Kirtlington Park is a fine country house and estate in North Oxfordshire, and is ideal for private hire.
The house can sleep 20 guests in 10 bedrooms. Six of the rooms have ensuite bathrooms, two have designated adjacent bathrooms and two bedrooms share an ensuite shower room. Five bedrooms are on the second floor and five on the third floor, accessed by a spiral staircase.
On the ground and first floors, there’s plenty of both formal and informal space. The Hall and Saloon are large rooms, perfect for parties, and the Drawing Room, Monkey Room and Library are more intimate.
As well as a catering kitchen, there’s a family kitchen with everything you’d expect, and a dining room, which seats 16 guests; alternatively, a table can be laid in the Saloon for larger numbers and more formal dining.

Additional services such as catering and house staff can be booked before your stay.
There are plenty of distractions in the house, including snooker, table tennis, and a gym.
Outside, terraces lead down to the lawns, which are perfect for family games. You can also walk in the woods, or go down to the lake for a competition of Ducks and Drakes. Alternatively, you can sit in fine company and comfort, with a glass of something cold and lovely, and look at the view from the terrace, which stretches to the far-off purple smudges of the Chiltern Hills.
Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“This is a beautiful house, and one of its loveliest aspects is the park, designed by Capability Brown. It might not have quite the scale of nearby Blenheim Palace, but it makes you feel that same sense of peace and timelessness that the English countryside can provoke.”
About the Location
Kirtlington Park is about 20 minutes’ taxi ride from the centre of Oxford. Local train stations are Bicester and Oxford Parkway, both about 10 minutes’ drive. The house is on the outskirts of Kirtlington village, which has easy access to Junction 9 of the M40. Central London is an hour away by train, or less than a couple of hours if you zip up the M40.
Things To Do
The estate is on the edge of the Cotswolds, and there are many fine local pubs and villages nearby, including two pubs in Kirtlington itself.
Kirtlington Park Polo Club borders the estate, and you can be both a spectator, and book lessons.
North Oxfordshire is great walking country, and a section of the Oxfordshire Way leads through Kirtlington village. Soho Farmhouse is about 20 minutes away, should you be a member, and Daylesford not much further, if you’d like to visit their famous farmshop.
Weddings
Kirtlington Park specialises in elegant country house weddings. The house is licensed for ceremonies and can seat up to 110 guests for dining in the Great Hall. The gardens make a beautiful setting for drinks and the Saloon is ideal for dancing.

House Facts
Kirtlington Park was built in 1742 by Sir James Dashwood. The architect, James Gibbs, designed the house and Dashwood commissioned the best craftsmen of the region to decorate the rooms. The famous Monkey Room ceiling is lavishly painted with country scenes populated with monkeys, dressed as people, engaged in sporting activity; deriving from a French fashion of the time.
