The Courtyard at Stowlangtoft Estate gives you a chance to play ‘lord of the manor’, without the sobering running costs.
The best part? Choosing who’s staying where, in one of the four beautiful country cottages – The Coach House, Symonds House, Amherst House, and Langetot.
Having recently undergone an immaculate refurbishment, these smart Suffolk country retreats are ideal for family get-togethers, reunions or wedding accommodation.
There are nine bedrooms in total, sleeping up to 18 people across the different properties. Got some unexpected RSVP’s? Don’t worry, there’s space for a further five guests on two sofa beds and a single bed located in one of Amherst House’s spacious double bedrooms.
The Coach House can comfortably sleep six to eight guests, with one double ensuite shower room, two twin rooms, and a large family bathroom.

The Coach House can comfortably sleep six to eight guests, with one double ensuite shower room, two twin rooms, and a large family bathroom. There’s also a sofa bed in the living room for two additional guests.
Symonds House is located over three floors and sleeps two to four guests, with one double room, one twin room, and a large shower room.
Amherst House sleeps four to seven in one double room, one twin room, and two bathrooms. A single bed and a cot, located in a bonus room off the double bedroom, are perfect for little ones. There’s also a sofa bed in the living room to host two additional guests.
Guests with dogs will enjoy Langetot, sleeping two to four (humans) in a double room and twin room, plus a family bathroom, and separate WC.
The cottages share communal gardens, and each has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and comfortable living room. Families with young children will find the Coach House and Amherst House ideally laid out and well-equipped, especially the children’s play area and football pitch.
All linen and towels are included, as is your first basket of wood for the wood burner. Don’t forget the marshmallows!
Still not big enough? The benefit of staying on a stately home estate is that there’s always another property! We can host up to 35 extra guests, in Stearn Cottage and The Shooting Lodge.
Bring the whole group together to dine and relax in The Dark Horse, a beautifully redesigned stable block that seats up to 35 in comfortable style.
Don’t fancy cooking? We’ve even catered for the caterers, giving them their own kitchen space to help you celebrate your special event. Let us know if you need catering recommendations too.
Edmund’s Favourite Feature
“The special layout, with the various cottages bordering the courtyard, makes this a cosy, yet expansive place to stay. I particularly love the thought of coffee and croissants in the Dark Horse stable block!”
About the location
Located just off the A14, The Stowlangtoft Estate is the perfect base from which to explore the best of Suffolk.
Things to do
The Stowlangtoft Estate covers over a thousand acres, so once you’ve unpacked, why not take a stroll along one of the estate’s four public footpaths and marvel at the Suffolk countryside?
Just over a mile away is Wyken Vineyard, with its lovely Saturday Farmer’s Market, country store, and the stunning Leaping Hare Restaurant.
Bury St Edmunds, a thriving market town, with a cathedral, and abbey ruins surrounded by the beautiful Abbey Gardens, is 10-minutes away by car.
Explore the market square (market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays), take a tour of the Greene King Brewery, or enjoy one of the many eateries the town has to offer.
Head to Lavenham, with over 300 listed buildings and a huge church tower, or visit Cambridge for a spot of shopping, and perhaps some punting on the River Cam. Finally, take a drive to the Suffolk coast and explore Southwold or Aldeburgh for a spot of fish and chips on the seafront.
