House of Glennie
About House of Glennie
House of Glennie was built as a Scottish fishing lodge in 1934. It’s on the bank of the River Deveron, about 50 minutes East of Aberdeen, and is ideal for parties of family and friends who would like a traditional Scottish holiday.
The house sleeps 13 guests, in 8 bedrooms, with 5 bathrooms between them. The bedrooms are all upstairs, and include three twin bedded rooms, three singles, and two doubles, one of which is en-suite. The remaining bedrooms share four bathrooms and a further separate loo. There is a pleasing tartan carpet covering the stairs and landing.
Downstairs, there are two comfortable sitting rooms, both with an open fire, and generous book shelves. There is a large kitchen with a breakfast table, and a separate dining room. There is also a Rod Room, and a utility room, for drying off outdoor kit and any odd spaniels that might need it.
Outside, there’s a spacious courtyard with ample parking, and a peaceful garden, sheltered by high walls. The river Deveron, about 50 yards away, is one of Scotland’s premier salmon rivers. The banks are perfect for picnics if you’d rather not fish, or there’s a sturdy fishing hut, overlooking the water, if the weather’s inclement.
Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“The House of Glennie has a real timelessness about it. It offers the sort of traditional holiday you remember going on as a child, the sort you long to take your own children on.”
