Enjoy croquet on the lawn, a game of tennis or perhaps even the use of a swimming pool. Plan a memorable wedding or event, surround yourself with family and friends and most of all, relish your stay in a stately home.
We use the term ‘stately’ to describe a house of impressive appearance – somewhere that will be the perfect back-drop to your milestone birthday, or special anniversary. (If you’re looking for a wedding venue, try our collection here). Our houses have a wealth of unusual features, from moats and walled gardens, to secret passageways and tiny turrets.
Stately houses provide perfect venues to rent for amazing house parties and weekend breaks. All of the houses in our collection are available for exclusive use (so no sharing bathrooms with strangers), and every property is unique.
Most of our houses welcome children and dogs. Unlike a local hotel, stately homes were designed for raising families and welcoming friends, rather than guests, and that tradition continues today. We are collecting the very best stately homes from all over the UK (although a few elude us…we’d rather fancy a palace), and we hope to offer a stately home to Landed Houses visitors in every county across England, Scotland and Wales.
All of the houses we’ve chosen are steeped in their own individual history, and many boast famous guests. Brinsop Court, for example, in Herefordshire, was once lived in by the Wordsworth family, and William Wordsworth visited many times. North Cadbury Court, near Glastonbury, was owned by Sir Archibald Langman, who was best friends with Arthur Conan Doyle – ‘The game’s a-foot!’. Sir Archibald’s direct descendant (a lovely chap called Archie Montgomery) still manages the estate today.
Every one of our houses are privately-run, and often managed by the family that have owned them for generations. They are used to assisting with all manner of special requests, from marquee hire to accommodating guests with special dietary and physical needs. All of the houses have excellent housekeeping standards and trusted caterers either on or off site.
A Word From Edmund
Stately homes are as particular to the British Isles as our Royal Family, and reflect our extraordinary history and success across the world. It’s remarkable that we can now experience the glamour of a stately home for ourselves, in privacy, and without the day-to-day worry that comes with keeping a house of this size in good condition!
