Croydon Hall is a big, practical house near Minehead, in Somerset. It is available for exclusive use and suits large parties, corporate retreats and residential stays. It is also suitable for weddings.

There is room for up to 60 guests to stay, (80 if the Coach House is used) in a mixture of double-bedded rooms and rooms with more than one single bed and bunk-beds. There are ample bathrooms and washrooms, although three of the double rooms are en-suite.

The downstairs rooms are all large and can be used flexibly (the owner is happy for you to move furniture). There is a big, bright drawing room, over-looking the garden; a dining room (that can seat 75), a commercial kitchen and a bar-lounge with an open log fire. In addition to these, there are two barns, one of which can be used as a home cinema for up to 100 people.

For those needing to switch off and relax, there’s a spa, Swedish sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

In the formal gardens, there is a heated outside swimming pool (generally open from March to September), and several terraces from which to enjoy the views of Exmoor.

Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“The Old Barn is an impressive space; high ceilinged and perfect for a party. It’s separate from the main building and self-contained, with its own loos, a couple of smaller rooms and easy-access from the car park.”

About The Location

Croydon Hall is just off the M5, on the edge of Exmoor National Park. The nearest train station is Taunton.

Things To Do

There is plenty to do in and around the house, and additional activities (such pony-trekking or shooting), can be arranged. The surrounding area is great for adventurous children – there’s Butlins at Minehead (you can visit on a day pass), water activities and high-rope challenges at Wimbeball Lake, or a visit to the beach, at Blue Anchor (about ten minutes’ drive).

Thank you very much for a fantastic stay at Croydon Hall. It was a very special experience and everybody loved the place. We have arranged company seminars in many places and several of my employees told me that Croydon Hall was the best.

We had an absolutely amazing time and the house and grounds were spot on! Your housekeeper and caretaker are a credit to you and were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout! We're already looking at coming back next year!

Thank you so much for letting us stay at Croydon Hall. We had a terrific weekend in the most beautiful place. We all loved Croydon Hall and the surroundings very much. Your live-in staff took very good care of us, and so did Peter Mundy Catering and his team.

The house has so much to offer that for very small charities like us, there isn't much need for any extra entertainment or activities. The range of spaces available such as the barn for the ball and the bar for socialising means there is a lot of flexibility for what to do while there. I would say that the house has a lot more to offer and the site is much bigger than the website maybe suggests. It is brilliant for groups like ours trying to keep costs to a minimum, but for a non charity event I would definitely have paid more for the venue.

House History

The first recorded occupiers of the house were a community of Cistercian Monks, who were part of Cleeve Abbey. However, the site is thought to have been occupied even earlier than that, by farmers. Since the monks, the house has been many things to many people, including a farmhouse, girls' boarding school and a center for evacuees during the Second World War.
