Telfit Farm is near Richmond, North Yorkshire, and sleeps up to 16 guests in the main house, and two in the gorgeous little Cart House. There is a converted barn, should you be planning a jolly knees-up sort of party.
The main house has 7 upstairs bedrooms, each with a bathroom or loo, and a bedroom on the ground floor, with its own en-suite. Of the upstairs bedrooms, there is one twin, and 3 that could be turned into twins, should you need them to be.
The Cart House is self-contained, and has a kitchen and living room, as well as bedroom and bathroom – ideal for those who might like peace from the main house.
In the main house, there is a spacious kitchen, with a breakfast table to seat six, and a smaller dining room leading off from it. The dining room seats between 8-10. For relaxing after an invigorating day out on the Dales, there is a television room, or a drawing room with big sofas.
There is also a heated bootroom for battalions of wellies, and any muddy dogs (dogs are not allowed in other parts of the house).
For parties, or dining as an 18, there is a beautifully converted barn, with arching oak beams and a wood-burning stove. The barn has its own separate catering kitchen and a loft space for yoga.
Outside, the French windows in the kitchen lead to a wide, sunny terrace, with a croquet lawn and haha. Beyond the garden are ravishing views of proper Yorkshire countryside, the sort that make you want to stride out, immediately, into the rolling green hills.
Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“Oh, the views. I love Yorkshire anyway, but the views towards Marske are the sort to heal the soul.”
About the Location
The nearest main-line train station is at Darlington, about 20 miles away. A taxi would be about half an hour’s drive to the house.
The A1 runs up past the nearest town of Richmond, which is about 15 minutes’ drive from Telfit Farm.
Thing To Do
There are some great walks and cycle routes from the farm itself (Telfit is a working farm, so dogs must be kept on leads, and gates shut). The area is known for its local birds, including black grouse, curlews and lapwings (or peewits, in the vernacular).
If you’d like to visit a Yorkshire town to get a traditional Yorkshire tea, there are plenty – Richmond, with its castle, then Leyburn, Reeth or Hawes – all have elements of a Dales town, and are interesting to potter round.
Telfit Farm is managed by a company that can help with itineraries, or suggestions of places to book for lunch, or to take children. There are a number of B&B’s and small hotels in the area, should you have more guests that can fit in the house itself.
Telfit Farm has full wedding planning assistance, and management, included in the hire rate. They welcome celebrating couples in both the mid-week, and at the weekends.
