House Facts
The first recorded occupiers of the house were a community of Cistercian Monks, who were part of Cleeve Abbey. However, the site is thought to have been occupied even earlier than that, by farmers.Since the monks, the house has been many things to many people, including a farmhouse, girls' boarding school and a center for evacuees during the Second World War.

We had a lovely 1 night stay at Croydon Hall as we came for the Golden Retriever Experience nearby and were recommended this hotel by GRE. The hotel has a lovely home away from home feel, the staff are so welcoming and friendly and go above and beyond. The breakfast was served from 9-10am, cooked fresh and was really delicious! Such a great start to the day! The dinner menu looked really nice too with hot stone steaks etc, although we opted to go out for the evening to the nearby Valiant Solider (a recommendation from the reception staff) and the meal there was terrific - if you are staying here and want an evening out highly recommend. We also used the spa at Croydon Hall which you can book to have exclusive use of for an hour, free with your room - the hot tub was so lovely. The outdoor pool was great too, I was expecting it to be freezing but it was a lovely warm temperature even on a miserable English summer day, so relaxing winding down there. The room was spotlessly clean and bed very comfy - the only thing I would say is that the Forget Me Not room has very low ceilings and not much height in shower which was quite a challenge for my 6ft1 boyfriend, but we quite enjoyed the quirkiness of it - as we were only staying for 1 night we didn’t mention anything as we didn’t want to cause any hassle but I’m sure if we had spoken to reception they would have happily sorted something for us as they were just so friendly and accommodating. I would definitely come back to Croydon Hall and highly recommend a stay here, wish we had longer to relax in this stunning place! Thank you Jeremy and team!

Stayed here for 2 nights in June as a couple. Couldn’t fault the place or the staff, was considering a couple of hotels in the area and after seeing the others, glad we chose this place! Beautiful grounds are very well kept. The manager there is very accommodating and passionate about the hotel and grounds. It showed when my wife saw his dog and he was more than happy for her to play and take him for a walk! I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in this area when returning next time!

Wow ! What a great way to spend a few days in the countryside. Our hosts Mark and lydie were absolutely amazing. The picturesque surroundings were accompanied by miles of great walks. 15 mins from the beach and great places to visit. I love with this place and surroundings can’t wait to come back later this year.

We only stayed one night and wished we could stay longer. We were charmed by all the staff we encountered who were very friendly and professional. The dinner was outstanding, compliments to the chef! Definitely recommend!

Amazing hotel in fantastic location near Minehead and the Exmoor. Extensive grounds with so much space to relax on the various terraces, around the pool or wider gardens. Lovely dining area looking onto the terraces. Amazing space. Lovely bar area with log fire. We stayed in the Pearl Suite which had its own lounge and kitchen area, fully fitted with plenty of space and even a dishwasher! Amazing views to the hills and grounds. Manager, Mark is so helpful and his family make you feel truly at home. Nothing is too much trouble. I can see this place as an amazing wedding or other significant celebration venue. But you do need a car. Exmoor and coastal towns are nearby by but easier if you can drive.

Such a beautiful place, run by lovely people. Feeling revitalised after the Golden Retriever Experience, country walk, spa, massage and some fetch with Milo!

Visited this beautiful property for afternoon tea. Lovely welcome from the daughter of what we quickly learnt was a family run business. Chef also came to say hello at our table and again to make sure the food was okay. We had our tea in the conservatory at the back of the hotel which had stunning views toward West Quantoxhead. The sandwiches and cakes were delicious and Chef kindly boxed up the scones we were unable to finish. Good range of teas and we saw others having bubbles too. We will definitely return for lunch and/or dinner based upon our experience today. Lovely chatting to the owners who have made the various rooms we saw, beautiful and relaxing spaces to enjoy. Highly recommend.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights at the beginning of January and had the most wonderful time. Obviously the grounds and the hotel itself are beautiful (we stayed in the Opal suite) but what really made the trip for us was the hospitality we received. Mark really went above and beyond for us, I couldn't believe how much effort he went to, especially to accommodate my vegan diet. The food was beautiful, and we felt really well taken care of the whole time. Just a really really lovely place to stay in a beautiful area, I can't recommend this place more.

Really grateful to the staff of Croydon Hall for taking care of me. I recently had an operation and was coming to a retreat there to relax and unwind in nature. We truly did just that enjoying the facilities indoors and outdoors. Stunning decor, wonderfully lit fireplace and extremely comfortable bed and room. Special shout out to Mark for being extra accomodating to my needs! Gratitude always.

