Little Gaerfields (formerly known as Littlefields - Gaerfields) is a property close to the Welsh Borders that was once two separate lets but is now combined into one. It sleeps twenty in six bedrooms including a family room and one bedroom with two sets of bunks. Generally it is more 'comfortable' than 'luxurious' but the price reflects that and is a good value. The house is a ski chalet in style, pale wood and functional rather than an aged country mansion but is nonetheless extremely popular. Little Gaerfields has managed to sell-out for past two years and anyone interested should book early. The building was once a barn on the Upperfields Farm (still working today) and has been converted into rental accommodation. The owners live nearby and have various animals on the farm, ranging from pigs to sheep on the day I visited. Plenty of tales were recounted of children helping out on the farm and playing in the empty barns. For entertainment there is also an outdoor play area for children with slides etc and an indoor swimming pool with infra-red sauna nearby. A jet machine that makes the pool 'endless' is installed too, though both it and the infra-red sauna are chargeable. Indoors the beds and bathrooms are decent and wholly comfortable for a family holiday or birthday party. Plenty of seating is provided downstairs and the owner is very happy for visitors to stay up enjoying themselves until the small hours. The kitchen is utilitarian in design and easily serves its purpose! In summary if you are after a rural holiday and would like to stay on a working farm then there is no better place. The visitors' book contains many reviews of nearby places to see and enjoy and acts as a useful guide for guests.
