Brickwall House in Northiam, East Sussex, is a very special timber-framed, Tudor house. It operates as a specialist private college during term-time (Frewen College is world-famous for its work with dyslexia), and is a wedding venue during school holidays.
Brickwall was the family home of the Frewen family, and the main house retains not only the elegant decor of a fine country house, but also the treasures collected by generations.
Guests are invited to use the entrance hall, drawing room and dining room. The entrance hall is a very light room, with stuccoed ceiling and polished oak floor. It leads through to the panelled drawing room, with its spectacular crystal chandelier and French windows onto the garden. The dining room is equally elegant, and each room can be used flexibly, depending on your plans for the day.
The drawing room holds a civil ceremony license for up to 100 guests, and can also be used for music and dancing, should you wish it to be. If you had a rather larger party in mind, up to 200 guests can be accommodated in a swish marquee.
Brickwall House sits in a rolling, bucolic estate of 60 acres. It has a carriage drive (making for beautifully elegant bride-arrivals), which is flanked by lawn and open parkland, roamed upon by deer (and the odd fluffy sheep).
The gardens to the back of the house include chess-board topiary and a romantic walled garden, planted with roses and lavender.
Brickwall House can accommodate 46 over-night guests during summer holidays only, in the college’s boarding house. The rooms are functional and simply decorated, and include breakfast. There are however, plenty of small hotels and B&B’s in the vicinity.
The house has its own in-house caterers, and an events team (Nova Wedding Planning) to assist with whatever you might need.
Edmund’s Choice of Extraordinary Feature
“Brickwall House is a beautiful place, with a fascinating history, and can offer families somewhere really special to celebrate the union of their loved ones. I’m a particular fan of the inspired and inspiring topiary. “
