Bruisyard Hall Review
Bruisyard Hall, Saxmundham, Suffolk IP17 2EJ
Bruisyard Hall stands tall amongst its flat Suffolk surroundings; surprisingly so for a house that had parts built some 600 years ago. The driveway and aspect are impressive and there is most definitely a feeling of grandeur surrounding the property. Inside it has high ceilings and large sparsely-decorated rooms which have a great atmosphere when filled with people. The kitchen is large and well-equipped, no Aga but plenty of prep space and a large table. Off the kitchen is a games room with TV and billiards to one side and a dining room to the other. The dining room has plenty of seating and long table which is a more recent addition to the house - easily disguised by a table cloth! The main sitting room has three sofas and a working fireplace, and there is also a smaller overflow sitting room.
Upstairs the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. As with most old houses bathrooms are far fewer in number than the bedrooms but the changeover of one bathroom to a shower-room avoids backlogs in the morning rush. Of particular note is the master bedroom which is substantial and has a wonderful countryside view. There are two bedrooms on the second floor, one of which has four single beds and would be great for children. For full plans click on the floor plans on the Bruisyard Hall website.
All in all the house is perfect for groups that want space to run around and a stay in a grand country house. It does not pretend to have been built yesterday and extras like a swimming pool are absent - but that somehow adds to its charm. The visitors' book glows with compliments and the owner responds to emails quickly and is helpful.
