DESCRIPTION

Huntsham Court is very large, but surprisingly home-like and comfortable. It suits informal family parties, retreats, reunions with friends, family holidays, civil partnerships, weddings, special celebrations and parties of walkers or sports enthusiasts.

It sleeps up to 82 people, in 35 bedrooms (25 of which are en-suite). The bedrooms include two family suites, and a ground-floor room for those wishing to avoid stairs. Each bedroom is uniquely decorated and perfectly appointed: some have four-poster beds, some silk-canopied beds, and most offer space for a cot or single bed for a young child.

Downstairs, the five grand reception rooms include the library with hours’-worth of books, a beautiful drawing room, dining room (complete with ancient tapestries), the Great Hall (perfect for dancing), and a gentlemen’s club-styled bar. Each room is bright and airy, with gorgeous views across the Devon countryside.

All of the rooms are infinitely flexible, and the house has a jolly porter or two on hand to organise an auditorium, or congregation, or create a dance space.

There is room for an event or banquet for up to 130 guests.

The house sits in 5.5 acres of gardens and parkland, and is surrounded by the 5000 acre Huntsham Estate. There is a croquet lawn in the garden, and lots of secret benches, and places to hide, should you wish.

Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“The great advantage to this house has to be its sheer size and flexibility. Dining spaces can be switched about, furniture moved. Huntsham’s run by a great team, who are endlessly obliging, and will work with you to get each detail exactly how you’d like it to be during your stay.”

Things To Do

There’s a huge amount to do on the estate – like fencing, archery, pistol-shooting, clay shooting… then wine tasting or dancing lessons in the evening. There are also lots of classes you could take – everything from flower arranging, to baking, to magic lessons.

Should you ever wish to leave the house and grounds (it would be a wrench), then there’s kayaking, riding, fishing, paintballing… everything you can think of that you might like to do so near to Exmoor and Somerset. Your hosts are experts at arranging unusual pursuits, so do contact them for their suggestions.

Weddings

Huntsham Court works perfectly as a place to be with your family and friends for your special day. The house holds a license for civil ceremonies both indoors and outdoors , or there’s the option of the beautiful old village church (which happens to be on the driveway).

There are five hours of event-planning included within the wedding package, and all banqueting furniture, linens, crockery and cutlery are included. There are no pesky corkage charges. The house holds a late entertainment license, and is happy for you to use your own suppliers or those recommended by the house.

For details of special offers please visit Huntsham Court’s website. There are no hidden fees or corkage charges. Short stays are available upon request.

We were so fortunate to have our wedding celebration at Huntsham Court, the venue couldn't have been better. The owners were charming and made the whole experience ideal. We'll never forget it, and neither will our guests!

This was the most amazing venue for our fairytale wedding weekend, I can't thank Natalie and her staff enough for all their help and support, my guests are still talking about the amazing experience they had at Hustahm Court. Thank you for the amazing memories made ❤️

Just had the most amazing weekend and wedding at Huntsham. Natalie was wonderful both pre wedding planning and on the day. The staff were awesome, going above and beyond expectations to keep the guests comfortable. Thank you all for ensuring our wedding was the best it could be!

Located in what was once an idyllic village in the Devonshire countryside, only to ruin it. Residents in Huntsham can expect frequent disturbance at all hours! Such as this evening with a concert of horrendously out of key bugles being played! What a respectful buisness.

Excellent venue, that we, as The Iron Boot Scrapers, perform at, as the dance band, or even the 'serenading' band, regularly. It has that old world charm, having been a late Victorian manor, and is in great condition, with all the touches you expect from such a vintage place. Also the grounds are well maintained. We look forward to returning on a regular basis

The PERFECT wedding venue - we could not have hoped to work with more wonderful people at Huntsham or for a better weekend. The freedom and flexibility to do what we wanted was ideal, but we never felt overwhelmed or abandoned. There was always someone to answer an email and give advice to help make the planning as easy as possible. The whole weekend was magical from start to finish, all our guests were blown away by their rooms and the beauty of the house, and the wedding day itself went off without a hitch. We could not have done it without Clair and the rest of the team. Thank you guys!! I just we could have stayed for the whole week! <3

