Huntsham Court

Huntsham Court is very large but surprisingly home-like and comfortable. It suits informal family parties, retreats, reunions with friends, family holidays, civil partnerships, weddings, special celebrations and parties of walkers or sports enthusiasts.

It sleeps up to 100 people, in 42 bedrooms (25 of which are en-suite). The bedrooms include two family suites and a ground-floor room for those wishing to avoid stairs. Each bedroom is uniquely decorated and perfectly appointed: some have four-poster beds, some silk-canopied beds, and most offer space for a cot or single bed for a young child.

Downstairs, the five grand reception rooms include the library with hours’-worth of books, a beautiful drawing room, dining room (complete with ancient tapestries), the Great Hall (perfect for dancing), and a gentlemen’s club-styled bar. Each room is bright and airy, with gorgeous views across the Devon countryside.

All of the rooms are infinitely flexible, and the house has a jolly porter or two on hand to organise an auditorium, or congregation, or create a dance space.

There is room for an event or banquet for up to 130 guests.

The house sits in 5.5 acres of gardens and parkland, and is surrounded by the 5,000 acre Huntsham Estate. There is a croquet lawn in the garden, and lots of secret benches, and places to hide, should you wish.

Things To Do

There’s a huge amount to do on the estate, such as fencing, archery, pistol-shooting, clay shooting… then wine tasting or dancing lessons in the evening. There are also lots of classes you could take – everything from flower arranging, to baking, to magic lessons.

Should you ever wish to leave the house and grounds (it would be a wrench), then there’s kayaking, riding, fishing, paintballing… everything you can think of that you might like to do so near to Exmoor and Somerset. Your hosts are experts at arranging unusual pursuits, so do contact them for their suggestions.

Weddings

Huntsham Court works perfectly as a place to be with your family and friends for your special day. The house holds a license for civil ceremonies both indoors and outdoors, or there’s the option of the beautiful old village church (which happens to be on the driveway).

There are five hours of event-planning included within the wedding package, and all banqueting furniture, linens, crockery and cutlery are included. There are no pesky corkage charges. The house has a late entertainment license and is happy for you to use your own suppliers, or those recommended by the house.
