The Castle (or Castle Farm), at Capel-y-ffin (the Chapel at the End), is a long, low hill farm, tucked and hidden in its Black Mountain blanket. The peace and tranquillity of the valley is remarkable – acting as inspiration for poets like William and Dorothy Wordsworth, David Jones (illustrator for Gulliver’s Travels) and writer Bruce Chatwin.
Accommodation at the Castle is flexible. It sleeps up to 30, with 7 bedrooms (2 ensuite) sleeping 16 in the main house and options of adding further spaces in the Cottage and an extra external double bedroom called the Granary.
Castle Farm sits in 40-acres, in an exceptionally private location near Hay-on-Wye, with direct access to the Black Mountains, which are part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It has its own stretch of river for paddling in, and acres of land and woods.

Do not stay here! I stayed 1 night and that was too much. The bed was so uncomfortable, I didn’t get any sleep as you could feel every spring. There is mould around the windows. Towels were nowhere obvious and I later asked if there were any and they were in a draw hidden under the bed. Breakfast is half open boxes of cereal and toast. There was a mix up with my room and so I got a lesser room than what I paid for, when questioned and asked for a partial refund for this and the disappointing stay I have been refused. Poor customer service. Avoid!

Lovely owners and lovely atmosphere x sadly what let us down was our room stunk so bad of wet dogs we had to have the window open all night. Even our dogs didn't want to sleep on the floor. I understand as a dog friendly hotel there will be doggy smells but this was a bit to much. Not all the rooms was like this as my mother and father in law slept in another room and it was fine so some Polite advise get some plug ins. Other than that bed nice and comfy definitely recommend people to stay and I would stay again but ask for a diffrent room lol x

Charming hotel situated on the outskirts of Talgarth. The room was spotlessly clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Being an older building, there were some wonky floors and changes in level, which just added to the charm. Breakfast was 'Continental', but ample, with very good coffee. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated ideally for exploring Hay and Brecon, and there's loads to do nearby:- walking, kayaking, paddleboarding, pony trekking and there's even paragliding for the more adventurous!

Very good location , 15 - 25 minutes to penny fan , 15-20 minutes to Hay on way. The owner was a very friendly and open person. Since beginning we felt really comfortable like home. 5 minutes walking to nearest shop , next to the hotel there is a fish and chips , I did not try but constantly crowded so probably good. Breakfast very good , everything's fresh. Dog friendly place. WiFi , smart tv included. Not expensive. Highly recommended, definitely We will visit this place again if we will be nearby.

Stayed in room 5, in eves - big but no air. It has no windows that open apart from a tiny velux and is stifling. Folks nice, but not really a pub, the adjoined Fish and Chip shop seems to be a big focus of activity. Breaky is continental. There's better out there.
Landed Houses
Castle Farm is probably the most remote-feeling of large country houses to rent on the Landed Houses site - some seven miles up a single track road in rural Wales. It used to be a youth hostel and has four separate buildings; the Farmhouse, the Barn, the Cottage and the Granary. The largest and most comfortable (by some way) is the Farmhouse which sleeps ten and is often rented out with the adjacent Barn which can sleep another ten in bunks and is ideal for children. The Barn also has a shower room / washroom which is as it would have been in the days when Castle Farm was a youth hostel. My favourite rooms in the Farmhouse are the kitchen with Aga and next-door dining room which are both very presentable and smart-looking. The sitting room is also decent and provides a good place to rest weary legs after a long day's walking. The smallest of the properties, the Granary, is on the other side of the Farmhouse and has room for just four. The remaining property is the Cottage which is basic but very liveable. Not one for the divas of this world but many many steps up from a bunkhouse. I think that Castle Farm is extremely well suited to the more active groups who want to stay in the one of the most remote buildings I have across that has four walls, a roof that doesn't leak and some very comfortable living space! Floor plan. The Farmhouse has 5 double bedrooms, 2 ground floor bathrooms and a large kitchen with Aga. The Cottage has 2 family rooms (double with single bed), 1 single room and 1 bathroom. The Granary can take 2 adults and 2 children on bunk beds. The Barn can take 10 children/adults on bunk beds and has a microwave, kettle, fridge and one bathroom.

Great experience at The Castle Hotel recently. We booked a last minute family room only 15 minutes before we arrived and they were very well prepared. The service was excellent, greeted by a warm welcome and superb Welsh charm. The room was clean and warm, breakfast was lovely. The hospitality from the staff was the ... stand out point. From start to finish they were incredibly helpful and friendly; Would recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
