The Old Rectory and its Coach House make for a very special set up, perfect for weddings, family reunions or celebrating a big birthday or anniversary. It’s surrounded by ancient woodland and the best of British nature; wildflowers, birds and trees.
The owners also arrange writing retreats and walking holidays, and would be delighted to show you around.

House Facts
The current house was built by the Church of England in 1836, although there has been a rectory on the site since around 1200. Unusually, the house is almost half a mile from its church; St Swithuns of Pyworthy. Solidly Georgian, with typical generous proportions and light-filled rooms, the house was modernised in 1903 by the Reverend Donaldson, who felt the need for indoor plumbing.

We knew we wanted to get married at the Old Rectory Pyworthy from our very first visit. The grounds are stunning and Tony and Plym do an excellent job of maintaining the property to a great standard. We loved the country house vibes and knew we would have the wedding of our dreams here. Tony and Plym were very attentive and helpful during the lead up to our wedding and were at the end of the phone if ever we needed anything. On our wedding day we were able to have our ceremony outside, which meant we could make the most of the lovely gardens and photo backdrops. Our DJ set up in the conservatory and we thoroughly enjoyed dancing the night away by the poolside. We would thoroughly recommend the Old Rectory Pyworthy for a family/friend gathering, DIY wedding or any social occasion.

What a week we had with our lovely hosts Jan and Phil at the Old Rectory Coach House, Sampford Brett, Somerset. Located just 3 miles from the small harbour village of Watchet. The accommodation was extremely well equipped and homely. Very peaceful as its in a very small village. The jewel in the crown however is the pool and gardens. Lovingly attended to throughout our stay, the gardens are a lovely place to be. The pool is a good size and a refreshing wind down after a day exploring. From the accommodation there is more than a weeks worth of activities to explore.Zoos, arcades, exmoor, helicopter museum, steam trains, meals out, fish and chips and nice walks. You can explore busy seaside resorts and retreat back to the serenity of the old rectory for a quiet evening and a barbecue. It was so nice to stay with other electric car owners and have use of their 7kw charger. Thanks Jan and Phil.

We had a great week away in the Quantocks. We stayed in The Stables. A well appointed, ground floor, comfortable, generous sized holiday apartment. Lovely gardens, play equipment for younger kids, large trampoline and outdoor swimming pool. EV charging point available if you have an electric car. Good base for exploring the Quantocks and Exmoor.

The perfect party venue! Let’s start with our super host Plym. She was quick to reply to all our emails and messages. She was relaxed and friendly. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed for the weekend. The venue is amazing. We were gathering to celebrate a ‘big’ birthday, with family and friends travelling from near and far. The main house is the perfect base. Big country kitchen with warm Aga In the heart of the home. All the equipment you need to entertain. Spacious living areas, plenty of bathrooms, comfy bedrooms and a circular flow with two staircases meaning you end up back in the heart of the home. Throw into that a huge snooker table, a piano, a huge dining table and you get the perfect home for entertaining and relaxing. To extend the accommodation, we also stayed in the Coach house. Another warm, relaxed abode. More spacious bedrooms, living room and vast kitchen diner for relaxed entertaining. The grounds are delightful. Lush, green, pretty. Walled gardens, pretty flower beds, groomed lawns. Although it was too wet and cold the weekend we visited, the swimming pool in the summer would be a fantastic addition. The barn was the perfect party venue. With everything you could need. Decked out with fairy lights, candles and swaths of tulle - it was picture perfect. Thank you Plym for making my special birthday weekend truly amazing. We so hope to be back, year on year!

We booked a week at The Old Rectory in June for our wedding and had a great time. The owners Tony and Plym were welcoming, helpful and laid back. The wedding day was great and Plym was at hand to help out with any issues. Our 130 guests loved being in the old rectory to hide from the rain during the reception. After the meal in the vintage marquee on the front lawn we moved over to the barn/hall for the music. Plym helped arrange some staff to help keep the drinks flowing and cook some nibbles later in the night. As the party continued, the older generation went back into the old rectory for a cup of tea and a sing song of their own. We spent the Sunday by the pool with a barbecue. The patio area was a great place to eat and relax long into the evening beside the fire pit. All of our guests were very impressed by the venue.

Wow! wow! and a massive wow again! Just attended a wedding here, guests made full use of the stunning main house, the coach house, the barn, the swimming pool, the cottage. There was space for a huge marquee in the grounds, there was camping and even a tree-house! Anyone looking for a beautiful big wedding venue in idyllic surroundings quite honestly look no further!
