Arrive at this stylish house and through the front door, guarded by large stone lions. To the left the drawing room, flooded with natural light, with comfy sofas and an open fire, it’s a perfect place for a cocktail or afternoon tea. Directly across is the dining room with a large table for 20 and twinkly chandelier above. The floor to ceiling windows add to the elegance and there is another open fire with grand mantlepiece to set the scene for your dinner party. We can recommend local chefs if you want help with a few meals, or something extra special.
The kitchen and breakfast kitchen lead off from the dining room. Containing an electric age (with excellent instructions), conventional eye level oven, 4 ring hob, 2 dishwashers and American style fridge. The centre island and bar stools make it a very social space.

The media room has 3 gaming chairs to fight over and sofas for everyone else. A great sound system and projector for your movies or gaming. Further down the flagstone hallway, a study and separate library with sofas and plenty of books for a quiet moment or two. For the energetic there’s a well equipped gym and for the fun loving a games room with table tennis, basket ball hoop and darts.
There are 9 bedrooms on the first floor, looking over the gardens in various directions. All furnished in contemporary style, which blends well with the character features of the house. Currently 4 bedrooms have superking beds, 3 king size, 1 has a zip & link bed that can be either 3ft twins or 6ft double and 1 of the bedrooms has a superking bed and a double sofa, bringing sleeping capacity to a maximum of 20 guests.
Outside, there are terraces that run along the south side of the house, with a barbecue and pizza oven. Across the lawn is the swimming pool with sun loungers and for more entertainment there’s an all weather tennis court. Wander through the orchard and have a game of football on the full size pitch (no white lines). Outside, you may notice a slight hum of motorway traffic – on our 3 visits there, we have only heard it once. Get in touch if you would like to know more.
Hay Manor is located 6 miles from Taunton (a 15 minute taxi ride from the station, with direct links to Paddington & Bristol/Birmingham and beyond).
This house is not available for weddings or events.
Great things to do in the area include Crealy Adventure Park at Exeter, high ropes at Vivary Park in Taunton, Hestercombe House & garden, West Somerset Steam Railway at Bishops Lydeard and the coast with its historic harbour at Lyme Regis.
The house was built in 1800 as a family holiday home for a French merchant.

A wonderful property with expansive grounds, beautifully renovated and provided a stunning setting for a weekend away with friends. Janice and Mary were both lovely and welcoming and we would certainly recommend this to friends and family!
