House Fact
Built in 1698, Pentillie Castle is an impressive country house set in Repton designed woodland gardens on the Cornish bank of the River Tamar. Pentillie Castle has been featured in various films and television shows, such as the hit British TV series “Delicious,” starring Dawn French and Emilia Fox. As well as “Beyond Paradise”, starring Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton.
Edmund's Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“Pentillie was built in 1698 by Sir James Tillie, who was so convinced of his own resurrection that he had himself entombed sitting up in a mausoleum on the estate. (His bones were actually found there in 2013.) The Repton-designed gardens roll down to the Tamar, there’s salmon fishing on the river, and the Sky drama Delicious filmed here.”

One word and one word only IDYLLIC. A national treasure which just has to be enjoyed. The Coryton family and their friendly hard working staff have created a total masterpiece. Gorgeous walks in lovely countryside and views over the Tamar estuary that not only changes by the hour but I would never grow tired of. Quite simply a small piece of heaven in Cornwall. I only left it 12 hours ago but already missing it terribly. If you want peace and tranquility combined with nature and beauty I cannot think of anywhere better.

A generally stunning location. I found t pentille Castle by accident, I enjoyed the ground so much that I invited some friends to come with and visit the place for their open day. We all enjoyed the visit.

We attended the open gardens in aid of Cornwall and Devon Mind. A beautiful setting and a delicious light lunch before walking down to the quay and having a good explore until we got caught in the hail! Luckily we found shelter in the kitchen garden greenhouses! Great to see some film Locations from Beyond Paradise and a chance to look around the cottage. The staff were very accommodating when many people descended on the dining room for refreshments. Sitting rooms were made available despite very wet coats and muddy footwear. We had a lovely pre Mother’s Day treat and will definitely return on another charity day. Thank you

One star only for a place that calls itself luxury but which in reality is terrible at getting back to you. David one of the owner is the worse! Very obnoxious to start with, he then literally forgets about your enquiry to stay at his “luxury” property! When you charge thousands of $$ dear, you need to deliver outstanding customer service… My 1 star matches the quality of communication skills.

Vintage Castle with quality inscribed in it.We had our bespoke weekend themed “THE TRAITORS” held in it and it was amazing! The grounds are vast and well looked after. Rooms are fabulous with the most splendid bathrooms and baths that you can literally immerse yourself in and feel looked after. Can’t say enough! It was “fantabulous”

After a visit to Pentillie, we knew instantly it was the wedding venue for us! We wanted an intimate wedding of family and close friends, so Pentillie was the perfect size for us. We booked our wedding for a weekend in July in the hopes of taking advantage of the beautiful location and the pool! Throughout the planning process, Pentillie’s communication was great and we attended multiple meetings at the venue and online. Any questions we had were always answered in a timely manner. Nothing ever seemed too big of an ask!
Rachael the wedding manager was not available on the weekend of our wedding (Our wedding was booked prior to Rachael becoming wedding manager) so we had Sammie on the wedding weekend. Rachael, Sammie and the whole team at Pentillie were incredible! Everything was taken care of and they couldn’t do enough for us!
Unfortunately the weather was not fully on our side, so we did have to go with our wet weather plan. Sammie ensured the Bathing hut was ready for our ceremony and even drove us down for the ceremony, as we hadn’t planned how to get there! The ceremony was perfect, even though it wasn’t the outside ceremony we had imagined.
As the weather cleared up, we were able to get plenty of photos outside and Sammie was on hand for transport around the estate, helping to move my dress and anything else we needed!
During our wedding breakfast staff were on hand to top up drinks and bar staff were incredible through the night. The following morning, everything was tidied away, you wouldn’t have known there was a wedding the day before.
Pentillie was the perfect venue for us and we couldn’t have asked for more! Thank you Pentillie for making our wedding day so special!

A lovely estate in beautiful grounds.
We used Pentillie castle as a base for a car club tour. It was well situated to tour the area.

We joined friends for a lovely peaceful walk around the grounds enjoying the stunning views of the Tamar Valley

Went here for an open day to look around the grounds, not inside . It was stunning. So much beautiful scenery to see from fields the gardens and the river Tamar. The walk takes you down to the quay which has spectacular views over The River Tamar. The house is so pretty on the quay. Lots of benches and viewing spots to see. Had the most delicious home made scone with jam and cream. Very good prices. Also home made cakes and quiche and various snacks. Plenty of beverages to choose from. I had coffee which was very nice. Lovely seating to enjoy your snacks outside the castle. Really interesting. Was also a map to guide you around. Loved it. So peaceful. Will definitely visit again on the next open day.

We hired Pentillie for 3 days for a delayed wedding celebration with friends and family from the UK & NZ. Every person who stayed or visited was so impressed! It is absolutely beautiful, we loved exploring the gardens and the river and they put so much thought and effort into the gardens and decor. Everyone is already dying to go back! The staff were so thoughtful and friendly and really added to the experience.

The best thing about visiting this house is the Wisteria Walk, planted by a relative and an excellent location for weddings. The old Victorian glass house is a gem, but I’m not sure if the general public can visit that. Great location for rare birds.
Christine Wallen
Walked around the gardens on the open day. Very good.

Would highly recommended viewing this place if your looking for a wedding or corporate event. The grounds are beautiful. The castle is amazing, and Chrissie is honest, friendly, upfront, and not a salesperson like you find at most places. The rooms are light very clean, it’s just a generally a beautiful place.

What a beautiful place, definitely has the WOW! factor +1 Had an afternoon tea, a bit disappointed with it, definitely had better elsewhere and cheaper but the place was so lovely.

Attended a rare open day. Great spot overlooking the Tamar river. Good collection of Camellias so visit in May if possible. Varied ground to look round, includes gardens, woodland, riverside, grazing areas and a walled kitchen garden.Think the house was open but didn’t go in. Also had coffee, cake and cream tea available. Good way to spend a few hours. Looks good for a wedding and am considering tickets to one their open air theatre events in summer.
