Wiston House is part of the Wiston Estate, which owns around 6,000 acres of the South Downs National Park. The house is secluded, and is particularly suited to the sort of weddings and special events you’d like to keep private.
Wiston is an excellent choice for corporate guests, as there is plenty of space for workshops and conferences, as well as accommodation. There’s a team of staff on hand, to help organise rooms in whatever structure best works for you.
The house has 20 bedrooms (all en-suite), and a further 28 bedrooms within the converted cottages and outbuildings near the house. There’s room for up to 80 guests to stay overnight.
The most impressive of the reception rooms is The Great Hall, with its soaring stone fireplace. There is also a ballroom (wonderfully romantic, with brushed-gold mirrors), and various smaller rooms – the Library, the Common Room, the Green Room and the Orangery. The Library has rather fabulous leather wallpaper, which was once the very height of sophistication.
Wiston House does not offer self-catering, so the kitchens are commercial, but there is a team of chefs that will work with you to design the menus you would like.
Outside, there are 15 acres of formal gardens in which to wander, as well as two all-weather tennis courts, and a traditional croquet lawn. The Italian gardens are a favourite for photographers.
Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“Wiston really does have a superb ballroom – the sort of golden, enchanted space in which you could dance until dawn.”

Things To Do
There are plenty of beautiful walks on the Wiston estate, plus further trails to follow on the broader South Downs. The seaside offers charming distractions, and Brighton offers itself, unashamedly. The events’ team at the house can arrange any group activities you might fancy, or you can keep it all low-key, and simply enjoy the house and gardens.
Wiston House holds a civil ceremony license for four locations (The Library and Common Room for intimate weddings, the Ballroom and Great Hall for up to 110 guests). There are several packages available to suit different budgets.
Wedding dates at Wiston House are often booked up well in advance but occasionally there is late availability. If you are considering a short engagement the team can help you arrange a wedding in just a few weeks; please call Wiston House to discuss your arrangements.
