How it all started…
The Old Rectory at Shelton, Norfolk, was the first house I ever rented. It was a freezing weekend in January 2009 in a house which would struggle to be called ‘luxury’, but we all had a super time and I caught the bug. We ate well, drank well and ran around playing outdoor laser quest at a nearby farm. The whole weekend came to about £90 a head and I thought others might want to do this too… hence Landed Houses started up.
There are lots of big houses dotted around other websites, but they’re either hard to find amongst smaller properties, run rather too commercially or only available through agencies on commission. So, we only do the big houses, commission-free and prefer houses where you book directly with the owners. Hooray for that!
And what came of the Shelton Old Rectory? This… sniff….
… Mind you, it did take rather too long to get my deposit back and perhaps I should have seen the warning light!
