Stretton House is a Victorian country manor in Derbyshire, just outside the Peak District National Park. It is ideally suited for large family parties, weekends with friends, and corporate use.

The house has 13 bedrooms (10 of which are en-suite, and three of which are flexible family rooms). There are an additional two bathrooms. The rooms are all large and light-filled; some of the rooms have four poster beds.

Stretton is a big house, and its reception rooms are just as generous as its bedrooms. There’s an elegant drawing room, with long sofas and an open fire; a library and a large dining room, which stretches the width of the house, and is perfect for a formal dinner party (or conference table, should you be there to work).

There is also a bar lounge and a sun lounge, and large conservatory, which will seat the household of guests for more informal dining.

In the Games Annex, there is a games room with pool table and table football, and a playroom for younger children, complete with rocking horse.

There are also two kitchens, East and West, both of which are well-equipped and easy to use.

Outside, the terraces offer views of the woods and the lake, and lead down to formal gardens, including a knot garden. The lawns are perfect for a high-stakes game of croquet, and there’s a children’s play area. Guests are welcome to enjoy drinks or a BBQ on the terrace, and there’s adequate seating for everybody to sit together.

Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“One thing that I think Victorian country houses do beautifully, is a grand entrance and stair case, and the one at Stretton House really is impressive. It has colonnades and hand-carved balustrades, and makes a fantastic area for welcoming guests for drinks.”

  • Had an amazing weekend here with loads of families - kids of all ages loved it specially the grounds and gardens. Huge house decorated wonderfully with all the mod cons, everything you need for a luxury holiday!

  • Just had my 40th birthday celebrations at Stretton House and it was perfect in every way. The group was made up of 10 families and there was plenty of space for everyone. The house is beautiful and every detail has been thought of. The children had a ball! We will definitely be back!!

  • When you approach this stunning house it gives you the impression of a Grand stately home similar to Downton Abbey. It is simply stunning.
We went for our friends special birthday and we had the time of our lives. It sleeps at least 30 but we had 21 and there was so much room, we didn't feel crowded at all.
The bedrooms are all very special and nearly all had ensuites.
We enjoyed the outside area and luckily we had great weather and had a BBQ. We had all the utensils to cook and prepare food.
We made use of the cinema room and watched a couple of DVD'S. The men made use of the games annex which included a pool table and numerous other game tables.
On the Saturday night we had the outside caterers come and serve us a 3 course meal.
We felt really spoilt and it was lovely for our friends Birthday.
We loved our time here and are booking again for next year.

  • Spent a weekend here for a friends 60th birthday. Had a fantastic time with excellent facilities the house offers. Great base for walking and cycling, if you don't mind a few hills.

  • Beautiful! Everything about this place is just lovely. From the sunken baths to the books dating back to the 1300s. Set in beautiful surroundings offering great views of our wonderful countryside. It was our friend's 50th weekend celebrations and we had the best time.

  • This house is stunning house was lovely, we had 28 people including 4 young children and still felt like there was plenty of room. The house was very clean and was lovely to be greeted by the butler. We would definitely recommend this to others.

  • Not sure Stretton house has had so many kilts, guitars, questionable Tina Turner wigs but we had the best time with all our family and old friends at Grandad's gap year party. Thanks Michael Mackay our talented nephew for fabulous guitar playing, great place for a big family get together, something for everyone!

  • We stayed at Stretton House as a party of 28 ranging from age 7 to age 56. The house is BEAUTIFUL. It is spacious (in fact it takes a few hours to get your bearings and you can easily get lost), beautifully decorated and so well equipped. We wanted for nothing. Even the weather was kind to us for October. We could enjoy the sunshine in the glorious garden, and then enjoy the fires in the evening. We'll be back!

  • The most amazing weekend ever. Nothing was too much trouble, really personal touches and totally gorgeous place. All the rooms are so well done. Exceeds all expectations and more.

  • We wanted to have a big family christmas get together this year but this wasn't possible due to work, and other commitments, so the only time we could all get together was last weekend, which also coincided with a birthday. 31 of us with ages ranging from 2 months to 95 years went to Stretton House. What an amazing and beautiful country house. Everything was perfect, there was plenty of room, the facilities were second to none, and a wonderful time was had by all. Already planning our next visit, hopefully in the summer so we can make the most of the beautiful gardens. Mary and Carol
