We have a great collection of large houses for hire in Devon; all perfectly placed to let you explore the South West coast of England. Dreaming of clotted-cream scones on the terrace? Dancing in a ballroom and holding a romantic tryst in a rose garden? Then you must see our houses.
There are lots of houses in our Devon collection, and our houses are all suitable for family parties, special birthday celebrations and weddings (some of our houses even have private chapels).
One of our most popular manor houses is Buckland House, in North Devon, upon whose lawn you will have one of the country’s finest games of croquet. It also has a ravishing oak-panelled dining hall, and seventeen bedrooms. It’s half an hour’s drive each way to either the North coast, or the South coast, depending on your urge to surf (go North!), or walk (go…erm, actually, either way).
Even closer to the North Devon coast is Ash Barton, known as one of the West Country’s best party houses (the enormous Games Barn goes a long way in encouraging this title, as does the heated swimming pool).
If you’re looking for a laid-back, unspoilt house with buckets of rustic charm, the Old Rectory at Pyworthy is a lovely choice. It sleeps up to 34 by using a cottage in the garden and a coach house (perfect for teenagers); the main house sleeps 16. Pyworthy is about eight miles from the seaside, and is ideal for an extended-family holiday.
If you’re looking for a big house for a wedding on the South coast, you must see Pamflete, a large house that’s part of the Flete Estate, on the South Hams. Guests of Pamflete have access to the Flete Estate’s private beach, Mothecombe, which makes for the most beautiful wedding photos.
One of the largest and grandest houses in our collection is Huntsham Court, on the edge of Exmoor National Park. Huntsham is great for corporate events and large weddings – it’s really unusual to get a property of this size and quality available for exclusive-use. It’s easy to reach, too, from Exeter, Taunton and Bristol.
A Word From Edmund
Devon is synonymous to me with Buckland House – I know it well and have had some memorable weekends there with several groups of friends. It’s easy enough to get to from London, and about half an hour’s drive to Bude, should you crave an ice-cream by the sea.
