About Clevedon Hall

Clevedon Hall is a Victorian Mansion between Portishead and Weston Supermare, within walking distance of the sea. It makes the ideal venue for smart, country weddings, special celebrations, or for corporate use.

The house has 25 en-suite bedrooms, and sleeps up to 50 guests. Some of the bedrooms have additional dressing-rooms and sitting-rooms, and there’s an elevator to access both the second and third floors.

Downstairs, there are two large rooms in which to hold a dinner or party – the Great Hall, or the Grand Library. The Great Hall is at the heart of the house, and is double-height, with large, open fireplaces and balustraded balconies above. The Grand Library is mostly used for dining, it can seat up to 80.

As well as the larger rooms, there are some more intimate spaces, including the Bar, Snug and Oak Room. There’s also the Conrad Finzel Room, and the Dame Rosa Burden Room, both of which may have been the Morning Room and Drawing Room originally. Leading from the Grand Library is the Orangery, which in turn leads down into the gardens.

The kitchens are at the back of the house, and manned by a professional catering team.

The house sits within gardens laid to lawn, with both a courtyard fountain, and a lake (complete with a heron called Harold) . There’s also a gazebo, licensed to hold weddings.

The sea is within walking distance, as is the village of Clevedon, and the Clevedon Pier, which poet Sir John Betjeman declared ‘the most beautiful pier in England’.

Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature

“Hard to choose with this house, between the Grand Library, or the Great Hall – although the Great Hall might just pip it, on account of its grandeur. It really is a splendid room, up to a wedding ceremony, a dinner, or a dance.”

About the Location

Clevedon Hall is on the North coast of Somerset, not far from Bristol or Bath, and just off the M5. The nearest train station is Yatton (about 10 minutes’ taxi drive).

Weddings

Clevedon Hall was designed with large, private events in mind, and most of the rooms hold a civil ceremony license, as does the outside gazebo. There is a team on site to help you organise every aspect of your day, and there’s also an on-site catering team, who will work withyou in developing menus.

Corporate Use

Clevedon offers a great standard of corporate entertaining, including its 25 en-suite bedrooms.

Planning a wedding over Covid was not easy! We purchased the wedding day package for 60 day guests and 80 evening guests just before covid struck in February 2020. Thereafter arranging and rearranging with the Hall as covid took hold, and rules and restrictions constantly changed, although stressful, was as seamless as we could possibly have hoped for. Laura our wedding coordinator was an absolute star and nothing was ever any trouble. Our final actual wedding date on 31 May 2021 was the 6th date we had planned and replanned for and we were so happy when it finally came around and went ahead, as I am sure Laura and the Hall were too! As it became increasingly apparent as our original date of 8th November 2020 drew ever closer that a traditional day of a large congregation followed by evening reception and disco was not going to be possible in covid times, we reengineered our package with the Hall and Laura to comprise exclusive use of the Hall for us and 15 guests for a ceremony and wedding breakfast to finish by 7pm. We have then transplanted the whole of the evening part of our day to a date in early 2022 when the hope is that there will no longer be any restrictions on numbers that can attend and celebrate with us, although we will have been married a good 7 months by then! It does however give all our guests the chance to see, visit and experience the Hall. This flexibility and willingness to think outside the box within the bounds of the package cost we had already paid upfront to the Hall was very welcomed and never did we feel that there was anything other than a collaborative spirit to try to achieve the best day and outcome for us. The focus was always on us, even though the Hall must have had a lot to think of itself about the effect of covid on their business. This couple centric behaviour and attitude is what has really meant our experience with the Hall exceeded all expectations and that we could not have asked for more from them and from Laura in particular. From the beginning we loved the Hall from the moment we first went round to see it at a wedding fayre back in January 2020. The space is amazing and to have so many lovely rooms available all under exclusive use was outstanding in the local area. The cost of the packages was also very competitive which was attractive. That’s before you even get to the fact that as a dedicated wedding venue where that is all they really do and they are very experienced at it, the bedrooms which come with the packages are just simply stunning and like something out of a 5* hotel. Getting ready on your wedding day in the Eagle Owl suite or Barn Owl suite makes you feel like the King and Queen! Having a dedicated wedding coordinator is also a great touch as it is personal and you feel as if you can ask them anything, and nothing is a silly question or too much trouble. After the journey we have been on with Laura she feels like a friend and we are so grateful to her for trying to minimise the strife and trouble in all that covid threw up when planning a wedding. She really was outstanding. Our wedding day on 31st May went like clockwork and the staff were great! We cannot wait to go back and party the night away in 2022!

Excellent Although I was a guest at a small wedding I thought all the staff were attentive but not intrusive Great venue with lovely gardens and of course the weather for a Bank Holiday was superb
