Recently renovated to provide opulent lodgings while retaining its historic charm, Bessingham Manor is a stunning Victorian manor house. There are numerous sleeping options on the property. Up to 29 people can sleep in the main house’s ten spacious bedrooms, and six more can sleep in the Mews next door.
The ground-floor country kitchen is spacious and fully furnished, with an Aga and an electric range cooker. Everything you need to prepare meals for a large gathering is included. In addition to being a fantastic venue for entertaining guests, the large drawing room facing south offers breathtaking views of the immaculately maintained gardens. With its log burner, the cosy study is a perfect spot to escape the world and spend peacefully with friends.
The house is set amongst its own private parkland grounds of five acres, with ample private parking and plenty of outdoor furniture for alfresco dining and relaxing.
The property’s dining facilities are particularly striking. The Mews has its own dining area seating six, while for banquet-style sit-down meals the main hall is regularly used to seat 36 — ideal for special occasions and family get-togethers. The dedicated games room offers many ways to have fun, including a TV, a Nintendo Wii, board games, and an enormous assortment of puzzles. Each of the ten exquisitely furnished, period-style bedrooms offers a stunning countryside view.

“Bessingham was rescued from demolition; the restoration won a conservation award in 2014, and you can feel the care in the small things – sweeping staircase, four-poster beds, slipper baths. The Mews next door means you can split a large group between the formal manor and somewhere a bit more relaxed.”

We booked Bessingham Manor as a venue for 18 of us to come from all over the country to celebrate several big birthdays – it could not have been more perfect! With a huge living room (complete with pool table), a large and really well-equipped kitchen (William even had more platters delivered when he knew we were having a hosted Italian meal), a lovely dining room and loads of large bedrooms, the house was perfect for our group. Not all the bedrooms are ensuite, but there are so many beds and bathrooms it’s easy to make it work for a large group, and everything was really comfortable with lovely quality linen.
There’s loads of parking and huge grounds, which make it feel very private and special, especially sitting outside looking across acres of grass with the backdrop of beautiful trees, with bird calls and squirrels. The hot tub was an added bonus too.
The house itself is incredibly spacious and really well furnished, but equally not so pristine that you feel you have to worry about relaxing and enjoying yourself, which for a big group was perfect.
We had a superb stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to any large family or group of friends looking for somewhere really well located, near beaches, pubs and shops, with loads of space but that still feels special, unique and full of history.
It was also an absolute pleasure dealing with William, who always replied promptly and genuinely couldn’t have been more helpful. We’d definitely return.

We hired Bessingham Manor for a Spy-themed Stag Do over the weekend and it was perfect! The large kitchen, dining room and outdoor benches were ideal for catering for 16 guests (we used the large BBQ). The bedrooms were spacious with plenty of bathrooms and ensuites and with the hot tub, pool table and table football the group had plenty to do between activities. We organized a casino evening and the space was perfect for it. The large grounds, expansive parking made the venue feel relaxing and private. It’s ideal for big groups and we would recommend it for hosting events.

A lovely mansion that accommodate large numbers. Outside Facilities include hot tub, BBQ unit and fire burner .
House electricals need some attention and constantly trips and power failure occurs

Had a great few days at the manor celebrating a 60th birthday. Lots of space inside and out. Excellent kitchen facilities with plenty of everything. Nice rooms most with en suite, there were 24 of us. Would go again and probably will.

A fantastic place for a weekend house party. We were there for a wedding and it was ideal to accommodate lots of people. The venue is ideal, comfortable without being shabby. Smart but not so smart you didn’t want to wumph onto a sofa. I certainly recommend it! The discovery of human remains would have been a surprise just outside the back door between the trees, but fortunately there were none.

Our 3rd visit, hopefully we’ll be back next year.

Amazing house for a large family gathering that the kids described as Downton Abbey. Loads of en-suite rooms for the adults and many more rooms for the kids. It is very well equipped for large meals and seating both indoors and outdoors. A large jacuzzi. Extensive garden for ball games. Overall the best place that my large extended family of 22 people has ever stayed in over 10 years of having an annual family gathering. It is 15 mins drive from several beaches and towns. Pubs nearby too. I highly recommend this manor house for a large gathering.

We stayed in the Mews which is part of it. It’s a beautiful place that has been done up to a superb standard inside. We stayed there for 3 days and enjoyed every min. Only suggestion would be to have further TVs as only one TV in there which can cause grief when families all want different channels on. But great place and some fantastic history behind it as well.
