Mears Ashby is an elegant Jacobean country house, just north of Northampton.
It suits family parties or special celebrations with friends. The house can sleep 18, although you’re welcome to have additional day guests, should you choose (the owners prefer to confirm numbers of extra guests prior to your stay). Should you hold a party, there are additional dining tables available, and extra beds for children.
There are nine beautifully presented bedrooms, three of which are en-suite. The remaining six share two large family bathrooms (and there’s also a downstairs’ cloakroom).
The house has been carefully renovated and retains impressive original features, such as the plaster-work ceiling in the library, and the oak-paneled dining room (which seats twenty in comfort). The front hall is known as the ‘Griffin Hall’, for its magnificent carved newel post.
There is also a large and well-appointed kitchen (with an Aga and additional butlers’ pantry), that leads into a glorious light-filled conservatory, over-looking the garden.
The drawing room offers a comfortable retreat after dinner, and on summers’ evening, the French windows can be flung wide onto the garden.Should dancing beneath star-light prove tricky weather-wise, there is a ‘Night Club’ room, complete with bar, dance floor and impressive sound system. A hot tub is available at additional cost.
Mears Ashby sits in eleven acres of private garden and parkland, and has a tennis court, hot-tub and a fabulous lantern-lit Games Barn, equipped with table-tennis, darts board and table-football. There’s also a croquet set for games on the endless lawns, and a lake, with a little boat on which to bob about.
Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“The most striking thing about Mears Ashby is its presentation. The decor and furnishings complement the house perfectly, and the emphasis is on rich colour and comfort. Outside is just as impressive – there’s a 17th Century dovecote, and an 18th Century summer house to explore.”
