Upwey House

Upwey House is a classic country manor house comprising 6,000 square feet over two floors and dating back to the 1830s. For most of its life, the house was owned by the Gould family, who also owned much of the land surrounding Upwey and Dorchester. Since then, it’s been beautifully decorated throughout and sleep up to 24 guests.

On the First Floor there are nine characterful and luxurious bedrooms including a mix of king/double and twin beds. There are also 4 modernised bathrooms, each including a shower and bath, on the First Floor for the bedrooms to share. 

For those who’d prefer to avoid the stairs, there is a bedroom on the ground floor and two WCs making it appropriate for disabled access.

Downstairs, the house incorporates a light an airy Drawing Room along with a playroom for younger guests (this is well stocked with dressing-up clothes, toys and games, arts and crafts, a dolls’ house and an air-hockey table), a library/snug and a snooker room.

There is also a large Dining Room to accommodate up to 24 guests around a large wooden table and adjoining light open-plan kitchen with an impressive Lacanche range.

About the Location

Upwey House is situated between Weymouth and Dorchester and the area is perfect for walking, water sports, beaches, cycling and the breath-taking views of the Jurassic coastline.

This area boasts excellent local pubs and eateries, and wine-tasting, artisan shopping plus Upwey Wishing Well is a short walk away and is historically famous for its healing powers.

Outside

23 acres of private rural land surround Upwey house and include a stream, a walled garden, paddocks, a sun terrace, a gazebo and expansive lawns and fields.

There is also a newly built outdoor (but covered) kitchen area with a gas barbecue, wood-fired oven, fridge and bar area.

Things To Do

There’s plenty to do at Upwey house from family games such as croquet, badminton, cricket, football and water slides to cooking up a barbecue or enjoying a game of scrabble in the Drawing Room.

We can arrange for a hot tub to be provided at an additional charge (just ask).

Weddings

Upwey House can accommodate wedding parties of up to 160 guests all year round. The house is fully licensed for legal ceremonies and has a variety of partners to provide catering, marquees, and all forms of entertainment.

The wedding packages include accommodation at the house and work wonderfully well for those who want to extend their celebrations.
