Carlton Towers is a Grade 1 listed country house that is the home of Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard. The property has two wings for guests to stay in, including the unique clock tower. It is located on a 3,000-acre estate with 250 acres of parkland. The house has 16 rooms and can hold up to 31 guests. If you add the cottages, it can hold up to 47 guests.

The Batchelors’ wing has five double rooms, two twin-bedded rooms, and a single room. The Nursery wing has six bedrooms, one of which is the impressive two-story Majesty Baroness Tower. The Clock Tower has two suites, each with its own bathroom. There are also six self-contained cottages that can be used in a variety of ways. Each has its own kitchen, living room, and sheltered stone terrace.

The main house has great staterooms, like the beautiful Venetian Drawing Room, the Picture Gallery, and the Card Room. There are also less formal sitting rooms. The property is great for entertaining because it has a professional bar and a newly remodelled kitchen. There is a vineyard in the old walled garden, and there are beautiful lawns and a formal parterre all around it.

The owners have worked hard to keep the balance between historic grandeur and modern comfort throughout the property. This makes it a great place for both small gatherings and big parties.

Location and Things to Do

Carlton Towers offers excellent transport links with Doncaster International Airport just 20 minutes away and easy access to major cities like London. The area also provides exciting opportunities for horse racing, making it ideal for those seeking both relaxation and adventure.

House Fact

‘The priest’s hiding hole’ can be viewed from a bedroom through the glass in the floor. The venerable Thomas Thwing was captured here in 1680. He was hanged, drawn and quartered on the Knavesmire at York.

Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“Carlton Towers really is a stately home in all respects. It’s an absolute testament to British craftsmanship and Gothic Revival style, and the state rooms are wholly impressive, particularly Venetian Drawing Room. You might find me, however, ensconced on a steamer chair, in the walled garden.”

Gorgeous gothic venue – was there for a wedding and everything was run really well, venue was homely, grounds were huge…definitely worth a look if you are looking for a venue for a wedding or similar. Some of the bedrooms were gobsmackingly gorgeous, though I was in one of the cottages, which were basic but cute enough.

All staff were so helpful and attentive, all food was amazing and the building is steeped in so much history and character. All the bedrooms are beautifully decorated with personal touches, and David who did the history tour is so knowledgeable- and keen to answer any questions! Would 100% recommend.

We got married here in January 23 and it was incredible. It was actually the first venue we looked at and we walked out of our tour just knowing it was the one. After visiting several venues we came back and booked Carlton Towers. From start to finish they could not have been more helpful with organising the wedding. I emailed so many times with questions and changes and was never made to feel like I was annoying. The food was perfection and the portions were perfect – no one was hungry! The day itself ran so smoothly, all the guests were well looked after, the venue was just perfection. The staff genuinely shared our enthusiasm for our wedding and the atmosphere was fantastic from start to finish. These people genuinely want you to have the best day of your life and will do everything they can to make that happen. I don’t have a single bad thing to say. Thank you so much Carlton Towers for giving us the best wedding I could have ever imagined. Xx

Fantastic location for a wedding. We went for a Friday and Saturday for a wedding weekend, and they literally could not do enough for you with the service. The location is stunning….historic yet welcoming, and very private and quiet. If you stay overnight, the rooms are all bespoke and fantastic in their own way. The food was amazing as well and great professional service. If you are looking for a great wedding venue or a unique weekend away, I would highly recommend this place!
