Knowle Manor

Knowle Manor is a gracious, Elizabethan country house, and sleeps up to 50 guests in 20 bedrooms – all ensuite bar one.The house is suitable for family celebrations, weddings and parties, and also well-being breaks and corporate retreats.

The bedrooms all have splendid views of the lake and parkland, or else the kitchen gardens and the moor beyond.

There are three large reception rooms and a games room, in which can be found table tennis and a piano. The games room also houses the large, indoor pool. The reception rooms include a drawing room, dining room and the ‘Bar Room’, which is thankfully everything to do with gin and tonics, and nothing to do with gymnastics.

The dining room is large enough to seat all guests together. There is also a large, fully equipped kitchen (suitable for caterers, if you’d rather not cook for yourselves).

Outside is a walled terrace (just outside the games room with the pool, so perfect for a spot of sun-bathing to dry off). There are several different lawns to choose from for French cricket (or whatever you fancy), and the walled kitchen garden. There’s also a lake, around which to perambulate. Red deer may join you, should you be there around dawn.

About The Location

Knowle Manor is in the village of Dunster on the Somerset coast, five miles from the sea-side town of Minehead.

The nearest railway station is Taunton, a 24 minute taxi-ride away.

Things To Do

Knowle is set within a hundred acres of grounds, through which the River Aville winds as if in no hurry at all. You can paddle in it, walk beside it or fish it, depending on how you feel. Otters, herons and kingfishers mostly fish it.

Exmoor itself offers unlimited opportunities for adventure, including (of course) pony trekking, mountain-biking, kayaking and hiking. More fishing.

Or you might like to exploreDunster Castle (home to the National Collection of Strawberry Trees), or the ancient Tarr Steps, or the gorgeous thatched village of Selworthy.

Weddings

Knowle has limited number of dates for weddings a year, and work to ensure each one is as special and individual as you could imagine.

The Palm House is available in addition to the house for wedding receptions, birthday parties, meditation or anything else which might require a large open room. It has air-conditioning in the summer, and under floor heating in the winter, and seats up to 120 with round tables.

Country Sports
