retreats to weddings.

Weddings

The Old Rectory is licensed for weddings and offers a country-style setting with a relaxed, rural charm. The site reserves a limited number of dates for weddings each year and specializes in creating intimate, nature-inspired celebrations for friends and family. The conservatory is also a popular spot for intimate gatherings or meals. For those seeking a wedding with a personal touch and natural beauty, this venue is an ideal choice.

House Fact

The current house was built by the Church of England in 1836, although there has been a rectory on the site since around 1200. Unusually, the house is almost half a mile from its church; St Swithuns of Pyworthy. Solidly Georgian, with typical generous proportions and light-filled rooms, the house was modernised in 1903 by the Reverend Donaldson, who felt the need for indoor plumbing.

Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“I’ve always had a soft spot for this house. It’s comfortable and not at all precious, the sort of rambling old place that you can just relax and enjoy being with your family. Great privacy, too – no neighbours for miles!”

We knew we wanted to get married at the Old Rectory Pyworthy from our very first visit. The grounds are stunning and Tony and Plym do an excellent job of maintaining the property to a great standard. We loved the country house vibes and knew we would have the wedding of our dreams here. Tony and Plym were very attentive and helpful during the lead up to our wedding and were at the end of the phone if ever we needed anything. On our wedding day we were able to have our ceremony outside, which meant we could make the most of the lovely gardens and photo backdrops. Our DJ set up in the conservatory and we thoroughly enjoyed dancing the night away by the poolside. We would thoroughly recommend the Old Rectory Pyworthy for a family/friend gathering, DIY wedding or any social occasion.
