Nedging Hall

Nedging Hall dates back to 1487, and is part of a 5,000 acre Suffolk estate. It really is a house to enjoy, and works beautifully for parties of family or friends.

There are currently ten bedrooms (including the snug on the ground floor), sleeping up to 24 guests, with seven bathrooms. There are also two loos on the ground floor. Most of the beds are kingsize and can be set up as twins, and there are two comfortable day beds available, that can be put up in the rooms. Additional Z beds are also available.

Downstairs, there’s plenty of space, should you have a full house. There are two dining rooms, each seating sixteen or fourteen guests. The kitchen is large and well kitted-out for the full thirty. There’s a round breakfast table set in front of the French windows, ideal for feeding tinies tea, and a wine fridge, for the moment they’re in bed.

For pre-prandial cocktails, there’s a generous reception room, and for after-dinner cards, there’s a comfortable drawing room with a wood burning fire. For anyone more energetic, there’s a large billiard room on the second floor. On a long afternoon, should anyone need to slope off to watch tennis, there’s a snug, off the kitchen.

There’s plenty to do during the day, not least float in the salt-water swimming pool, or steam yourself like broccoli, in the sauna.

Outside, there’s a south-facing terrace with a barbecue and chairs for thirty, overlooking the large garden. The garden itself is rather special, it has a very long ha-ha and a croquet lawn. There’s a narrow stream, winding its way to a lake, and a tennis court and indoor table-tennis table. For hours of quiet contemplation, there’s a Japanese garden with a carp pond.

Further time of quiet contemplation can be spent at the stables, admiring the house’s resident pair of Suffolk Punch horses.

About the Location

Nedging Hall is between Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich (with its main-line train), so right in the heart of rural Suffolk. It’s about 35 minutes’ drive to the coast, or a little further to Cambridge.

Things To Do

The house is set within 80 acres of parkland, with lots to explore on the estate. Central Suffolk offers fabulous walking and cycling country, and there are many routes incorporating village pubs.

Weddings

Rustic, natural settings, or opulent and luxurious are both possible at Nedging Hall. There are several wings of the house which can serve as different wedding preparation areas; including the spacious, light-filled honeymoon suite. There are a number of options for your wedding service at Nedging Hall – although not currently licensed, there are many spots for an informal ceremony or vow recital. Alfresco ceremonies on the chequered lawn; under festoon lights, with the stream trickling past in the Japanese garden; in the rustic barn by the open fire; sundown gatherings nestled in the woodland, and so forth!
