Clevedon Hall, Elton Road, Clevedon, BS21 7RH
Clevedon Hall is a Victorian Mansion between Portishead and Weston Supermare, within walking distance of the sea. It makes the ideal venue for smart, country weddings, special celebrations, or for corporate use.
The house has 25 en-suite bedrooms, and sleeps up to 50 guests. Some of the bedrooms have additional dressing-rooms and sitting-rooms, and there’s an elevator to access both the second and third floors.
Downstairs, there are two large rooms in which to hold a dinner or party – the Great Hall, or the Grand Library. The Great Hall is at the heart of the house, and is double-height, with large, open fireplaces and balustraded balconies above. The Grand Library is mostly used for dining, it can seat up to 80.
As well as the larger rooms, there are some more intimate spaces, including the Bar, Snug and Oak Room. There’s also the Conrad Finzel Room, and the Dame Rosa Burden Room, both of which may have been the Morning Room and Drawing Room originally. Leading from the Grand Library is the Orangery, which in turn leads down into the gardens.
The kitchens are at the back of the house, and manned by a professional catering team.
The house sits within gardens laid to lawn, with both a courtyard fountain, and a lake (complete with a heron called Harold) . There’s also a gazebo, licensed to hold weddings.
The sea is within walking distance, as is the village of Clevedon, and the Clevedon Pier, which poet Sir John Betjeman declared ‘the most beautiful pier in England’.
Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“Hard to choose with this house, between the Grand Library, or the Great Hall – although the Great Hall might just pip it, on account of its grandeur. It really is a splendid room, up to a wedding ceremony, a dinner, or a dance.”
