Cornwell Manor is a Georgian dream of a country house on the Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire border. It’s the perfect house for relaxed family weekends, or celebrating special occasions with friends.
The house sleeps up to 24 guests in 12 bedrooms, with 9 bathrooms.
Downstairs, there is an elegant drawing room, oak-panelled dining room (which seats 16) and the ballroom, which can seat up to 80 guests (or 140 guests for dancing).
The kitchens are presided over by a live-in housekeeper, although you’re welcome to use outside caterers, should you wish.
The house is part of a private hamlet, which is within a private estate of 2000 acres. The gardens stretch to 9 acres, and were designed byClough Williams-Ellis. Guests are welcome to wander the lawns and avenues, and admire the formal planting and fountain. Should you be seized by the urge to leap the haha, you’ll find a lake and wood beyond.
There is a heated outdoor pool, set in a walled garden, and a tennis court, for the energetic.
Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“Cornwell is a very graceful house, and offers a glimpse into a privileged, very British way of life that is rarely seen. The estate is used to hosting guests who would rather enjoy themselves away from the public gaze, and the level of privacy is excellent.”
About the Location
Cornwell is not far from Oxford, on the edge of the Cotswolds. It’s close to Daylesford and Kingham (with their famous farm shops and pubs, respectively), and Stow-on-the-Wold, a Cotswold Town known for its country-lifestyle shops. Soho Farmhouse is about 20 minutes away, as is the fabulous Blenheim Palace.
The nearest main-line railway station is Moreton-in-Marsh, which has regular London trains (the journey is about 90 minutes).
Things To Do
As well as visiting local Cotswold towns, like Chipping Norton, there’s plenty of opportunity for walking and cycling, and the area makes terrific horse country.
There are spa facilities and cookery courses available at Daylesford, and archery and game shooting can be arranged on the estate.
Weddings are very special at Cornwell, and there is a very private Norman Church within the village. You can also be married in the house, in the ballroom, which seats up to 100 guests for the ceremony.
Marquees are welcome on the croquet lawn, and can hold up to 200 guests.
Cornwell allows weddings on a limited number of dates a year, and each event is unique. Please contact the house directly for more details.
