Somerford Hall

Somerford Hall is a Georgian mansion of pleasing, Palladian proportions, on the edge of Staffordshire, just north of Birmingham. It’s a great house for parties of family or friends, and can be set up however you might like it.

The house sleeps up to 48 guests, within the main house, the Butler’s Cottage and the Coach House. Within the three places are three four-poster beds, four family rooms and three twin rooms. One of the rooms has twin bunk beds – ideal for stashing older children. The Butler’s Cottage and Coach House are only available to book to supplement the twelve rooms of the main house (you do not have to fill the rooms).

The main house has six bedrooms on the first floor (each with an ensuite), and a further six bedrooms on the second floor (four of which are ensuite, the final two share a bathroom).

The Butler’s Cottage is reached across an internal courtyard, and is perfect for a family. It has three bedrooms and shares a bathroom (there’s also a kitchen, sitting room and dining room).

The Coach House is beyond the Butler’s Cottage, and has five bedrooms, all ensuite. There are extra foldout beds available, for children.

Guests are welcome to gather in the reception rooms of the main house. There are two kitchen areas, a dining room that easily seats fifty, a sitting room, bar room and library. There is also a games room, home cinema and an enormous and impressive ballroom, which can be used for anything from banquets to disco-dancing. There are also catering kitchens available.

The hot tub is to be found inside the internal courtyard, perfectly sheltered from any wind.

Somerford Hall is within an estate of thirty acres, and there’s lots of outside space to enjoy. There’s a generous terrace, with BBQ and seating area, a pavilion, for afternoon tea, and a folly. The staff can help set up any activity you might like.

The landscaped gardens segue into parkland, and guests are welcome to walk around the lakes, or through the woodland. There’s a restored Vardo on site, a traditional Gypsy caravan, and guests can sit around a firepit outside it, and toast the stars.

Somerford Hall welcomes pets with no limits on numbers permitted, nor are additional charges made.

About the Location

Somerford Hall is 20 miles north of Birmingham. Manchester and Bristol are both less than and 1hr 30mins drive, and London is just over two hours away (or 1hr 30mins by direct train). The house is 10 minutes from the M6 and M54 motorways, in peaceful countryside

Things to Do

There’s lots to do in the house itself, the Games Room has table tennis and a pool table. The garden games include croquet, boules, cricket, football, badminton and volleyball.

There is fishing in the lakes and a number of walks around the estate (including a path to the pub, in near-by Brewood).

The staff can arrange on-site activities such as laser clay shooting, quad bikes, spa treatments, cookery sessions, crafting lessons and team building activities. Off site, guests can play golf, go horse-riding, hire off-road 4×4’s and play paintball. Nearby attractions include Weston Park and the Ironbridge Museums. There are lovely routes for walking and cycling on nearby Cannock Chase (AONB), or guests can potter up the Shropshire Union Canal path.
