One of our lovely houses in the Yorkshire Dales has just launched a series of themed mini-breaks, and here at Landed Houses, we thought we’d support Thornton Lodge by publishing a few of them.
A Foodie’s Delight
Oh, how Britain has changed in the last ten years! Particularly in the culinary stakes. The food diversity across Britain (as so well demonstrated by Jamie Oliver), coupled with the awareness of food miles, means local food has never been better, nor more appreciated.
Vanessa, one of the owners of Thornton Lodge, and Chief Cook, has been home-cooking Yorkshire fare for over twenty years, and her guests can now enjoy a whole weekend, or mid-week break, of Vanessa’s jolly good, traditional grub.
Here’s a sample of one of Vanessa’s lovely Foodie mini-breaks…all made with local and seasonal ingredients where possible.
Arrive Friday, 3-4pm to be served a traditional cream tea in the sun room.
Friday Evening – starting at 7:30pm, with a choice of starters, main courses and desserts.
Saturday Breakfast – full English breakfast – Yorkshire style! (Although if you’d just prefer tea and toast, Vanessa will forgive you). The Black Pudding and duck eggs (if you’re lucky) carry a particularly fabulous reputation.
Saturday Evening – dining in style! You’ll start with canapés and champagne, then through to the dining room for a choice of starters, main courses, a trio of desserts and a cheeseboard with amazing local cheeses and a glug of port.
Sunday Breakfast – another chance to savour the best of Yorkshire…if you can fit it in…