Looking for your perfect wedding venue can be a daunting task. Jeremy and Rylene made this decision so easy for us. From the very minute we arrived, they made us both feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Rylene’s keen eye for detail is second to none, and she isn’t sleeping until she knows that the venue is exactly how you want it to be.Everybody dreams of their perfect day, and they exceeded all expectations. Mark, his wife and the whole team made all the guests feel welcome. The food was absolutely out of this world. We booked the whole hotel and the rooms are so clean and picture perfect. We all had breakfast together the next morning and it was the icing on the cake.We loved it so much, we have booked for Christmas Day. I’m a honest reviewer and wish I could find room for improvement on something, but honestly the whole weekend was perfect. Genuine hard working people, running a beautiful hotel and we feel truly honoured to have had our special day at Croydon hall.

We stayed for 2nights. The manager was friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds and warm pool water. We were upgraded, which was nice. The breakfast and dinner were excellent. Highly recommended.

Nice setting, but the decor was not tasteful, and needs a proper interior designer. I would not recommend eating here, it looked like defrosted ready meals, but the staff were really great. The "spa" was quite makeshift and wasn't very relaxing

Thank you very much for a fantastic stay at Croydon Hall. It was a very special experience and everybody loved the place. We have arranged company seminars in many places and several of my employees told me that Croydon Hall was the best.

Stunning place in a picturesque setting! This a truly soul healing spot in Somerset where city problems are a distant memory. The pool was the perfect temperature and clean the rooms were absolutely fine although we didn't spend too much time in ours as the outdoors appeal was just too great! The grounds are very well maintained and the croquet was great fun ;) Would definitely come back. Big thank you to Mike & Carmen who made our stay one to remember!

I had what can only be described as the BEST WEEKEND EVER at Croydon hall. An amazing estate, rolling hills, pool, comfort, luxury. Relaxation at ridiculously high standards. I felt blessed to be in such wonderful surroundings. You cannot ignore the obvious care and nurturing that must go into keeping it in such pristine condition - all thanks to the lovely caretakers Mike and Carmen. Thank you so much!

What a beautiful place! The setting is absolutely stunning & the house itself is magical, we had such a good time! Mike & Carmen the caretakers were absolutely brilliant & looked after us wonderfully. We can't describe how much we enjoyed our stay there! The pool is wonderful & the views overlooking the grassy hills & the sea are just magical, something that you just can't quite grasp from the pictures. We would most definitely come stay again!

Our stay at Croyden Hall was one I shall never forget. The Somerset landscape was sublime, the homestead was fantastic and the welcome genuine and warm. The rolling Somerset hills seemed to lap at our feet like waves they were so close. You could stand and stare there was so much breath-taking scenery to take in It was like stepping into a Constable masterpiece. The Victorian style homestead is both private and open having communal areas for sharing company and quiet corners for taking time out; both magnificent and humble having grand architectural features as well as a sympathetic place in the countryside. It was extremely well appointed with all the amenities you would expect of a holiday retreat or a spa.Mike and Carmen the caretakers were also brilliant. They always on hand if something was needed but were never in the foreground so we always felt like it was our occasion. Our stay was absolutely fantastic and would have zero hesitation recommending anyone to stay there again.Brilliant! Wow what a weekend. The house was lovely & the rooms were very comfortable. The grounds were absolutely stunning & the gardens were incredibly well kept. The house itself is well equipped & we easily catered for our group. The caretakers were great & very accommodating & left us to our own devices unless we had any questions. We would certainly come stay again.

The house has so much to offer that for very small charities like us, there isn't much need for any extra entertainment or activities. The range of spaces available such as the barn for the ball and the bar for socialising means there is a lot of flexibility for what to do while there. I would say that the house has a lot more to offer and the site is much bigger than the website maybe suggests. It is brilliant for groups like ours trying to keep costs to a minimum, but for a non charity event I would definitely have paid more for the venue.

We chose this inn at the recommendation of the nearby Golden Retriever Experience, and were thrilled with it. The centuries-old estate is beautiful and the staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Jeremy, the owner, made reservations for us at a nearby pub for dinner and personally drove us there and picked us up afterwards. The breakfast ... was excellent and the spread impressive, even though we were the only guests that morning. We had visited London on a number of occasions from the US, but this was the first time in the English countryside for us and what a nice way to experience it. We highly recommend!

Beautiful setting with wonderful countryside views. Our room is tastefully decorated, clean, comfortable and smells amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed the heated outdoor pool especially my 8 month old. Lovely full English and continental breakfast plus views from breakfast room. All staff are friendly and helpful, already looking forward to our next stay. The spa ... room is a nice addition too, I enjoyed the steam and jacuzzi especially, great you can book a 1 hour slot and enjoy all in peace :)