Simply PERFECT ! Dan and I were married at All Church Saints - the gorgeous church at the bottom of the drive - by Rev Kev - who is simply fab, 10 Dec 2016. We arrived at Huntsham Court Friday lunchtime and didn't leave for 48 hours! We had a pre- wedding Christmas party the Friday night and Saturday was the big day. Everything went without a single hitch, and even if there was a hitch, the HC Team didn't let us know! We could completely relax and didn't need to worry about a single thing. The team know exactly what they are doing - it is a very very well oiled machine but with the added bonus of a personal touch and great communication. The interior design is awesome - it is beautifully decorated but not stuffy - everyone felt very comfortable the entire weekend. We really can't thank Chris and Damian enough for offering HC as a venue (little things like naming the guest rooms after their pets is so lovely!) thank you to the team, and a special big thank you to Deby who was just so helpful, thoughtful, creative, supportive and fun throughout the entire planning process right through to the big day. We would love to do it all again - it was literally the best weekend EVER!!! I'm inspired by another reviewer who said they came back for an anniversary celebration!! If anyone is in doubt about booking Huntsham Court, we can sincerely recommend it! And we would be more than happy to give advice to anyone who would like to understand more about how it works , or about any of the brilliant suppliers we used . Xxx

We run a fun Events company and were hired in to provide rodeo bull entertainment for a wedding at the Huntsham Court Country House. The staff were extremely helpful and the grounds gave us some amazing pictures. Just wanted to thank everyone there and hope to work with you all again soon. Best wishes, Mane Events

The Huntsman Court Country House is just perfect for the big family get together, like a wedding. Right next to the parish church with a very friendly vicar. The amenities are great, set in a country house, not spoiled by massive my, but comfortable.

My husband and I married here two years ago; Huntsham is absolutely stunning, and offers a unique set-up, where you are completely free to choose and plan your own weekend wedding in such a grand yet relaxed setting. All the team at Huntsham are just so welcoming, you are made to feel so special and everybody is so inviting and friendly. My husband and I were lucky enough to go back to Huntsham recently for an anniversary dinner in the Library, which was kindly arranged by the team. I don't think any other venue would just let you return and help create something so special again. For us, it just shows how personal and unique Huntsham is. Thankyou Huntsham! X

Attended my cousins wedding last December, it was the most amazing venue! Staff were so friendly, house was spotlessly clean and very very comfy. Was a truly magical wedding. We still talk about it frequently as my son who was 5 at the time also had the best time. Certainly an impressive relaxing venue for any occasion!

We couldn't have asked for a better place to have our wedding. The staff were amazing, no job too small and they thought of everything. Truly a perfect weekend at a perfect venue. Look forward to finding another excuse to rent Huntsham for the weekend again!

This place is positively magical! Its uniqueness lies within its authentic artifacts and incredible charm along with its relaxed and homely feel. I loved the whole weekend, our friends wedding was amazing, the little church, the staff, truly amazing experience. It's highly recommended !! I feel like moving in there :)

My daughter and son-in-law booked Huntsham for their wedding at the weekend and from the minute we arrived lunchtime on Friday, till we left Sunday afternoon we and the other 118 guests have had an absolute blast. Huntsham works like a well oiled machine with lovely staff who come and go as required, seamlessly setting and re-setting the beautiful reception rooms for each activity - in our case from Friday evening meal in the Tapestry Diamond Room followed by a ceilidh in the Great Hall, the wedding itself at the gazebo in the stunning grounds followed by canapes outside and the wedding breakfast in the Yellow Room and Library ensuite on the Saturday and Sunday lunch. All the rooms are tastefully furnished with hand picked period furniture, lush fabrics, beautiful wallcoverings and objet. Every possible need is catered for in a totally relaxed way. You really feel the house is your home for the weekend and by the end of it you don't want to leave. I cannot imagine a better wedding venue. Special thanks to Debbie, Colin and Jane for helping make my daughter's wedding weekend so special for us all.

House History

The current house was built in 1868, for the eighteen-year-old bride of Charles Troyte, Katherine. Evidently Katherine's parents took one look at the earlier (and possibly a little shabby) Tudor manor, and requested something more grand be built for their daughter.  Which is exactly what they got - Victorian Gothic by Benjamin Ferrey, who was highly fashionable (and later one of the founder members of the British Institute of Architects).
